Foo Fight Foofaraw Fizzles

Let it be known that the musical group known as the Foo Fighters, who have made a career of fighting foo, are in a hissy fit with the Trump campaign because their song, “My Hero,” which celebrates ordinary heroes, was used as entry music when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took the stage to endorse Mr. Trump at a rally in Arizona. It’s not entirely clear if Mr. Kennedy or Mr. Trump are generators of foo, or financially support the spreading of foo throughout the land, but one could surmise that if they were, then the Foo Fighters’ song would have instantly cleansed the Trump rally stage of any offending foo. This leaves one wondering what all this foofaraw was about. The fearless fighters of foo had also previously objected to the John McCain-for-President campaign using the song many moons ago.

The fighters of foo are fighting mad and announced that any royalties from the followers of Trump or Kennedy who purchase the song will be donated to the Harris-Walz campaign. That said, the intrepid fighters of foo are also pondering possible legal action against the Trump campaign while…uh…Trump supporters pay money for their music and unwittingly support the Harris-Walz campaign…because…because…shut up, it’s the principle of the th- – …never mind. Never question the logic of the fighters of foo!

Unfortunately for the Foo Fighters, it has come to light that the Trump campaign legally purchased the rights to play the song from BMI’s Songview service, and showed The Independent news site the Songview documents confirming the campaign’s claim. The fighters of foo may want to move on, though they probably need the publicity. One might even say that the Trump campaign has been unburdened by the foo that has been, or unburdened by the has-been fighters of foo.

Maybe Grohl & Co. should start a new band: “Rage FOR The Machine.”

About 3/4 of music listening is done through streaming services.   Good luck separating those royalties out.  It is a dumb statement that is aimed at dumb fans.

The Rage Against the Machine guys have morphed into that the last few years, with calls to be vaccinated to attend their concerts and other support for Democrats.

This happens every election season.  There is always some band, singer, or songwriter who is angry that a Republican has played their song.  The artist Pink goes the furthest down this road.  She has declared that she doesn’t even want regular home listeners to listen to her music if they are pro-life.  Maybe the GOP needs to have an office that looks for music that is made by people who are not on the left, ask the creators if it’s OK for Republicans to play it at rallies, and add those songs to a database.  Then Republican politicians would have a list of songs they can play without being scolded by the creators.

Can’t be counter-culture if you shill for The Man, even if The Man is a woman. Whatever that is.

She’s a rock singer.  My wife likes her, and I even like a few of her songs.

I have an album or two. When I was getting my Plex server going again this year I noticed that her entry had changed to P!nk. Don’t know when that change happened. I stopped paying attention when she said that she didn’t like me because I don’t want babies killed.

Allegedly slept with Anthony Weiner, at least he claimed it. Still remember when Andrew Breitbart was on Red Eye after Weiner admitted the truth and they danced around her name, “Raise your glass. She sounds like a stupid girl. Wink, or rhymes with. She’s a rockstar and has her rock moves.” Her song titles or lyrics.

Randy Weivoda: This happens every election season.

It happens so frequently that ASCAP and BMI have changed their licensing agreements with venues to exclude political events and offer separate agreements to campaigns. Artists and composers are now within their rights to deny use of their songs.

You can read more from ASCAP here.

Just watched a video. Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, and Pat Benatar all did the tough broad persona better.

To paraphrase Rossini, it would be unfair to judge her talent after only having heard her once, and I have no intention of hearing her twice.

The act, I dunno.  Maybe.  But Pat Benatar is just 5′ 1″, and Joan Jett is 5′ 3″.   Pink is also 5′ 3″, but I can’t think of Benatar or Jett being some kind of towers of strength either.

    Chrissie Hynde is 5′ 8″.

Eh, they could have played Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” which, after all, was the concept Dave imitated for “My Hero,” but it’s high falutin’ orchestra music. That, at least, would have been the tone of the criticism for using Copland.

It’s kind of embarrassing when a politician uses a song that they think is a rah-rah pro-American song and it’s actually the opposite, such as Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA.

Probably even more ironic:  “(This One Goes Out To) The One I Love” for weddings.

I was going to suggest he might be public domain, but I see that won’t happen until 2060. How un-commie of him.
