Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Hamas Honcho: Palestinian Statehood Bid a “Scam”

You’ll recall that Hamas joined forces with its political enemy the Palestinian Authority in May, although they have yet to form a government. Word was that the stumbling block was the PA’s insistence on retaining Salam Fayyad as prime minister, a choice Hamas flatly rejects. But that’s the least of it.

Mahmoud al-Zahar, a prominent Hamas figure in Gaza, has publicly denounced the PA’s plan to declare statehood at the UN, together with its implied acceptance of the right of Israel to continue to exist beside it:

Just nonsense….a political scam…We are not going to recognize Israel. That is very simple. And we are not going to accept Israel as the owner of one square centimeter because it is a fabricated state.

As I’ve said many times before, I never feel more secure than when our enemies speak the absolute truth about their beliefs. Keep talking, Mahmoud. Not enough people are listening.

Hi Judith, Not quite on point but I thought you’d be interested in the story of Senator David Norris, hyper-liberal and scourge of Israel, particularly fond of IDF/Nazi and Gaza/Warsaw comparisons, who has been leading the polls for the forthcoming Irish presidential election (the post is largely ceremonial) but whose campaign is in disarray after it emerged that some years ago he used official notepaper to write to an Israeli Court seeking clemency for his Israeli partner who had pleaded guilty to the statutory rape (at least that’s what we call it) of a 15-year-old Palestinian boy.He even described himself as a “supporter of Israel”! The conspiracy theorists are saying the Israeli embassy leaked the letter. The schadenfreude is delicious!

Better the thug (and he does look like one), who will tell you to your face he wants you to cease to exist than false friends who will sell you to moment they think it’s in their interest.
