March for Israel: Heck, Every Month for Israel!
Today there was a spectacular gathering all over Washington DC as all kinds of Americans showed support for Israel. I was unable to attend due to work. Only found out about it yesterday, or perhaps I would have been able to juggle things. I saw one estimate of the attendance at 300,000, and let me tell you — I have been there for a 250K crowd. This was not less, to be sure, from the sweeping panoramic pictures that I saw.
I understand that messaging prior to the event was clear and without rancor, addressed to the Marxist rent-a-mob whose current unifrom involves Hamas and “Palestinian” garb, to steer clear — just don’t come to our event. Either the messaging or something else had our backs today (I was not there, but I refer to Our Team), as I have not seen any untoward reports. Everything was very toward, very toward.
I’ll start with an unlikely pairing, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-USA!USA!USA!) and the communist Van Jones, who both gave inspiring speeches. Chuck Schumer was there and so was Hakeem Jeffries. Schumer gave a lackluster cringe-y speech, but his heart was in the right place. I haven’t watched Jeffries yet — he also gets relatively high marks from others. I’ll ask people to post other videos from the event (from the news or whatever), relevant reactions, and so forth in the comments. Help make this thread a one-stop shop for people good at scrolling! This means, yes, please check the thread before posting external links (say, Twitter or YouTube), and if a couple of them collide, no problem, of course.
This moment is the reification of a process, an argument that has played out over the last month, and the verdict is most definitely in. The United States will stand behind Israel despite a whole lot of, uh, contrary noise. And I’m not poking the people who would withhold support due to “avoiding foreign entanglements” concerns and the like. I understand and respect that. I most definitely am poking those who are on the wrong side, and in this fight as in few others, there is definitely a right and wrong side. This is a more clear good vs. evil (there I said it!) contest than any other in long memory. Nobody’s perfect — not Israel, not Ronald Reagan, not me — but nobody needs to be perfect in order to merit a judgement worthy of fully committing to, once decided.
Here’s Speaker Mike Johnson with a peppy, punchy, short speech. I approve:
And here’s the aforementioned Van Jones.
Uhh… who invited this guy? Well, I’ll tell you, I am grateful for this speech. He’s still the commie and he does squeeze some equivocation in there, but overall, this is a remarkable speech for its portability. Who is his target audience? Not pasty white conservatives, and not pro-Israel Jews (amazing that needs clarification), and certainly not the MAGA crowd. He is speaking to black Americans who may “lean” against Israel due to other adjacencies, and he reminds them that Jews had blacks’ backs in the civil rights days. This is a powerful gift for him to give. Nobody expected him to be there, to be sure, and his absence would hardly have been noted. “Where’s Van Jones?” asked nobody. That makes this a moment of grace — he had nothing to lose by abstaining, and in fact has taken a risk by speaking. You just know that easily half of his commie crew are unhappy about this.
Van Jones just made it “okay” for a large swath of the left, whites and blacks alike, to come out for Israel. He also paved a heck of a road for blacks in particular. Why should anybody need Jones to make anything “okay”? Good question, but as many have noted, a large number of the people “protesting” against Israel (protesting apparently includes murdering Jews in the street) have no earthly clue what they are talking about, and are happily stampeded into pro-Hamas nonsense as easily as they are stampeded into defending the honor of Sandra Fluke or improving the economy through inflation. None of it works, but they don’t know that and they do not care. They don’t have to. Their safe space is pre-approved by people like Van Jones and the rest of the Marxist media-government-professor class, and Jones just opened up the Zion Lounge.
This speech by Jones matters more than it seems. The administration will continue its feckless wobbling, and Netanyahu knows exactly what sort of scum he’s dealing with in our leadership, but that is now a tightly constrained scum!
So Thank You, Mr. Jones. I don’t know how sincere he is in the tale he tells of just how he got to where he is on this, but whatever. It works when he tells the story, and that’s as much as I can ask. This is his “LaFayette” moment, and I’m glad he came through.
I’m glad America came through.
Post ’em if you got ’em!

I prayed for something like this. But I never thought it would be so big. Let’s ask that this be broadcast on all MSM stations.
He’s a lackluster, cringe-y kind of guy. Oleaginous. Yeah, that works. He’s just an oleaginous kind of guy.
How would anyone find out if the MSM do it?
From what I could tell a few hours ago, every major network carried the event and speeches. I found the same speeches recorded and “aired” on YouTube from every major network.
It was a great day and a great event. One for the ages. And all the networks showed up.
America at her best! :)
Conservative outlets monitor the MSM. And people report it. Opinion pieces will be done on it. You know how word gets around.
But in the end it really doesn’t matter if we know, I’m just asking that it be done.
I’m glad you let me know. :)
Agreed on all points. It’s heartening to see some semblance of sanity on both sides of the aisle. I appreciated Mike Johnson’s dig at the antisemitic “squad” as well. As far as Van Jones goes…….he does surprise every now and then. There are times when I think he actually makes arguments in good faith instead of in the typical disingenuous way the left typically prefers. Cheers to America. I do firmly believe the pro hamas demonstrations and idiot student groups are the fringe and not representative of the American public
I don’t think they’re representative of the American people, either, but they aren’t as fringe as they used to be.
You could have a point given the decline in higher education in this country. Traveling and meeting people across the country will actually restore some of your faith in Americans so that’s good. :)
Senator John Fetterman has shown a tremendous amount of fortitude and steadfastness on this. I may have to rethink my opinion of him.
Of course, I was not a fan of Ducktor Oz, either.
Thank you for your consistent and powerful message on the Jews and anti-Semitism, BDB. You are definitely on my team!
Apparently you are incorrect, BDB. I just checked the CNN website – there is no mention of this. Surely they would have mentioned hundreds of thousands of people gathering on the national mall to make a political statement. Regardless of what that statement is, that would seem to be newsworthy.
There is no headline regarding the march that you apparently just made up.
The actual headline on CNN’s website is:
“ISRAELI FORCES RAID GAZA’S LARGEST HOSPITAL“.
Get your facts straight.
* sarcasm off *
This is powerful stuff. CNN is not, technically, lying here. Probably. Pretty much.
But they are controlling the thoughts of millions of people.
Powerful stuff. I’m not sure how Western Civilization can combat such assaults.
Would any of the recent Speakers of the House have delivered a message like Johnson’s? I doubt it. Did Mitch have anything to say?
I think Mitch is time-sharing Michael Jackson’s oxygen chamber with Joe Biden. Notice how you never see them together?
Yes really amazed at that. He has been attacked by progressive activists over and over and doesn’t back down a bit.
ABC outlet cites estimated 290K while most outlets use wimpy “tens of thousands” phrasing:
Fox News, “nearly 300K”:
Interesting. I did not notice the absence of CNN from the coverage. The other major networks covered it very well.
That’s quite a statement CNN is making.
But then I shouldn’t be surprised: I think it was CNN whose reporters were talking to Saddam Hussein at some point long after they should have been had they been on the side of the United States.
In fact, CNN promised and provided favorable coverage of the Hussein regime in exchange for access. Traitors to this country; traitors to their suposed “principles”. Shameless dictator-fluffing propagandists. At home and aborad.
Thank you. I thought I remembered that.
One of my mom’s favorite Bible quotes was “The rain falls on the just and unjust alike.” She found it vaguely humorous.
The people at CNN will live in a world made right by the Israelis and a few of their friends.
That they will survive as part of western civilization (in spite of their best efforts to do otherwise) is probably a good thing on a cosmic level. :) :)
CNN is this guy:
There’s a lot of that going around these days.
If you’ve been reading/watching CNN, be sure to take a hot shower and use plenty of soap. And thank you for your service.
I always wear a mask.
I think it helps.
Remember not to have a 4x scope in your carryon bag, lest you look through it in the airport lounge and start making “pew pew” noises.
??
I watched some of the speeches live-streamed and left the office to try to catch the tail end of the rally but the metro police
would not let out at the Smithsonian exit–departing crowds had already made it one way. So I was swept up in the departing mob scene and back on the trains.
A bit reminiscent of the Tea Party march in that people were chatty, friendly, cheerful, and polite.
I overheard three separate conversations in which people spoke of being close to or knowing people/families of persons lost in this tragedy.
A pretty girl handed me the little flag which is my souvenir of the missed event proudly displayed on my always absurdly cluttered desk.
Nice turnout but it should have been far larger.
Let’s all rate OB’s desk gear.
Ahem. Well. . . Yes.
You can see his desktop. Not a good sign.
A cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind. An empty desk is a sign of an empty mind. Etc.
