Kraft durch Freude: The Original Politics of Joy
The economy is fine. You must be happy and feel the joy or you are weird or a hater. You must enjoy what the others also feel and you must do and say positive things, always together. This approach to organization and persuasion was first developed by this cheery fellow on the left named Robert Ley in 1933. “Strength Through Joy,” a mission to take the steam out of dissident sentiments through tourism and outdoor activities, was a large-scale set of projects. Perhaps the most corrupt man in Nazi Germany (pause here to reflect on the level of competition in that category), Ley made extensive use of and oversaw the abuses of slave labor. He shot himself while awaiting trial for war crimes at Nuremberg, presumably after having run out of joy.

Yeah, nothing says “joy” like blowing your brains out while awaiting trial as a war criminal.
