Ricochet Meet-Up in Round Rock, TX: Klein aber Fein
Ricochet members TG, JeffP and I met at the Salt Lick BBQ and the went to the Round Rock Express’s home game against the New Orleans Zephyrs. We had a terrific time, and TG deserves some kind of Ricochet Appreciation Medal for driving six hours to be here:
JeffP and I it turns out know some of the same people in Austin and share an appreciation of the great William Shatner. And we quite look forward to the next Texas Ricochet Meet-up.

Now, which is which? Are you the Jungen with the goatee? Or the fellow with the baseball cap?
The Salt Lick is exceptional, there is no question on that score. You will not find its like in the other 49, however have you ever been lucky enough to try Franklin?
I spent five hours at that tailgate for some of their brisket a few weeks ago, but it was worth it. Austin is an insane asylum, but there is definitely some good barbeque there.
If you have the stamina it is without question worth your time.
From left to right in descending order of height: JeffP, TG and myself.
Roberto- yes, I have heard the legends of Franklin’s barbecue but have not yet been. We go to Smokey Moe’s, Rudy’s and The County Line occasionally.
With a name like “Salt Lick BBQ”, it has to be good. Can ya e-mail me some? Hehe . . .
You never said who won the ball game!
Salt Lick is AMAZING! Sister S lives in Austin (and, sadly, is a loony lib). We had the rehearsal dinner for her wedding there back in December. Bestest brisket in the universe, IMHO.
Ausgezeichnet, y’all!
Stad- well, lamentably enough, New Orleans got out a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. The final score was 5-1. Round Rock is doing better today, up 8-4 in the bottom of the 4th (CST=2:30PM).
It looks as if they are playing again today and it’s 8-4 the other direction.
Quite. And thanks for mistaking me for a “Junge”. I’m 45.
Aw, shucks. You want the home team to win at a meetup!
It’s all relative, so you are still a young un to me, but I had always estimated your age higher based on your posts. You have an air of authority.
Been to both places. Had a great time.
If I’m the “jinx” on the Express, then I suppose I’ll need to make a point of never again attending one of their games. I’m glad they had a better day yesterday than on Saturday!
