Banana Republic “A” vs. Banana Republic “B”

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. — Newton’s Third Law

I fear we are now past the point where the United States has become a banana republic. The only question now is who will be running it? Banana Republic “A” is the existing power structure — the Progressives running things and the “Banana Republicans”* holding their coats. Banana Republic “B” is what comes after.

Banana Republic “A” is sowing chaos, trying to provoke reaction to justify the next and every successive measure of control. They will not back off. I am not even sure they can, even if they want to. Progressive-stoked feelings of disdain is like a fire that creates its own weather that, in turn, fuels the conflagration until, and only if, all the fuel is consumed.

The powers that be have taken a big gamble. They think they control the furies. They may be right for any foreseeable future that they care about. But their control will not, it cannot last. And then the tables will be turned. And sadly it will not be a time of justice, it will be a time of revenge.

Be honest, what do you want to happen to the DC crowd? The people who put J6 paraders in solitary pre-trial confinement but bailed out the BLM rioters? The people who acted so offended that Trump voters would question an election outcome but saw nothing wrong with questioning the 2000, 2004, 2016 elections? The people who attacked the White House, set the St. John’s Church fire, and toppled statues but call an unarmed group who delayed a Congressional proceeding for a few hours “insurrectionists”? The people who demonstrated outside Supreme Court justice’s houses while “law enforcement” remained idle? The purveyors of unequal justice under the law? The climate “change” grifters who financially benefit from popular immiseration? I could go on. This isn’t an exhaustive list by any means. I am sure you can add to it easily.

What terrible things have happened to our constitutional republic, our people. What terrible things will yet be visited upon us. “Fundamental fairness” seems like a memory. Not between the proles themselves but between The Party (yes, it is just one) and the proles.

Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. (Orwell, 1984)

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever. (Orwell, 1984)

I don’t think it will be forever — at least I hope it isn’t. And at some point, the foot in the boot and it’s target will change. How many times before we can find our way back to the ideals in our Declaration and Constitution, I don’t know. But I fear that uncontrolled reaction is unavoidable.

For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. — Hosea 8:7

* Banana Republicans are those who claim to revere the Constitution but are willing to let the rights of certain disfavored persons be abridged and abused in order to secure their own plans and preferences.

How many banana republics have escaped and become like the US as founded? There is a reason we called ourselves “exceptional.” We have no Washingtons,  Jeffersons, or Madisons to bring us back.

The existing core of the coup will shed some of its Progressive face paint, but it will not become Conservative.  It will simply be — nakedly technocratic, blaming and crediting everything to the newest euphemism for/like “The Algorithm”, “Social Credit”, “Artificial Intelligence”, “Responsible Government”, “Big Brother” and so forth.

Democrat New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has suspended the Second Amendment rights of Albuquerque residents as a “public health emergency” due to an uptick in gun violence. Once “emergencies” give a Governor (or President) to suspend fundamental rights there is no such thing as limited government.

We’ve talked about guns being lumped in as “public health” and the separate but connected issue of “emergency powers” here before.
As usual, the fascist government finds it at best easier to disarm the innocent than to pursue the guilty.  At best.   Most likely it finds it preferable.

I envy Americans, who get an opportunity to throw the bums out every four years, (if not every two) in favour of a side which will at least adhere to some degree to a different set of values, however poorly they may turn those values into actions.

To take Ireland, as an example, every political party (bar one or two tiny ones) favours progressive social policies, high taxes and green, green, green all the way – as evidenced by a recent further increase in carbon taxes. People like me -and there are very many- who once were loyal voters for a Party, are now cast adrift with no-one Party reflecting a plurality of our values.

I appreciate that the conversation is about the USA- my point is that you don’t have it all that bad.

Fair enough. But it was better, a lot better, and the direction it is going is beyond worrisome. Your comment demonstrates that there is no where to go. The anglophone countries  are sadly not abiding by our common heritage of restraint on power.

It’s bad, but it could be worse is not consoling.

Yeah.  Just wait.  It will be worse.
