The Wages of Cultural Illiteracy, or, The Obama Voter Speaks
Want to know what a dying republic sounds like? These are actual posts from Twitter:
“If obama don’t get re-elected & romney wins .. on life every white person getting pistol whipped and i’m startin a riot.”
“If Obama don’t win lets start a riot so Romney know what he’s getting himself into.”
“You know you ain’t [expletive] if you gotta “MAKE” [expletive] vote for ROMNEY! …. Mannnn Obama better get back in office. Or BLACK FOLKS will riot.”
“If Mitt Romney wins the election I think its our duties as Black folks to riot and [expletive] [expletive] up.”
“I Heard Mitt Romney, Tryna Take Away Food Stamps , If He Do . “IMA START A RIOT , IMA START A RIOT.”
“I swear if Mitt Romney becomes president, I’m gonna be the one to assassinate his [expletive].”
“If Mitt Romney win imma assassinate him.”
It’s time for the progressive professoriate, the media elite, and the liberal bed wetters to all stand up and take a bow. In Greece, the public sector workers protest when the state runs out of other people’s money to give them. But in the US, where utopians have for decades planted the seeds of relativism and dependence, a bumper crop of semi-literate delinquents now threatens riots and assassination if their sugar daddy doesn’t win in November. The children and grandchildren of the Great Society have come of age, many of them the product of government schools, from which they graduated blissfully unaware of their national heritage, uncaringly and stupendously ignorant of the sacrifices that generations have made on their behalf, and bereft of the meaning of liberty itself.
Marinated in the sauce of relativism, where concepts like good and evil are outdated notions of an irrelevant past, these reprobates have taken their lessons to heart. If the government can rob one group of their property and freedom, then why can’t they exercise that power themselves? Why wait for a new tax code when you can freelance? If goons from the New Black Panther Party can intimidate voters without prosecution from the Attorney General, why can’t others riot or murder if things don’t go their way?
A doctor of national health performing a check-up on America, upon seeing this rot, would recommend hospice. But I wonder, where are the media reports on this? If a Tea Party member threatened violence, you can bet a bottle of your favorite beverage that ol’ Tingles Matthews at MSNBC would be on the story like Joe Biden at a teeth whitening. And what exactly is our post-racial President doing to discourage this nonsense? Where are his calls for more civility? Where are the professional tut-tutters, tut-tutting these calls to violence? Why isn’t Nancy Pelosi tearing up again and reminiscing about the wages of intolerance as she did when Americans peacefully protested the passage of Obamacare? How quickly the rules change!
I don’t think this is going to end well for the parasitic class. It’s one thing (however appalling) to gleefully live off the confiscated property of others. It’s quite another to physically threaten them if they decide to vote for someone who doesn’t see the job description of Robin Hood among the Constitution’s enumerated powers. Our freedom was won by resistance to all manner of tyranny, and it will win out against their petty threats too. From kings to dictators, from Yorktown to Normandy, Americans have beaten the odds too many times to see their liberty and families threatened by imbecilic little hoodlums with their pants falling off.

Start a riot? That’s too much like work. Won’t happen.
And a reason we practice with them!
Great post. Hope someone is checking out the sources of those Tweets. They need to be prosecuted.
It isn’t a racial protest that I fear after the election. There might be some of it, but not sure how wide spread. What I really fear is an armed OWS riot that could instigate the racial riot–the terminal takers never have skin in the game but are willing to create chaos for their own purposes. Chicago could be a problem. Yet, I have hope that this will not happen, that somehow we can transition out of the last four miserable years on to something better.
Besides, what they should really fear is if Obama gets re-elected, I might take to the streets myself!
And will promptly disarm those looking to protect their persons and property. The vast bulk of the MSM coverage will be earnest hand-wringing about the spectre of vigilantism, and the necessity of passively sitting by while the mob robs and kills, until the proper state authorities – led by social workers and community activists – turn up to … negotiate.
That’s the kind of thing that make people libertarians. Why would you want to be governed by the choice of people like that?
Although the prospect of riots if Romney wins is quite bad in itself, my concern is more with the fact that they may be used as part of a strategy by the Democratic party (or parts of it) to “reclaim” what they have lost. In Spain the Communist party said the day after the election last year that they will win in the street what they lost in the election, and last month the head of the socialist party pretty much called for people to overthrow the government by force. And some people are at it as we speak. So the question is how bad has the Democratic party gone to the left and who is going to be calling the shots and inciting their shock troops (inner-city scum, Black Panthers, OWS, etc). I would like to think that the US is not yet there but after 4 years of Obama and friends, I cannot be sure. Maybe I’ve see too many movies. What do you think?
now you know why democracy doesn’t seem to find fertile ground in west africa.
If some one dug up some of David Duke types tweets and claimed they were anything other than the pathetic ramblings of a lunatic fringe I would have questions about the character of the person writing. Your post may be revealing, but I am not sure of what.
I’m going to buck the trend here. If Obama loses there’ll be great upset, many people will be emotionally devastated but there will not be riots or violence. Maybe in one or two places, and the media will make it out to be a big thing. But widespread violence and riots? No.
The original story was Robin took from king’s men [government] and gave it to “the poor.” He didn’t take from “the rich.”
I went with the popular interpretation, but I appreciate your point.
Did someone say Robin Hood? If Romney wins, I hope the first words out of his mouth are, “Oo de lally!”
And yes, it’s sad that I only know the story from a Disney cartoon. Adding the original to my Kindle library now.
Do poor folk still watch Disney movies? Those always made mobs seem lowly, detestable things, as I recall. ·7 hours ago
The Ridley Scott Robin Hood was excellent in my view. I don’t imagine it was written with small government principles in mind but it certainly preaches them. Even when liberals create an epic story with liberty at it’s heart they produce something conservative in nature.
I agree. As long as Romney has a decisive victory. If it’s a nail-biter then I think the likelihood of riots increases dramatically as liberals will blame voter fraud for their loss.

If I remember correctly, it was the law abiding citizen in New Orleans who was disarmed in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
The only problem is that this particular lunatic fringe has already shown itself quite capable of flash mobs ransacking businesses, of beating strangers for no particular reason, and of tearing up the place when their favorite sports team wins a championship. The past is prelude…
If there is rioting the reaction of the MSM and other progressives will be instructive. My guess is that, at best, they will “understand the rage.” At worst they will feed the fires, justifying the rioters by claiming that Obama’s defeat proves that America is a racist society.
Your average Twitter post has about 10 monkey minutes of intellectual content in it (on the theory that a million monkeys typing for a million years would eventually stumble onto the Gettysburg Address). Best to just ignore it and move on.

Exactly. It’ll be Chicago style “Wildings” nationally.
Great Post.
Just one quibble.
I question treating “moral relativism” as a leftist dogma. In reality, it seems to be a pretextual tactic, rather than a sincerely held/believed dogma/theory/etc.
The left does believe in absolutes. The Klan or Eric Rudolph would never be the beneficiary of a “one man’s terrorist…” argument from the left. It is precisely because the left implicitly knows that it is absolutely wrong in many other situations that they use moral relativism as a ploy to avoid having to defend their positions.
Marinated in the sauce of relativism, where concepts like good and evil are outdated notions of an irrelevant past, these reprobates have taken their lessons to heart.
Another “Janus Effect” for liberals. If Obama loses, it will be voter fraud. But if you want photo voter ID to prevent fraud, it’s unnecessary since voter fraud is practically non-existent.

Now THAT is an interesting take on the issue of relativism, hypocrisy, and the shifting foundations of leftist dogma. Good food for thought. Thank you!
Dave, I get the feeling we are in for social unrest regardless of who makes it past the finish line. There are people who intend to riot if Romney wins, and people who intend to riot if Obama wins. Nothing we can do about that.
Thanks for reminding me, I need to pick up more ammo.
Dave,
Are you scheduled to make a delivery in Los Angeles late election night?
Interestingly enough I have a few liberal acquaintances (real anti-gun types) mention that they sort of expect violence if their guy does not win. They have joked that if things get really bad they may come visit for a while. It seems that while they don’t like me owning weapons, and actively campaign against them, they feel I have some sort of moral obligation to use these evil weapons to defend them. Go figure.

Not unless I’m heavily armed.
Bravo, Dave. Another superb essay.
You have to wonder; other than Detroit, will anything be lost? And, if that does happen, has anything been lost? ·10 hours ago
Detroit was once a rich city. Although much has been lost, there is still beautiful architecture in Detroit. We don’t need to lose what is left.
Dave- Lets hope the police in these urban districts call and get reinforcements (National Guard) in time to mitigate any looting/vandalizing/rioting. And they should be on the alert the evening of November 6th.
Sorry, but a pet peeve of Mine is Robin Hood.
The original story was Robin took from king’s men [government] and gave it to “the poor.” He didn’t take from “the rich.”

Dave. Those tweeters are not expressing violence from any fault of their own. They are victims of systemic racism. Didn’t you know that?
I am reminded of Al Sharpton when the reporter confronted him with the fact that people walking out of his church called (the reporter) “white satan.” Sharpton replied “maybe there is a little bit of the white satan in you, maybe you need to examine yourself.” (my paraphrase)
This doesn’t just apply to disgruntled blacks in the inner city (or anywhere), but to the OWS folks and anyone else … this is what happens when you raise generations of coddled children, never holding them accountable for their own actions and always allowing an outlet of blame.
