Take the 5-Dimension Political Compass Quiz!
I’d wager most of us are at least aware of The World’s Smallest Political Quiz (in which my results are “90% Libertarian”, with the extra 10% coming from quibbles over definitions).
Today, my Facebook feed is full of links to “The 5-Dimension Political Quiz,” also described by some as the “World’s Strangest Political Quiz”.
Many of the folk who have posted this link on Facebook are generally being satirical about the results it spits out, but I rather think the label it gave me is pretty accurate.
It seems to take quibbles over definitions more seriously, and it also takes into account the difference between the values one believe are “good”, and one’s positions on the proper role of government.
According to the quiz, I’m a — wait for it —
“Right-Leaning Libertarian Non-Interventionist Traditionalist“.
I can find little substantive fault with that label.
Collectivism score: -33%
Authoritarianism score: -67%
Internationalism score: -33%
Tribalism score: 0%
Liberalism score: -17%
What are you? Take the quiz and find out!
Published in General
I am a right leaning anti-government interventionist nationalist traditionalist.
Try fitting that on a business card…
I wonder how it responds to the awful lot of “maybe”s I gave it. Despite that concern it seems to map pretty well, though I’d quibble with interventionist and nationalist. I’m not hot to intervene everywhere, but I’m not in principle opposed, and as for nationalism, I think there’s a significant difference between nationalism and patriotism.
Collectivism score: -33%
Authoritarianism score: -33%
Internationalism score: 17%
Tribalism score: 33%
Liberalism score: -33%
How about:
Conservative Anarchist Isolationist Cosmopolitan Traditionalist
I have to say I relish the absurdity of that label. If I didn’t, I’d chuck it all in and join the humorless “No Labels” crowd.
Thanks for the chuckle, Misthios :-)
I’m a Centrist Libertarian Isolationist Nationalist Fundamentalist. And my pirate name is Fish Butt Tobias. Mom would be so proud.
Whoops! Second time around I’m a
Conservative Anarchist Isolationist Nationalist Traditionalist
In all likelihood, I answered at most two questions differently.
It gives you a less absolutist label for that axis.
All “maybe”s gives you “Centrist Moderate”.
You are a: Right-Leaning Libertarian Isolationist Ultranationalist Fundamentalist
Collectivism score: -17%
Authoritarianism score: -67%
Internationalism score: -50%
Tribalism score: 83%
Liberalism score: -83%
I answered “maybe” on a number of questions that I considered impossible to give an absolute yes or no answer. This is like so many stupid Facebook quizzes in that I wonder who wrote the quiz and how they weighted the answers. Interesting, but still only based on someone else’s opinions.
Should say “Squishy” for that one.
Note, that label comes from your “tribalism” score. It believe it might, maybe refer to what level of community you most identify with. Are you a citizen of the world, a citizen of your nation, a citizen of your state, a citizen of your city, a citizen of a racial group, etc.?
Apparently, I’m a citizen of nowhere and nothing. I am an island. A sovereign individual.
The quiz, y’all have probably noted, does not seem to provide much insight into the methodology. One might say that it’s “for entertainment purposes only.”
So is there a way to get an “Easily amused dubious sarcastic misanthrope” score?
I think all our scores technically count toward that category.
Should say: See Rob Long
I don’t think it’s all that absurd. It seems to me that it would describe Amish culture relatively well.
I tried to imagine myself as Lizzy Warren:
You are a: Communist Authoritarian World-Federalist Bleeding-Heart Libertine
Collectivism score: 100%
Authoritarianism score: 67%
Internationalism score: 100%
Tribalism score: -100%
Liberalism score: 100%
I am easily amused.
So, I guess that means she sees absolutely everybody as a member of her tribe?
I wonder if the leadership of the Cherokee and Delaware nations would agree…
I pretended I was Rob Long and selected “maybe” for every question:
You are a: Centrist Moderate
Collectivism score: 0%
Authoritarianism score: 0%
Internationalism score: 0%
Tribalism score: 0%
Liberalism score: 0%
Conservative Anti-Government Interventionist Nationalist Reactionary
Like whoa.
Right-Leaning Multilateralist Traditionalist
This is what I get if I put some maybes in there.
The correct answer to most of these was “it depends.” I answered ‘maybe’ a whole lot and should have done so more. When my answer depends on my interpretation of one word in the statement, I have little confidence in the result.
That said, I can’t argue with the summary too much, but zero for internationalism seems off.
Left-Leaning Libertarian Isolationist Nationalist Fundamentalist
Collectivism score: 17%
Authoritarianism score: -50%
Internationalism score: -67%
Tribalism score: 17%
Liberalism score: -83%
I wanted to see what would happen if I forced myself not to include any maybes. The results surprised me:
You are a: Conservative Libertarian Interventionist Moderate
Collectivism score: -67%
Authoritarianism score: -67%
Internationalism score: 33%
Tribalism score: 0%
Liberalism score: 0%
(The fact that they lump euthanasia, abortion, and suicide into a single question skews the results, methinks.)
You are a: Conservative Anarchist Non-Interventionist Nationalist Liberal
Collectivism score: -67%
Authoritarianism score: -100%
Internationalism score: -17%
Tribalism score: 17%
Liberalism score: 17%
A tribalism score of 17% makes me a Nationalist?
“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”
Communist Authoritarian Bleeding-Heart Progressive
What would Barry say.
Laugh of the day!
So, he has no opinion on foreign policy?
Sounds legit…
I put him down as an isolationist in military terms but who likes international bodies and organizations, which I think is accurate enough.
I took the maybes out.
Right-Leaning Libertarian Non-Interventionist Nativist Reactionary
Collectivism score: -33%
Authoritarianism score: -67%
Internationalism score: -33%
Tribalism score: 67%
Liberalism score: -67%
So, like, you want the military to attack the rest of the world without any government oversight?
So, sorta like Julius Caesar before he crossed the Rubicon?
;-)
Yeah it’s fun to play with. I’m guessing when you got rid of your maybes, you took away government power, decided to intervene in foreign affairs a bit more, and really fell down hard on the traditional family!
Thanks for the link.
Yeah, I like my government small, except when it comes to killing foreigners. Really makes no sense, does it?
