One If By Land…

I drink Jim Beam because it’s a cheap, serviceable bourbon and, well, I pour a pretty stiff glass most nights. I went out today and bought something better: If Trump wins, as I hope and expect, then I’ll open this and toast to the Republican victory. If he doesn’t, then the bottle will go back on the shelf until that happy day when Democrats are out of the White House.

My brother John is one of those hearty morning people. He’s a Trump enthusiast, whereas I’m merely a Trump supporter, but he’ll nonetheless turn in at his usual 8:30 or 9 Tuesday night, not knowing what, if any, decision he’ll wake up to when his freakishly wholesome habits propel him out of bed at 5 am for his single cup of coffee.

I’m the opposite: I rarely go to bed before 1 am, and Tuesday night I’ll be up as long as there’s any serious prospect of a verdict being reached before the sun rises.

In the event that Trump is credibly declared the winner tomorrow night, my brother will be greeted Wednesday morning by a photograph of my glass of bourbon raised in toast to the 47th President of the United States. If the worst happens and Harris wins, he’ll find a picture of the good stuff sitting unopened on the shelf.

Win or lose, America will survive. We remain a fundamentally conservative country, as I’ve argued many times before, and the progressive left remains tone-deaf and unable to restrain itself. In power they will bring hard times, and hard times, as they say, build strong men. Win or lose, it will be no cakewalk: Our bloated, overweening federal government is on the brink of precipitating a fiscal crisis that will bring hard times to whoever is in office. Hard times are surely coming; common sense suggests we try to fend off the worst of them.

With that in mind, I’ll be voting for Trump.

Good luck, America.

There are elephants, in the political sense.

    And then there are elephants.

In neither case do we forget.

Yes, it’s just 750ml, rather than the usual 1.75L. Even so, I won’t finish it in one night. ;)

We have a bunch of nice wine possibilities in the basement cooler, including several that go “pop” when opened.

I voted early and may do a provisional tomorrow as protection against a misplaced early vote here in Michigan.  We’re supposed to be able to check the status of our vote at the Secr of State website but it still says “No early voting information available yet.” Hmmm. They seemed to be using the usual machines. What could have happened? Am I right to be slightly skeptical? Doesn’t the computer know who voted? How do they stop duplicates? On paper only? Let’s hope so. I will report after tomorrow….

Btw, good choice HR. A fine beverage! I’m partial to an elderly Highland scotch myself!  :-)

Of course, that’s just the start of it.  Even if they confirm receiving your ballot, that doesn’t prove that your votes were counted properly.  But neither would voting in person, really.

I know everyone is focused on the presidential race, but I’m more concerned with Congress.  If Donald Trump wins but the Democrats gain the majority in the House of Representatives, they will have impeachment papers drawn up by Valentine’s Day.  On what charges, I have no idea, but it will be something.  And when that impeachment fails, they’ll do it again every year until Trump is gone or the Republicans regain the majority.

People make a lot of assumptions about computers – also people, but especially computers – that they really shouldn’t.

I think we’re going to win the popular vote, the electoral college, and both the House and Senate.

Of course, I’ve almost always been wrong. That’s probably why I drink.

Popular vote sure would be nice.  Should put an end to the “National Popular Vote Compact” nonsense.

They’d ignore the Compact in that case. The Compact is only meant to work one way.

I will be drinking something special tomorrow whether or not the orange imbecile is given a one-way ticket to irrelevance by the American public. I can rarely resist champagne, especially the good stuff. I will also have on hand:

    Hummus
    Pita bread
    Cherry tomatoes
    Homemade vegetable soup
    Sourdough loaf
    Popcorn
    Laptop computer
    Phone
    Flashlight
    Colt LE6920 M4 Carbine 5.56×45 NATO
Colt Government Model Rail Gun .45 ACP
    Glock 19 9mm Luger
    Ammunition for the above

If Trump loses, I am naturally concerned by the prospect of rioting and looting by enraged Trumpists screaming about a stolen election (v. Jan. 6, 2021), thus the firearms. Good luck, America!

2016-style inaugural riots are more likely, I think. The left has ideological cover to loot and burn. The righteous anger of the opponents of imminent fascism, and all that.

Mrs. KC and also voted early. Many precincts voting at a single location. Our IDs were scanned, so I see two options, (1) the state provided laptops haven’t had the information regarding who has voted downloaded and shared on a daily basis, and/or (2) the Democrats are holding back that information (KIP) so they have a heads-up regarding vote totals to use to their advantage.

I am so confident of a Trump win that I have asked my talented clothes-designing daughter to make me an official-looking Antifa hoodie so I can go to my office in DC over the next week or two without being mugged by rioters when I get off the Metro.  I can’t open the windows in the office building to enjoy the smoke from the fires like Ms. Walz but I can go on the roof and observe and smell the chaos and do a Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore impression.

Antifa/BLM attacking and closing federal office buildings is kinda like a dangerous bacterial infection deciding to attack tumors instead of healthy tissue.  Question:  Can federal workers do the paperwork to legalize 12 million illegal aliens in in two months while working remotely?

If DJT wins before the sun comes up tomorrow, I’ll have no trouble finding a worthy bourbon to open for the neighborhood celebration. If he loses and I conclude it was honest, I’ll go on the wagon. But what to do if there’s a steal?
