Emperor Obama I
Emperor Obama I will announce his executive immigration order tomorrow night. To celebrate America’s descent into autocracy, I have commissioned a sculpture to be placed in the well of the Senate. It will serve as a stern reminder that the legislative branch is no longer relevant.
According to CNN, the announcement will be followed by a Friday celebration in Las Vegas. Might I recommend Caesar’s Palace?

He did fiddle while Kurdistan burned.
Is that a “Dreamer” cherub?
EDIT: What was I thinking? It’s an anchor baby. Nice touch.
Is that little guy Biden? He’s about the right age.
One inaccuracy with the statue: It shows the emperor wearing clothes.
And people thought the beige suit he wore last summer was bad.
At the emperor’s feet you see his faithful dog, McConnell.
Remember Obama starting his presidency by telling people not to go to Las Vegas?
I do.
Caesar is pleased by your work:

It’s Chris Matthews, sending a thrill up the Emperor’s leg.
Wow. Obama truly is beyond shame now, isn’t he?
At least Augustus was competent.
Hey! Let’s be civil here. Julius Caesar had tact and aplomb and probably didn’t intend to bring down the Republic so much as defend his rights as a free Roman and the rights of his allies and soldiers in Gaul.
Obama is Sulla, stoning the envoys and marching his army into Rome because we need fundamental transformation.
If I could paste Obama’s face into this with the tools I have right now, I would. (Obviously, I believe he thinks of himself as more than a Roman emperor).
I, for one, welcome my new Kenyan overlord.
A good likeness, but it has the wrong finger extended.
Congress, even just a small, vocal clique of the incoming Senators, can kill this right now, and I keep begging influential people to write their members of congress or influential and ambitious members to encourage them to take up a useful tactic in opposition. Obama cannot legalize immigrants—only congress can make them truly legal—so members should just announce that they will work to bar future legal status to anyone who collaborates with Obama’s illegal order by accepting his documentation. The announcement would scare people about becoming documented under the illegal order and act as a poison pill in Obama’s offer. Since Obama doesn’t intend to enforce the law by deportations, anyway, an illegal alien would see little or no benefit in participating in the illegal amnesty.
If you like the plan, please, recommend it to influential people who could push the point publicly and loudly. I think that the plan would work with the support of just one prominent Senator like Ted Cruz.
I just read that the amnesty will exclude subsidies for purchases of insurance in the exchanges. Will the amnesty force illegal aliens to file taxes and buy insurance? If the amnesty doesn’t force illegal aliens to participate in the exchanges, then amnesty will plainly favor illegal aliens over legal residents and citizens, and if the amnesty does force the illegal aliens to buy insurance without subsidies, what illegal alien is going to participate? Who knows? Maybe the structure of the amnesty will be entirely self-defeating.
When asked about the potential consequences of his new policy of proscription, Sulla reiterated that there would be no “death gangs.” He further explained, “If you like your stuff, you can keep your stuff.”
As I understand it, if he’s trying to stay within the strict letter of the constitution, he has the authority to pardon them and the authority to refrain from deporting them, but he doesn’t have the authority to make them legal residents. They’ll basically be perpetual tourists, until the next president decides to deport them.
That’s if he stays within the strict letter of the constitution…
Is a pardon really useful? Since illegal residence is an ongoing criminal offense, wouldn’t he have to pardon the illegal aliens on a daily basis? Pardoning the illegal aliens for future illegal residence seems equivalent to suspending the law.
Here is why opponents of Obama’s plan need to sabotage the plan now.

As I recommended before, people need to make clear to illegal aliens that they are in fact, collaborating with an illegal order and exposing themselves to future punishment for their collaboration and subversion of the constitutional order.
It appears that some amnesty advocates are on to your dastardly plan! [from your link]:
But some advocates warned immigrants not to get their hopes up yet — especially with lawmakers threatening to thwart Obama’s plan.
One must assume that the author of this quote was referring to the illegal variant of immigrants. My wife is an immigrant and she has no need to “come out of the shadows.” Anyhow, I’m glad that advocates are advising “immigrants” to carefully consider their own interests. Last week, I reached out to our undocumented brothers and sisters, but honestly, I’m not too sure that many of them read the Ricochet member feed.
Yeah, I know that sadly, I’m kind of the voice in the wilderness. I keep posting and e-mailing people because I think that the plan would be completely effective as long as the message gets a large enough audience, the kind of audience that I don’t have. :-) The message doesn’t even need to come from someone in a position of power. It only needs to reach a lot of people and remind them of the real risks of participation in a program offering documents but no real legalization.
After reading Rep. Bob Goodlatte’s useless column in today’s Wall Street Journal, I’ve decided that the GOP is not going to do anything to stop Obama.
Indeed, the GOP leadership reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in Kramer v. Kramer, when son Billy acts out. Remember, Billy still got a taste of that ice cream.

I hope the current crop of GOPers in Congress enjoy being known as the feckless fools who did nothing to stop Obama from unraveling the country from behind his racial immunity.
No problemo:
Presumably he could pardon them for illegal entry, which would retroactively make their residence legal? I’m honestly not sure about that.
Can a President pardon non-citizens? How would that work?
Our political system is broken, perhaps irreparably.
Perhaps the law is written to be that narrow, but I suspect that it’s not. My guess would be that even if merely residing in the country without a valid visa or residence permit didn’t violate the law, every day worked without an explicit pardon would be a violation of the law. Is there a lawyer following the thread who has information on the law and an opinion?
By the way, when President Obama claims he needs to take unilateral action because of Congressional failure to act, do people remember that it was Senator Obama who in 2007 played the critical role in a 49-48 vote to insert a poison pill amendment into the bill sponsored by a bipartisan group of Senators and endorsed by George W Bush thus effectively killing it?
