I was gonna make espresso…

Gene Hackman, his wife, and his dog were found dead at his home today.

I’m invoking the 24-hour rule before forming an opinion. It could be anything from dealing with a fatal illness to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

Whatever the details, it’s sad. His work brought a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people. I meant the title of this post with a lot of love.

Ave Atque Vale to the three Hackmans.

Yeah, I know it has me wondering what happened, especially since the sheriff is saying no foul play suspected.

I saw this on the news this morning – how terribly sad. I have always enjoyed his memorable acting. Had no idea he was 95! God bless the Hackmans –

PS – Douglas – what movie was your title from?  I’m wracking my brain! Loved him in The Firm.  Just remembered ….Frankenstein! Haha!

Carbon monoxide is the most likely answer seeing the authorities said no foul play suspected.

I think Unforgiven was his best movie followed by Crimson Tide.

RIP Gene and your wife as well.

Gene Hackman donned every character like a garment and became that character. Popeye Doyle, Buck Barrow, the blind hermit … he was never the focus, the character he was portraying was.

There are a lot of actors out there who will never be that good.

If you watch Young Frankenstein, wait until the end of Hackman’s sequence. There is a quick fade to black right after he says, “I was gonna make espresso!” The reason for the fade is that the line was an ad lib and the camera crew laughed so hard they couldn’t hold it.

So many good ones, but Hoosiers and Enemy of the State (with Will Smith) were two of my favorites.

Saw him most recently in a re-rewatching of Get Shorty. Always liked him.

    RIP

I’d like to withdraw my Crimson Tide nomination. I remember the last time I seen it I turned it off because it was too woke. His acting was still top notch.

Double post isn’t my fault. Look at the screenshot. I’m in the Caribbean so blame it on island time.

The last news I heard, was that it appears suspicious.   The bodies were apparently well decomposed as there was a mention of mummification and there were pills on the floor.   Also, there were other animals in the house that were not affected.

Hmm, yes, wouldn’t be the first time a pet – or a child – ingested accessible pills.

It’s going to be severe food poisoning. Supposedly, it’s the most under publicized form of death in the United States. It gets 5000 people every year, including me, except for the death part.

Interesting. That’s better than some bizarre murder. Still sad.

Could be, but shouldn’t that be known by now?

Toxicology takes months and I have no idea if they can ferret it out food poisoning.

Apparently the wife died from Hantavirus, Gene had Alzheimer’s and likely didn’t understand what happened, then wasn’t taking his medication and had a heart attack.  The dog was in a crate following a veterinary visit and apparently starved to death because nobody was there to take care of it.

Sad situation all the way around.
