It Feels Better Naked

I know I should use protection, but it feels so much better with no barriers.  It sounds irresponsible and selfish, but it just so much better au naturel.  My wife keeps worrying about a possible “accident” if I continue like this, but I don’t care what she says – I’m not going to put a case on my cell phone.  It’s not that I don’t care about my cell phone.  But it’s less bulky and easier to use without a case – it feels better naked.

It’s been a good phone, and it’s done everything I’ve asked of it.  We’ve been through a lot together, and I appreciate all it’s done for me.  But it’s several years old, and I’d rather have a new one with nice new features, so I’ve become less interested in protecting my old one with a case or something.  I certainly wouldn’t simply discard it, and if something were to happen to it, I would be upset.  Briefly.  Then I would get a nice, new, shiny phone and move on with my life quite happily.

I’ve noticed that the Democrats seem less interested in protecting Joe Biden recently.  Allegations by Republicans sometimes go unchallenged.  Tweets that question his integrity often lead to threads of legal hair-splitting rather than armies of bots defending his character.  Even the Democrat Party Marketing Division (the news media) allows an occasional story through that acknowledges reality, just a bit.  They don’t appear to be ready to simply discard him, and if something were to happen to him, they’d probably be upset.  Briefly.  But then they would get a nice, new, shiny replacement for him and would move on with their lives quite happily.

I doubt that Mr. Biden has noticed this.  But I am quite certain that his inner circle has.

Mr. Biden has worked his way up the political ladder because he is loyal to no person and no ideology.  This flexibility has proven useful in his political career.  But the downside is that now, no one is loyal to him.

And now, even those who ostensibly are responsible for his political well-being are losing interest in protecting him.  Because they would be quite happy to have a nice, new, shiny replacement for him.

And I suspect they’ll find a way to make that switch necessary, fairly soon.  They’ll find a way to blame the Republicans, of course.  “Oh, we’d rather keep Uncle Joe around – he’s wonderful – he really is.  But hey, things happen, and look!  This new one can walk and talk and everything!  This is so fun and exciting!”

My phone, and Mr. Biden, have served their purpose.  They are about to be replaced by their owners, as soon as they can come up with an excuse to do so.  My phone will be in a landfill with the rest of the trash, and Mr. Biden will be on the Georgetown faculty with the rest of the Democrats, by the end of the year.

It doesn’t matter how, exactly.  We’ve made up our minds.  The rest is just details.  Just use no protection, and wait for something to happen.  And something probably will.

My phone is fine.  But those new Samsungs are so shiny and exciting!

We’ll see what happens.  You never know…

On the underlying subject, I don’t use a case for my phones but a screen protector (tempered glass appears best) is a different story.  Scratches or even cracks on the phone “body” are irrelevant, not so on the screen.

Rather than a “case” you may prefer something like a “wallet” or “holster” – possibly belt-hung – where the phone can be safe from impacts when not actually being used.

Meanwhile, my current phone (LG Fortune 2) is like 3 years old now, and looking at newer phones I find that they aren’t as easy to use.  Just the text-messaging part of a new phone I looked at, seems very unnatural/non-intuitive.  Trying to find a particular person’s messages etc, as well as replying and so forth, is much simpler on the LG.

I suppose it may vary some by brand/model, but the version of Android seems to make the biggest difference.

    They’ll run Newsom. He’ll get 8million votes.

The only wrinkle is that the “handlers” – or whatever we want to call the cabal that is actually running things – is that the shiny new candidate probably thinks he or she has a mind of their own and won’t be the empty vessel FJB is.  Presumably Gavin Newsom (or whomever) will want to make his own decisions. That puts the handlers on the beach,  no?   Are they willing to accept that?    Going from the Wizard behind the curtain to a talking head on MSNBC is quite a letdown.   Where do they find a youngster who’s as big an idiot as FBJ?   Oh.  Wait.   Never mind.

And he will pick his own (female) VP. Like someone from Michigan. Or someone named Amy, who I think is even more ruthless. I’m probably forgetting someone the Obamettes like.

I’ve taken to using a wallet case, but as my phone gets older, it overheats more and I need to remove it from the case.

You are correct. It feels better naked. But I’m prone to accidents and we can’t afford another…

And My absolute favorite case was an external battery/case by Mophie.   It provided enormous life to my old phone and its tired battery.   Plus it gave it a satisfying heft.   And it had a rounded back and edges that made it pleasing in the hand.   I’m actually looking forward to the battery in my current phone getting a little worse for wear so I have an excuse to get a Mophie battery case for this one too.

I was on the wrong track there for a bit. My Iphones have always been exposed to the elements with only a thin screen protector. Like the president, I have no interest in upgrading to the same thing. They don’t get any smarter, they still fall off the bike, they still have boxes of documents somewhere, and I will still be paying for this product of China for a few years now.

You don’t drop stuff like scalpels since you are a doc.  Lawyers drop stuff all the time. Phones, briefs, books, etc.  Just wish I could drop Slow Joe off over the Grand Canyon.

But what about Kamala? I’m hoping they keep propping Joe up until 2025.

At least, Joe can still read his cue cards (sometimes). I doubt Kamala can make it through the first sentence without bursting out with a trademark cackle.

You mean, you hope Joe stays officially in office until the next Dimocrat takes over?

Or you hope that Kamala doesn’t even have one day as “President” until Trump or Vivek or whoever is (back) in office?

I was reading the comments with a growing sense of shock and dismay.  I felt really bad for you–this post was a real gem, and you surely recognized that when you were finished crafting it and were ready to hit the Publish button.

I was about to express my appreciation for this piece of work when you got in ahead of me.

One slight correction, if you have sirius/xm in a car, you can stream it to your phone using the xm app. When you replace your phone, it can still be useful inside your house. Put it  in airplane mode, cut on wifi and Bluetooth then stream Sirius xm music to your house Bluetooth speaker. Ergo,, it will still be useful.

Biden, however, will be of no use to anyone, just like you said, nor is he better naked.

    Clearly.

I was addressing the comments about phones.  Trying to keep this thread from wandering off into oblivion.  Which would never happen on Ricochet, of course.

I don’t care what people think about phones.  But I’d love to hear what everyone thinks about possible strategies that Democrats might employ to dump Biden
