Saturday Night Radio
Tonight, from 1937, a double-header, it’s two, count ’em, TWO great radio dramas on “The Lux Radio Theatre” …

What a cute little radio you picked out! That one’s a mahogany charmer. (Or, okay, a thin veneer glued to composite wood. It looks great, does it not?)
The theater that hosts Lux Radio Theater was pretty obviously a small movie house recently, judging by the 20s framing of the posters on either corner. It must be a matinee; for centuries, “matinee” was code for “female audience”, and the photo here doesn’t dispel that impression. In this case there was a practical reason.
Most of the population was in the East, the South, and the Midwest. For a number of reasons, radio tended towards the excitement and risk of live performance. So the big west coast-originated shows went live in mid-afternoon, daylight in southern California.
We made the front page !!! Hooray !!!
Thanks, everybody.
Great, as always. I love those old time adverts and commercials. Please keep them coming.
