Joe Biden: “Well-Meaning”?

“A sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory”

Special counsel Robert Hur recommended against criminal prosecution of Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents and information. Mr. Hur said that in court Mr. Biden “. . . would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview with him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.” Mr. Hur concluded that a jury of normal Americans would likely decline to convict that “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.”

I note that the special counsel was saying that “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory” was the image his lawyers would present in court. Not necessarily the reality. But, the special counsel proceeded to present in his report considerable evidence that the “poor memory” part of that image is probably an accurate reality. Evidence that has been commented on extensively.

But as far as I can tell, none for the “well meaning” part of the anticipated image. I posit that behind Joe Biden’s long-standing image as a kind well-meaning if occasionally misguided man is actually a Joe Biden who is fundamentally evil.

Many of us remember the decades in which then-Senator Biden was presented as “lunch bucket Joe from Scranton.” More recently the presented image has been shifted to kindly old man and occasionally “elder statesman.” But in the last several years we seem to be glimpsing more of the underlying Joe Biden behind the images.

I do not like to describe people as “evil.” I go for a long time, and try very hard, to think that when people advocate for actions or policies that are evil, or do or say things that are evil, they are simply temporarily misguided or do not fully understand what they are advocating. Just because a person on occasion promotes a particular evil act or evil policy does not mean that the person evil in essence.

On occasion over the years we have gotten snippets of evidence that something different was behind the image of friendly or kindly lunch bucket Joe: His repeated lie about how his first wife was killed, to the detriment of the other driver in the car crash or his abuse of Clarence Thomas in Senate hearings. But those glimpses were rare. So I continued to think of Joe Biden as the occasionally misguided but basically decent person (even if he was always wrong on foreign policy). As we see more of what appears to be the base Joe Biden in the last five or so years, it is harder to ascribe Joe Biden’s increasingly frequent calls for death, violence, hatred, and division as merely occasionally misguided ideas or thoughts. It seems increasingly probable that death, violence, hatred, and division represent the true Joe Biden.

The real eye opener for me (and I suspect many others) was the hate-filled, divisive red and black Philadelphia speech in September 2022. That speech caused me to go back and rethink Joe Biden’s previous actions and speech. Previous actions and speech that at the time I had thought wrong, but not indicative of a fundamental problem. But in hindsight look more like the product of a fundamentally bad character. And many of Joe Biden’s speeches since September 2022 (especially those that seem to be his words and not the words of a speechwriter) point to a fundamental problem in Joe Biden’s character. Death, violence, hate and division are constant themes.

Biden routinely demonizes about half the American public, and either demeans or expresses hatred toward people who disagree with his policies. He expresses indifference to tens of thousands of deaths due to drug trafficking that he facilitates. He seems unconcerned about deaths and abuses of people he encourages to undertake dangerous treks to enter the United States illegally. He is dismissive toward evidence of slave trafficking that comes as part of the flow of people he encourages to enter the United States illegally. He is unconcerned about violent crime committed by the millions of people he encourages to enter the United States illegally. He prioritizes the interests of people who have broken the law over people who follow the law. He doesn’t seem bothered that three substantial wars have started since he became president (Russia v. Ukraine; Iran (proxy Hamas) v. Israel; Iran (proxy Houthis) v. U.S. (proxy international commercial shipping)).

Joe Biden has declared killing (abortion) to be a top priority for reelecting a Biden administration. The Democratic party (of which he is the presumptive figurehead) has declared killing (abortion) as its top election agenda priority. [Even if you think abortion may be justified in some circumstances, it is fact that abortion is killing a living thing that has human DNA different from its mother.] I find it interesting that the Democratic party, constantly trying to claim the mantle of compassion and love, puts literal killing at the top of its priorities. But that’s a topic for a different thread.

The “well-meaning” image brought back up something a Trump-hating friend of mine said a couple of months ago. He expressed his view that Trump was an evil man while Biden was benign, if selfish and sometimes wrong. I thought he had that backwards.

The point is that Biden so favors evil that I can only conclude he is a fundamentally evil man. Any indication that Joe Biden is “well-meaning” is no more than a façade. “Elderly man with a poor memory” seems to be an accurate descriptor of reality. “Well-meaning” is not.

He’s also part of the reason why Bork has entered the lexicon as a verb.

In 2020, it was obvious that Biden was everything the decorum conservatives claimed that Trump was. It floored me that these people couldn’t bring themselves to support Trump but were okay with Biden.

I think you have described Biden very well. His words and actions speak to his intent on many occasions, and his intent in many instances was not “well-meaning.”

Indeed, the only accurate part of that description is “mean.”

Not sure I would go all the way to evil.  Stupid, greedy and a criminal for sure.  Maybe that’s close enough.  The most astonishing thing to me about this idiot is that he still keeps repeating the lies he told 40 years ago about his first wife’s death, then Beau’s death, then the civil rights crap when its nonsense. But he does not think other people have a memory.

Full Size Tabby: a Joe Biden who is fundamentally evil

The report was so devastating that had Joe Biden been just your average duplicitous and pandering politician, I might have felt a tinge of sympathy for him being portrayed as a doddering idiot in an official report.   But after hearing and seeing him in action these past few  years, I also believe that he is just an awful human being.  So I was completely unmoved by his humiliation.

Okay, you can play the Devil’s advocate (DJAG) on this one.  To you, what distinguishes Joe from being evil?   In my scoring rubric, he has crossed the line in several dimensions.

I did not include the Biden criminal and corruption activities in my charges because to me not all criminal activity is evil. To me evil is activity the direct effect of which is to hurt other people. Corruption, bribery, and many other financial crimes may hurt other people, but mostly as a side effect, and not a primary effect.

The lie about his first wife’s death is evil because it directly and as a primary effect harmed another person. The lies about Beau’s death and the house fire do not directly hurt another person (though they may indirectly hurt the people to whom he is talking by devaluing their suffering).

I first formed my opinion of Biden from his conduct during the Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork confirmation hearings; he is not a person of character. I believe it was Senator Dick Cheney at that time who accurately described him as, “A back-stabbing SOB.”

Since that time, Joe has more than lived up to Dick’s assessment.

With some reservations due to the teachings of my Church, in which we are taught to rarely if ever call another person evil, I am compelled to make these observations.

A man who would treat Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the greatest jurists to ever serve on the Supreme Court, as if he were something stuck to the sole of his shoe is: Evil.

A man would invite himself into his daughter’s shower — it is almost impossible to type those words as it is incomprehensible to any decent person — is: Evil.

A man who would lie about the circumstances of his son’s death for pure political gain is: Evil.

A person who, as it now stands, sold out his own Nation for sums now estimated to be in the range of at least 30 Million dollars while occupying positions of the highest trust and honor to which one can be elected/appointed, thus violating that highest trust is: Evil.

A person who would lie repeatedly about matters which were easily refuted by the facts and used those lies– most of which were told long ago well before he and his enablers could blame his daily incresing dementia — to gain the trust of the American voter is: well, here I guess I have to check myself as that category is unfortunately occupied by a huge percentage of the “public” “servants” now “serving” We the People.

Not to get off the subject of the post, but I am currently working on a post on the role of “Dr” Jill in all of this and if extreme greed and pure venality can ever reach the level of evil, she would certainly qualify.

His enablers would undoubtedly answer these charges with the defense that he is, just as the Special Counsel’s report said, just a kindly old gentleman with a bad memory. While only his most rabid -I use that word advisedly- devotees would agree with that statement. That said, if we even accepted that as true, I have a serious problem with someone, whether non compos mentis or not, whose actions may very will get my country and its citizens invaded, attacked, bombed, tortured, raped, murdered, and the list of horrors goes on, as well as his coterie of Obamatons and enablers, and that prospect puts him fairly close to the category of evil. He is, in the true sense and meaning of the word, an existential danger to our National security and our nation.

If you’re just tying women to the railroad tracks for “fun,” there’s not much money in that.  It’s when you tie them to railroad tracks for PROFIT – i.e., ransom – that things change.
