Note that next week’s SNC is still available.

“Oye Como Va” has never left the play rotation.

    Rock on, Carlos!

Good one, always liked Santana. Their version of Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock was one of the top live performances of all time

As I recall, they were way early on the bill on Saturday and largely unknown, at least in the East.  Sort of a coming out party just after dropping the Santana Blues Band moniker.

I catch a glimpse of Michael Shrieve and all I see is that 1969 drum solo. There’s a version of “Soul Sacrifice” from this concert. It’s different, but Shrieve’s intensity is the same. Good stuff.

Great pick.  It’s hard to go wrong with Santana.

And he’s helped some other people along the way.  As I recall reading at the time, she was 17 or 18 still and was picked from over 200 auditions, mostly familiar names.

Gregg Rollie and Neal Schon went on to form Journey.

Until they kicked Gregg to the curb and brought in Steve Perry.

For “Smooth” it’s probably a good idea to include the name of Rob Thomas as the singer.

Thomas wasn’t just the singer. He took a song by Itaal Shur, re-wrote the lyrics and melody and recorded it as a demo for Santana.  Santana liked it so much he asked Thomas to record the final version.
