Yevgeny Prigozhin of the Wagner Group in Plane Crash

https://www.foxnews.com/world/yevgeny-prigozhin-plane-crashed-killing-10-officials-say.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of Russia’s Wagner Group who challenged the rule of Vladimir Putin just months ago, was involved Wednesday in a plane crash that has left 10 people dead outside of Moscow, state media is reporting.

The business jet was traveling from the Russian capital to St. Petersburg went it went down in the Tver region, according to the TASS news agency.

It’s not immediately clear whether Prigozhin is among the 10 reported to have died in the crash. The Pentagon told Fox News Digital that it is monitoring the situation.

As a friend of mine said, “He was special. No flying out of a window for him.”

Will be interesting to see what develops. As they Emerson says, ” ‘When you strike at the king, you must kill him.”

If he was voluntarily still living and working inside Russia (a pretty big “if”) then it’s sorta kinda hard to feel much sympathy, as that’s just stoopid. If he wanted to stay alive he shoulda been begging the USA for political asylum. It’s pretty much the only country where Putin’s assassins might have had trouble getting to him.

    From the WSJ article:

A business jet that had Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Wagner paramilitary group, among its passengers crashed northwest of Moscow, Russia’s state Tass news agency said citing aviation authorities, with all 10 people aboard killed.

Footage posted by onlookers in the Tver region showed what seemed like the trail of an antiaircraft missile and then the jet, an Embraer Legacy 600, falling out of the sky with one wing missing. Social media channels close to Wagner said that Russian air defenses had shot down the plane, which was one of several aircraft owned by Prigozhin.

Wonder what sort of flight. I would not have wanted to be in the same vehicle of any type with him.

The Ukrainian war bloggers I follow have been noting the past few days that whatever deals Putin seemed to have made with Prigozhin, it seems that Putin is not keeping his end of the deal, and Wagner is rapidly becoming insignificant.

Dmitry Utkin, former(?) GRU special forces officer, second in command of the Wagner Group and its alleged founder, was supposedly onboard as well.

Sort of. Putin could have taken him out a couple months ago after that faked coup attempt. He would have had pretext and been celebrated for it by his supporters.

    Why wait until now?

I saw a video on Twitter of a plan tumbling down.   It was definitely not controlled flight.  I think I saw pictures of that guy in Africa last week.   We have to assume foul play.  Is the end of something or the start of something else?

Article says it was Wagner’s own private jet. I guess we can be thankful for small mercies that it wasn’t a commercial flight.

Also being reported: A second plane, which also had Prigozhin on its passenger list, landed at Podolsk (just outside Moscow) a little while ago.

The 24-48 hour rule seems applicable. The dust hasn’t settled on this story.

WSJ is now mentioning another plane.

What if the plot was really the Air Force who had a couple of plane shot down in the coup attempt and they were trying to get their revenge?  And then what if Prighozhin found out about it and swapped planes?

I think you are correct, 24-48 hours at least.

Whut? Just because Utkin had SS insignia tattoos? Don’t jump to conclusions. That was probably only a coincidence.

Well, all we know from what I read is that Prigozhin is on the passenger list.  It doesn’t mean he was actually on the plane.  This could have been his way to disappear to some Caribbean island under a new name.
