Since we’re talking about Geraghty
His newsletter on Saturday morning ends with what he considers one of the most famous panels in comics history. I was happy to be reminded of it, and I think it’s worth repeating. It’s Captain America talking to Spiderman:
“Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — ‘No, YOU move.’”
Geraghty once again proves that you don’t have to agree with him all the time to find him worth reading. Additionally, I’m glad to have something worth repeating come from a medium that is usually sneered at. I think a lot of what passes for comic books is pretty awful, especially in comparison to the peak of the art form, Will Eisner. I still give copies of “A Contract with God” for Christmas and birthday presents.

How about “With great power comes great responsibility?”
True but trite…probably trite because it’s true.
And it’s just one little sentence!
Hoped someone would find it. Who are the artist and writer?
Ron Garney (artist) and J. Michael Straczynski (writer), The Amazing Spider-Man #537 (2007)
That’s why everyone should see Babylon 5.
Best sci fi show ever.
Certainly in the top 5.
Interesting that in the Captain America movie, a paraphrase of that quote was attributed to Peggy Carter by her niece at her funeral.
