Jeff Landry
I know October 2023 will be long remembered for the tragic events in Israel, but also, on Oct. 14, something quite exciting and encouraging happened in Louisiana. Jeff Landry, a Trump-endorsed candidate for Governor of the great state of Louisiana, won the election in a walk-off grand slam fashion. With 51.6% of the vote, avoiding a run-off election for the first time since 2011, Democrat Shawn Wilson, got only 25.9% of the vote. 25.9!
The results mapped out like this:
This looks as solid as the map of Florida did for Desantis when he handily won re-election. So, after eight years of Democrat government, has Louisiana seen the light?
Maybe take a break from the tragedy unfolding in the Middle East, and enjoy some happy thoughts of a solidly Republican Louisiana.
Combined with the great news from Pennsylvania, this is shaping up to be a solid election cycle in 2024…(knocked on wood)
Pennsylvania? In case you missed it — this year, they implemented an automatic voter registration system. Voters are registering Republicans at a 10:1 clip over Democrats.
So be of good cheer in these dark days; there is some good news to be found.

I think of him as a Scott Pressler endorsed candidate.
Jim George beat you to this, back on the 15th.
I found this comparison on a YouTube video from someone I normally keep watch on. Unfort. the only way I could get this was to screen-shot the Youtube option, I haven’t seen it anywhere else.
I’m not sure if the “before” version is supposed to represent the 2020 election, or maybe 2019 if that’s the last time they elected the governor.
I didnt see Jim George’s post, I thought these election result would be big happy news here, and wanted to share it.
Yes, the before map is from 2019. I scooped the image from the wikipedia entry on the 2023 Louisiana election.
It’s good enough news that it is worth repeating.
Here’s my post, for what it’s worth. Obviously I share your enthusiasm about this outcome and will venture an observation or two based primarily on the map @kedavis provided. The big blue spots in South Louisiana are, of course, New Orleans, population very heavily African American and almost completely run by Democrats, including a person who surely must be one of the most incompetent Mayors ever elected in the country – not just in Louisiana — LaToya Cantrell, known in the business community as LaToya the Destroyer. It has been thus for as long as I can remember and we were in and out of NOLA a good bit when we were filing most of our cases (Admiralty and Maritime) in Federal Court in New Orleans. It also happens to be the city of my birth. And Baton Rouge, the other big blue blob, is, need I say any more, the home of LSU, teeming with academics and students both of which groups occupy their own mini-universes which are only occasionally even slightly connected to reality. I speak with perhaps a modicum of authority on that subject as it was our home for our lifetime until 5 years ago when we moved to the Florida Panhandle. The blue spot in the Northeast corner of the state is East Carroll Parish, at last report that I knew of, the poorest in the state. The blue spot between New Orleans and Baton Rouge is St. John the Baptist whose proportion of African American citizens may be even higher than Orleans Parish, if that’s possible.
As I said in the heading of my post, I think this very well could be a harbinger of things to come in 2024 and I assume the DNC is thinking that as well as they probably had every reason to think they were going to walk away with this one.
On a humorous note, I just a few days ago received a “Thank You” note from Wilson, thanking me for my vote and my support, both of which are obviously imposibilities given the R behind my name and our current place of residence!
I’m thinking maybe you voted there without realizing it…
Depending on how thoroughly and frequently they update the voter roles, maybe he did.
Did the note mention how many times you had voted?
How is this going to sit with all the people that are claiming that republicans will never win another election?
I believe one of the Doomsday Brothers has already speculated on another thread that the Democrats didn’t bother to steal this election, because they are saving up to steal big next year.
Funny, that’s the same answer I got when I pointed out the Virginian election where Republicans swept all three State-wide offices and flipped the State House in 2021, only one year after the infamous 2020 election.
