Latest of the Tidal Wave of Sanity—Justin Trudeau Resigns

First El Salvador with Bukele, then Argentina and Milei. Then the United States with Trump, and now, with Trudeau’s exit, Canada. Europe’s “far right” (usually read as “normal”) is on the ascendant.

Sanity seems to be contagious. It may or may not be enough to save civilization, but at least there is hope as the Woke Pagan Death Cult seems to be crashing upon the rocks of mankind’s basic decency and common sense. Huzzah!

The media types who chant “far right” like it was an anathema really have to get a grip, seeing as how apparently the “far left” doesn’t seem to exist to them. It gives people cause to doubt the judgement of the speaker.

Let’s just hope whoever takes over in Canada between now and the October elections isn’t a disaster.  A lame duck Trudeau might be better than some other lefty intent on mischief.

    I wonder what @misthiocracy thinks…

The big question is now that the peculiar leftist sickness in the West is receding, will there be any acquired immunity?

Every potential Liberal candidate with any chance of winning the party’s Leadership race is a personal friend of The Dauphin who supports all the same policies with zero variance in ideology.

Changing the Leader makes no difference to how the country is governed between now and the election. It also (probably) makes no difference to the outcome of the election. It only makes a difference to the timing of the election.

Namely, Jagmeet Singh has just been given an excuse to break his promise to vote no-confidence when parliament resumes.

“I only meant that I have no confidence in Trudeau. This other guy has my complete confidence.  I’ll be deposed as NDP leader after the election, and I need to keep the paycheques coming for as long as possible.”

Trudeau’s resignation means that the hopes of a spring election have been dashed.

    I hate October elections.

An October election means I won’t get a summer vacation because we’ll be campaigning all summer in preparation for an October election.

An October election means no post-election decompression period because Parliamentary work will start almost immediately after the election.

An October election is a pain in the ass for those campaigning in rural ridings because the farmers will be busy with the harvest.

An October election means knocking on doors in the cold autumn rain (or, worse, the snow!).

An October election means I’ll be on the other side of the country at Thanksgiving.

    Grumble grumble grumble…

Only Jagmeet Singh could walk into a room with Trudeau and come out with a deal where he gets nothing.

The longer the whip, the more biting the lash.

The correction the other way can be much larger if there is a delay.

Had Romney won, we would not have gotten to the best shot at destroying the Deep State in America’s history.

The delay in the elections in Canada might well mean an even-bigger mandate for Polievre.

The delayed-reaction in Europe may end up with the result being the expulsion of the Muslim hordes (for example).

Harper was wrong on this one. Jagmeet gets a six-figure salary and a multi-million-dollar pension and a chauffeured car for as long as he keeps the NDP caucus on-side.

It’s the NDP grassroots that’s gotten nothing in return.

    Maybe. Maybe not.

People really hate The Dauphin personally.

A dull, boring, wonkish, old white dude will regain the votes of Liberals who vote according to which candidate “seems like a nice enough guy”. This group is a very significant proportion of the Canuckistani electorate. They don’t vote FOR anything principled.  They vote AGAINST the unpleasantness of controversy.

Poilievre will still win, of course, but it might not be the massive blowout that it would have been with The Dauphin.

Our job will be to do everything possible to tie the new Leader to The Dauphin’s record. This shouldn’t be too difficult, as it’s highly unlikely that the Liberals will choose a Leader that isn’t already a member of Club Trudeaupia.

Since Biden was also awarding The Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Sen. Romney’s father, George, not showing up would have been in bad taste and gratuitously undignified.

So, perhaps a more informed comment would be appropriate?

Getting back to Trudeau, as I understand it, with the prorogue date and the maximum length of a Canadian Federal election, even if a vote of no confidence were secured in the Commons, the earliest Poilievre could take over is late May. Hell, Jean Chrétien held on as a lame duck for what? 18 months?

There’s a satirical twitter campaign afoot to draft Mark Garretsen as the new Liberal Party Leader.

Who the heck is Mark Garretsen?

    Exactly.

A little background: In order to help Justin Trudeau win the leadership, the party bigwigs changed the party’s constitution to eliminate the requirement that one be a Liberal Party member (or even a Canadian citizen!) to vote in the leadership election. That rule change has never been repealed.
