What the mainstream media once considered semi-racist conspiracy theories of the tinfoil hat crowd is re-emerging as a major story in Washington. The news cycle is moving quickly, but here are three powerful videos that will get you up to speed.
Early this morning, Joe Scarborough exploded at panelist Donnie Deutsch for warning the GOP off the Benghazi story. (Skip ahead to 7:00 for the good stuff.)
A few hours later, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) grilled retired Air Force Brigadier General Robert Lovell, who served as Deputy Director for Intelligence and Knowledge Development Directorate for AFRICOM at the time of the attack. Towards the end, a choked-up Lovell states, “We obviously did not respond in time to get there.” “Could we have?” asks Chaffetz. “We may have been able to, but we’ll never know.”
On the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue, an unsteady Jay Carney was peppered with questions from several networks, but saved most of his sneering contempt for Fox News’ Ed Henry.

At the time this was happening, I was aghast that the Obama administration were basically saying the blame for the attack could be placed on the video. They basically were saying that when someone criticizes a religion, and there’s a violent response, the fault lies with the person who spoke their mind. That was disgraceful enough. Then I found out they just made up the demonstration against the video. That really didn’t bother me as much as the original premise that the video could have been at fault.
The thing that has bothered me about this the most since the beginning is the idea that our military didn’t do absolutely everything they could to rescue these people. General Lowell has confirmed my worst fears.
Our people deserve to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the people in Washington have their backs. What a travesty! I’d be furious but long ago I accepted the fact that there is no honor in this administration…so I am just sad.
So, the White House narrative seems to be that it’s the CIA’s fault or it’s the State Department’s fault. And don’t you dare bring this up in 2016.

Rep. Chaffetz has it. The email and the cover up were additional crimes after the fact of the worst crime of all, not even trying to save Americans in harms way. Anyone, just from the description of events that night, could have surmised that this was not a protest but an organized terror attack. You didn’t need CIA or anyone else to make that judgement.
The choice not to even try to save the people was the first and most evil part of the political cover up. Carney’s latest lie is just today’s additional insult to injury. Joe Scarborough finally has the right attitude which is “Don’t give me anymore BS you phony SOB!”

Chaffetz has been on top of the Benghazi cover-up since day one and I applaud him for it. Obama and Clinton let those men die simply to protect the fallacy that Al-Qaeda was weakened and “on the run”.
I hope men like General Lovell and other military leaders that could have deployed forces to help that evening realize what a huge moral mistake it was to stand down. They left those people to die. Whatever happened to “No man left behind”?
At the time this was new, I didn’t understand it well enough to know the military should have gone in sooner. Now that I understand it I’m angry about it.
Please remember that scene in A Clear and Present Danger, when Jack Ryan is on a computer in one room trying to download the proof while the White House schmuck is in the other room furiously typing to erase it all just ahead of him. I can’t get this image out of my head as I think about Benghazi. Seems so similar – White House screwed up, and they were then prepared to sacrifice men in the field to cover the President’s involvement (although in this case it might be lack of involvement – either way the military were expendable…)
I have kept my icon as the names of the dead in Bengahzi, to keep their memory alive hopefully until justice is done here. I get a glimmer of hope every time the story comes up again. (I guess the people who have racist basketball team owner icons can now sleep easy – the world is safe, we got him!)

I’m not as familiar with Rep. Chaffetz as I probably should be but the man earned his pay today. Bravo! After all the inside-the-beltway nonsense about talking points and PR strategizing, it’s heartening to see someone with some influence still remembers the real crime here. Unlike many scandals, in this case the coverup is not worse than the crime. The crime is an administration that dithers about showing “deference to the desires of the Libyan people” while there are Americans dying on the ground. I can’t understand why careers haven’t been destroyed over this.
Sometimes the language (particularly in but not limited to the reader comments) gets, er, “salty,” but the analyses that Ace of Spades HQ has been posting about all this are pretty solid and certainly worthwhile.

Morning Joe looks like Pyjama Boy
One of the many lies and obfuscations of this event is ‘it was determined that the military could not get there in time’. Determined by who? Determined when? Determined from where? There is a range of assets that can be brought to bear on a situation like this. An unarmed Predator was dispatched to provide the live feed (from where? how long did that take? were there any others that could have been armed while the 1st one continued the feed?). 2 years have gone by – have the transcripts of the CIA officers on the roof been provided yet? I believe it is still fact that they were ‘lasing’ their attackers. Why would they do this? Does their communications transcript offer an explanation? Did the military need a formal request from State Dept to intervene, to provide ETA for rescue or fire support?
I concur with Bruce above – this is like the scene from Clear & Present Danger and they hung up the phone on those guys mid fire-fight.

It left when the flags got more interested in politics than the men they “led”. IMO the REAL scandal here is the total lack of flag resignations. Even today that mope Lovell couldn’t speak out but mumbled when the tough questions came. Shame on him! Shame of all the flags! ?Why should anyone follow those mopes anywhere. I have no expectations that this administration would do the right thing – ever. But the flags!
Yesterday, I read somewhere “they [the Obama Administration] can’t delete emails.” Putting aside use of non-official email accounts, why should we assume this new email (or emails) obtained via a FOI lawsuit is anything more than a bone thrown to give a false impression of full disclosure? Why would they not have released this new email initially, and then suddenly released it now? Did FOI lawsuit really change their obligation to disclose?
I’m sure it’s a commonplace, but Carney’s name is fitting.
I like Charles Krauthammer’s point that this is analogous to the Watergate tapes. Watergate had died down until the tapes were discovered. That’s what’s happened here. But terrible as the cover up is, the neglect of the original situation is worse.
The most effective part of the three clips is the General’s response to Chaffetz’ questions. He was clearly fighting back tears and I wanted to cry with him. Maybe they wouldn’t have been able to save those men, but it is criminal that they didn’t use all the might of the United States that could have been brought to the situation to try. Those men battled for hours with great courage. They deserved to have a helicopter swoop in to save them if that was even remotely possible. What I want to know is who gave the order to stand down? That had to be either the Commander in Chief of the Secretary of State.
Lovell’s testimony that maybe we could have gotten there in time to save lives but now we will never know is powerful. As I recall the White House position has been that there was no use discussing why they never sent help because it couldn’t have gotten there in time anyway. That is a ridiculous argument of course because when the attack is going on you don’t know how long it will last, your only choice is how fast you respond. Obama’s main concern was how fast he could get to that Las Vegas fundraiser…..
Again, I need to ask, why are there not protests, if not riots in the streets over this (as well as over Obamacare)? The MSM may be a Praetorian Guard for Obama, but I know about it, and a lot of others use the Internet, so why isn’t this registering beyond the usual pockets of center-right outrage? How does anyone move the meter on more nuanced issues if Benghazi (and Obamacare) doesn’t?

Hello All; This is a Tragic Friday!
This may be the most important email ever released from the Executive Branch. Also, I am deeply sad at what our Country has become. It is 100% clear to me; based on the email and testimony Thursday morning, that President Obama murdered the Benghazi Embassy Staff. He did this only for political gain, during a very close Presidential Election. The fact Hilary was in charge, and the Big. General did not intercede; is also just as troubling. They knew from live feeds that the Embassy was under attack; and watched our Embassy Staff die. Further; it is Criminal not to provide documents requested under Congressional order. Wake-up people we have a big problem here; if President Obama doesn’t take personal responsibility and step down; all hell is going to break loose. I am for the first time disgusted to call myself and American; or support this Government in any way. Great job Holder and Cummins you protected a murder! God Bless Issa for staying on this issue!

That frat boys like Tommy Vietor (and dozens like him) are elevated to such positions tells you all you need to know about this administration’s feelings on national security.
Our country is being run by idiot frat boys and the armchair socialists from the faculty lounge. No wonder we’re in trouble.
The sad part is, so much of what’s coming out now was pretty obvious on 9/12/12. I remember watching this attack unfold and commenting to a friend at the time that there was no way this was a demonstration that got out of control. There was no way this had anything to do with a YouTube video.
That excuse propagated by the White House resulted in a man being thrown in prison for the sin of creating an anti-Muslim video. That he was made this administration’s scapegoat should be scandal enough. But they pile on lie after lie, until we have Vietor perhaps accidentally acknowledging that Obama pretty much didn’t care what was happening in Libya, and went to bed.

Anyone paying attention in 08 knew this is what we were getting. Not in detail, but in broad strokes. It’s not like Obama camouflaged his intentions.

My understanding is that this email was part of a State Department (as opposed to White House) response to a FOIA lawsuit. The WH had successfully hidden it. The State Department screwed up and let it out. My guess is that current the WH insiders are furious that the State Department’s was incompetent (no surprise) at stone-walling.
Dad of Four, so basically, a screwup in coverup is all that separates us from an abyss I don’t even want to contemplate. How many concealments and deletions weren’t flubbed?
