Saturday Night Classics: “In America” by The Charlie Daniels Band

 

Time for a little musical red meat for election week, as suggested by my brother.

This was on the radio in Oklahoma frequently during the election year of 1980. (On election night, we were at a hockey game in downtown OKC with Dad, and the entire arena stood and cheered when they announced Reagan’s victory. “In America” played over the p.a.)

Something was in the air then. Something’s in the air now.

I admit I’m late to the party, y’all. I didn’t want him to be the nominee. For a while, I didn’t think he’d win.

But I wanted him to. 

Let me join in the optimism. Take it away, Charlie:
