The Spanish Blackout

What did socialist countries use for indoor lighting before candles?

Electricity…

Considering that Australia’s blunder preceded Spain’s, you’d think that some notes and notice would have been taken. But no, they plow forward without considering the ramifications of their pointless dictates:

“Earth day might be a communist plot” – Walter Cronkite.

For those unaware, Australia destroyed its industrial base by building an electric grid heavily sourced from renewables, reducing its grid’s reliability. Heavy industry has now basically left Australia for less greener pastures, but with more reliable energy.

Thorium future.

This commentator simply misses the point. If you have this wonderful thorium reactor, why would you fool around with unreliable high maintenance, high-cost, low-density energy like wind farms or solar? If you look at history, there is a jump in energy density every time society switches its primary fuel.

The last 500 years of energy usage could be divided like this:

Wood 18 MJ/KG (MegaJoules per Kilogram) >> Coal is 24-35 MJ/KG, >> Crude Oil 41.868 MJ/KG > refined oil products like diesel 45.6 MJ/KG >> Uranium 80,620,000 MJ/KG…

So with each change, society gets more energy in smaller packages. The latest jump to Uranium is the largest ever. Each KG of Uranium has 2.3 million times more energy than coal.

How much energy in whale oil? I’m looking at Pritzker. Walz might be worth drilling into as well.

Seriously tho’, I think nuclear breaks the fuel-energy comparisons. I can burn wood without much infrastructure. Coal takes a little more but not much. Petroleum needs significant infrastructure, but nuclear needs so much that the cost of the plant exceeds the cost of fuel over the lifetime.

Gaia weeps at your ignorance. Does She not cry out in pain whenever Her skin is stabbed to pump oil? Does she not scream in agony when fissile materials are ripped from her body? For loving Gaia hid these far below Her surface to save us from ourselves!

For thy apostacy thou shalt be cast out of the drum circle, yea unto the outer void. And don’t try sneaking back into the community yurt either.

Your flippant quip underscores the real motivation of the Green movement. It is not motivated by science or common sense.  It is a religion, a return to paganism. Quite literally as paganism is Earth worship.

Lotus Eaters podcast had an interesting discussion on the Spanish Blackout:

Politicans believe they’re god, thats fairly harmless. Its when they believe they’re engineers, thats when the real trouble starts.

As mentioned in my original post with the talk by Jo Nova, the Australians went through this nearly a decade ago… So none of this should have been a surprise to anyone paying attention… The problem is that so few of us are actually paying attention to every little thing like this.

Surprise! Massachusetts is running in the same direction:

But unlike Spain, there is a very real danger to life and limb without energy should this kinda of disaster strike in winter..

With glaciation right around the corner, soon there will be a mandate to burn a cord of wood a week per person to stave off extinction. Germany most stunned and confused.
