The ‘Maryland Man’ of Boulder Colorado

If you haven’t heard by now, I’m writing the definitive media account of the incident involving a BIPOC street performer in the People’s Republic of Boulder, Colorado. Boulder is a well-to-do place that I have some connection to. Pearl Street is a place I used to walk up and down every so often, especially when visiting my cousin. My Korean War vet uncle-in-law was so impolite to the Boulder folks as to repeatedly wear an American flag hat. This just got him dirty looks. Not very social of him. So here it goes:

A wholesome Maryland Father Colorado Native Father has accomplished a courageous act of civil disobedience that resists the colonization by Nazis who perpetuate oppression on people of color in an illegal Apartheid State. #SocialJustice. In front of the Pride-Progressive flag, which is flown proudly and ubiquitously in the fortress of Boulder, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian-American, protested strongly by shouting his truth. The Nazis (who were likely Jew sympathizers) had repeatedly invaded the public space, degrading it to an unsafe condition for those who would be triggered by grotesque displays in favor of genocide. The resourceful Mohamed overcame right-wing hypocrisy on the Second Amendment. Mohamed was discriminated against in not being allowed to obtain firearms due to profiling his legal status. Instead, he creatively utilized everyday items to conduct an effective protest of civil disobedience. He has since been unjustly locked up, like MLK in Selma. If he can be locked up, then any of us can.

The Trump administration is clearly abusing its power in weaponizing the FBI and DOJ against the Native Colorado Father. Local Boulder police chief has issued a statement that the incident is being investigated, and no motives have been identified. Trump minions in the DOJ have made outlandish claims of terrorism that stoke xenophobia, Islamophobia, and hate. Worse yet, Trump officials might further their cruel family separation policy in a possible unconstitutional prosecution of Mr. Mohamed, simply for exercising his free speech civil rights. The Colorado Father has a daughter who just graduated from high school. He lovingly delayed his protest until after her graduation so that he could attend, because he knew the discrimination that would befall him for openly resisting the systemically racist oppression structure.

Disinformation has been spreading that Mr. Mohamed was somehow an aggressor against people who simply wanted hostages released by Hamas. Hamas invited these individuals as guests. But regrettably, deepfakes of Hamas and Palestinians doing something in the occupied lands have tarnished this hospitality. These October 7 deepfakes have since been debunked by numerous fact-checkers; the Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed them not credible. Further misinformation about a holocaust survivor being among the Nazis has been spread in order to deflect from the violent speech committed by the rogue white Nazi group. We should remember that this type of hate speech is not free speech, and if we had a functioning democracy, this type of misinformation would be sanitized in the interest of public safety.

Rogue media channels (bankrolled by Russia) have claimed that the Colorado Father was actually illegally in the country on an expired, non-immigrant visa and may have lied on the paperwork. As a result, he shouldn’t be in the country. It should be noted, however, that he is on stolen land of a white supremacist movement that has sinned incessantly since 1619, which voids so-called immigration authority by a Fascist government. No person is illegal, including Mr Mohamed Soliman. He should get the full support of the ACLU working in combo with CAIR to immediately file a lawsuit to block any abusive actions by the Trump administration. Instead, Mr Mohamed Soliman has a legal case against the authorities for police brutality. Did you see his bandaged ear and damaged face? Even in post-George Floyd America, we have NOT adequately done the work to achieve racial equity. One more reason to double down on DEI funding. The arc of Justice is long, but it bends toward Equity and Anti-Racism.

But we have a hope in Colorado with zany-eyed Jena Griswold, our secretary of state. She is now running for CO State Attorney General after having been popularly reelected as secretary of state. Being anti-Trump is an important feature of her race to be the state’s head of law enforcement. Boulder could be a sanctuary city in a sanctuary state under Griswold’s visionary leadership. She proved herself by banning Trump from the ballot to ensure election integrity. Perhaps as AG she should cut off state law enforcement cooperation from the depravities of an FBI hijacked by Trump, thereby protecting Native Coloradans like Mohamed Sabry Soliman. Place a black square as your social media profile (or of a flaming Molotov cocktail) and fight for social change together by supporting a minority Colorado Native Father. The GoFundMe is linked below. And donate to Act Blue.

Okay, it’s ready for print, I think. Maybe one last go through. So do I get the WaPo columnist job yet?

You didn’t mention that the Republicans will be pouncing. No WaPo writer would have missed the opportunity to denounce Republicans pouncing. You probably also should point out that not only former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe but also the esteemed Boulder Chief of Police Stephen Redfearn have stated that it is far too early to establish a motive for the attack. Of course, the FBI needs to rely on the expertise of the local police force.

Yes, you are absolutely  right. “Republicans Pounce” is essential. It crossed my mind, yet forgot to include it.

I’m really going to get beaten up in the comments on this one if I hope to cover every cliche and trope – and missed.

    Maybe insert something like:

Extreme Right-Wingers exploit a tragic accident to promote divisive partisanship so that Republicans can pounce on pushing anti-immigration policies. And we are a nation of immigrants under a more inclusive idea of God.

    C. S. Lewis adamantly refused to followup on his success with the Screwtape Letters, in which he writes at length in the voice of a demon of Hell, on the grounds that he found the experience very uncomfortable. It was a sort of, if you keep crossing you eyes like that they might get stuck that way moment. Just sayin’.

Eb Snider: Mohamed Sabry Soliman an Egyptian-American

Nope. He’s just Egyptian.  an Egyptian who is here illegally on an expired visa.

Interestingly I just got back from Egypt and our several guides were lamenting how hard it is to get a tourist visa to the US. I was puzzled by this. I mean tourists? what’s the issue?

When I got home I did a little digging. Turns out something like 40% of the illegals in the US are here with expired visas.

    Now I understand.

But will he get Due Process?  Isn’t that more important that life-threatening injuries to innocent elderly Americans from a merely alleged hate crime according to criminal expert Andrew McCabe.

Does there need to be a criminal conviction for the variety of felonies involving the Molotov cocktails in order to justify deportation?  Does he get to stay for the duration of the Due Process?  Will he get government financial support and housing while he waits for a resolution of the hearings, trial and appeals?

His criminal trial for things he did while recorded on camera will be appealed on the grounds that it was not a fair trial given the publicity.  His deportation could be stayed by the right judge pending the appeal of the criminal conviction because if he is not a convicted felon, he cannot be deported under the Chris Van Hollen/Maryland Man Doctrine even if here illegally.

The circus has not yet begun.

I’d like this incident to receive more national attention and linger in the headlines with public discussion. However, I’m afraid the awful details of the case along with video evidence are too much to be adequately spun. As a result, the story will get tossed out soon aside from a handful of niche media outlets perhaps.

I did see some coverage today not using the name and simply calling him “a man” or “the suspect”. Mohamed Sabry Soliman was also referred to as an “El Paso County Colorado man” and “a white man”. So if the story can’t be twisted, then simply bury the details, deflect, and hope it all goes away might be the Left’s strategy.

At about the same time Tim Waltz gave a speech to a Democrat Party audience that “Democrats need to get meaner and more fierce” after affirming that he calls Trump a “Dictator, because that’s what he is”.  Yeah, well I think the Dems have that covered well enough. Personally I give Democrats 5 Gold Stars for the being ‘mean and fierce’ in the category of challenging Republicans, conservatives, and non-compliant people. What more can Democrats do? I guess I shouldn’t ask.

The various reports have left me confused. On the one hand, the guy has been “charged” with a federal hate crime, but OTOH other reports say no prosecution can proceed without his first having been “indicted” by a federal grand jury. And a third report said his wife and kids could be expeditedly (is that a word?) deported, maybe as soon as “tonight,” even.

What in the wide world of sports is a-goin’ on here?

The whole family overstayed their visas and are illegal aliens. I’ll leave sorting out the charged versus indicted thing to the lawyers, except to say that having been charged, he can be held and arraigned before a judge while the police and prosecutors assemble a case for the grand jury. I’m sure that’s the way Castle explained it.

If he gets a long prison sentence ,will some judge order that the family deportations be stayed (with full benefits and financial support) for the duration of the sentence so they make make regular prison visits.

I saw a story (maybe apocryphal) that a Palestinian immigrant family were seen dancing and celebrating on an apartment building rooftop while the twin towers were still burning. Neighbors called the cops. The NYPD arrested them, turned them over to ICE and they were deported the same day at a time when all of NYC was still enraged.  Should be the norm.

    Probably INS, then.

Can’t imagine there were any lawyers who would have rushed to defend them.  Nor any judge anxious to hear the case.

New York judicial partisanship is not always bad. After the Dodgers moved to LA they hired a lawyer to force the owner of a bar in Bay Ridge named the Brooklyn Dodger to change the name because the club owned the name. The judge cut them off, said they did not if they want to be in NY nor called the “Brooklyn Dodgers” they don’t get to come back and harass an old established business and tossed the case.  Go back to LA!  Well done, your honor.

I wouldn’t say that was partisanship. The Dodgers abandoned the designation “Brooklyn Dodgers.” Since they no longer claimed it, they lost their standing to fuss about it. “Back to the Land of Fruits and Nuts and take your butt hurt with you” seems to be a sound legal judgement.

I just don’t understand why deportations are so controversial. In most cases the government can say, ‘look, here are your visa papers with your signature on them and here is a calendar with today’s date. Now GTFO’.

Sure some people should be allowed to stay – except no they shouldn’t. If we get it wrong they should be allowed to come back.
