A Round of Bud Light for the House?

Point made, forgive and forget?

Washington Times:

The beer giant, which lost tens of billions in market cap and saw Bud Light sales tumble by about a quarter in the wake of its partnership with Dylan Mulvaney, has been eagerly rebranding itself in recent months, working instead with more masculine and conservative partners.

It has signed a new sponsorship deal with the UFC mixed-martial arts promotion, has partnered with football legend Peyton Manning and will sponsor the upcoming tour of comedian Shane Gillis, who once was fired from “Saturday Night Live” over purportedly racist jokes.

The former real-estate tycoon, who is friends with UFC president Dana White and whose son Donald Jr. also had called for conservative Bud Light boycotts to cease, noted Anheuser-Busch was helping veterans and farmers — two of his key favored groups.

Politico:

Trump’s message comes as a top Republican lobbyist for the company is set to host a fundraiser for the former president next month, with some tickets going at $10,000 each.

Jeff Miller, a close confidant of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy who built his Washington business during the Trump years, announced on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday that he would be hosting the fundraiser. The event is set to feature dozens of members of Congress and Republican leadership, as well as Donald Trump Jr.

Me? Nah. Short-attention spans is what they assume. Anyway, A-B is a subsidiary of a Belgian company that’s all-in on ESG. But yeah Clydesdales at the Super Bowl so everything’s good now.

America was once a place of great local breweries; let’s do that again.

Nasty beer regardless of whom they support.  Anchor Steam went under recently.  Sad.  I liked their Porter.  Still lots of good small craft beers.  Or there’s always Guinness. Liquid bread.  Yum…

Let us forget for a moment Trump’s motivations and ask if the claims made about A-B are true.

How much stock does Trump own in A-B and will this be an issue?

I don’t have a problem with a comeback if the company scrubs up and avoids future woke adventures.  In fact, I don’t really much care at all because I don’t buy beer.

Anheuser-Busch went from insulting and alienating their customer base with Mulvaney to signing Shane Gillis, who is like a caricature of their customer base. He plays a crude racist and antisemite.

It speaks of a woke millennial leadership who knows nothing about their customer base beyond the crude stereotypes they traded with each other in college and have never actually met anyone in their customer base.

So, no.  Other brands of beer, especially craft beers, employ and trade with lots of great Americans.  I’ll go with them instead.

I believe he has about $5 million in -B (or their owners).

The transactional nature of the statement next to the fundraising note is encouraging. Two parties find mutual advantage in working together, so they decide to work together. That feels something like normal when we’ve had years of weirdness.

It all seems reasonable, but my consumer behavior won’t help them. A few beers every Memorial Day weekend at a racetrack provides my fill for the year. Met my lifetime consumption goal, and possibly someone else’s, back in my 20’s.

Sorry to hear about Anchor Steam. It appeared in my life right when I began drinking beer, and found that it could be great.

I didn’t drink that swill before Dylan Mulvaney. I have no intention of starting now.

According to some, a Trump endorsement is the kiss of death. A-B is doomed.

Nah.  I’ve had very few beers over the past year or so and when I do have one I’d rather have a Corona or maybe a Carlsberg.   If a Grain Belt was available, I’d have one of those.

Yeah. This was a successful operation from the right. Contrary to insults leveled here, Trump is not my Messiah and I’m not going to start drinking tranny fluid just because he says we should.

Teetotaler Trump endorsing very low end beer. Nice. Employing Americans is not a license to insult and demean their customers or attempt to inflict the politics of dysfunction and disorder on them. And now the icon of the counter wave to the disorder and dysfunction makes an endorsement in exchange for a fundraiser. That’s a very swampy move to my eye.

Perhaps he prefers Laphroaig Ten or good wine.

Still, it’s important to know if he buys his own drinks.  If not, I doubt it’s because he’s young and pretty.

I have to disagree with Trump on this one.

In order for there to be a second chance, their has to be some understanding, contrition and a request for the second chance. I have the feeling that there are still executives that still dont understand what went wrong… If the CEO who did some media appearances, had apologized for the offense. Recognized that the executives who did it were let go. Then maybe the boycotts could move on. But there was none of that.

As much as they dislike their deplorable customer base, they have to recognize that they make beer. Low quality commodity beer, not whine coolers. While they may prefer the whine cooler customer those customers are never going to switch to Bud Light. So advertising to them is beyond pointless, its counter productive as your deplorable customers will leave and not be replaced by the whiners.

Also the beer business as a whole has been shrinking for years. The pot head GenZ are not drinkers. or Car buyers. Budweiser didnt understand the value of the customer base they detested nor the lack of value in the customers they desire.  For their sake, hopefully that’s truly in the past.

“Tranny Fluid?” That’s rich. Should go into the dictionary of double entendres.

I appreciate how Trump made an opening statement and then posed a question. He didn’t say “you have to forgive and forget” as if commanding an army. He raised a question for discussion. I like that.

I think it’s smart politics. He wants to shore up his base by complaining about Wokeness but he wants to appear forgiving for the moderate moms. I approve of his tactics.

We always knew Lileks was one of those damned elites, with his history of riding on cruise ships and whatnot.  I suspect he’s even attended a cocktail party.  And look at this, if you needed more evidence of him being one of “our betters.”  It’s not enough for James to have his picture on the cover of his book, he’s got to wear a suit and tie — and even a hat! — to show everyone how fancy he is.
