This Day in Santa Monica
At Il Forno, David Mamet’s favorite restaurant. The interview will appear in due course on the website of the Wall Street Journal, but I can tell you now that the nation’s greatest living playwright quoted Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman, Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager, Charles Krauthammer, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bible.
P.S. The espresso proved flawless.

Outstanding bibliography.
Exciting prospect – Peter, do you know if the interview will be behind the paywall at WSJ? I may have to finally pony-up for a subscription.
What, no Groucho Marx?
I look forward, as always, to the next Uncommon Knowledge.
This photo looks like a painting. Very nice.
Always with the “coffee” and the “esteemed.” That’s some life you lead, Peter Robinson.
Looking forward to the listen.
Great. Looking forward to it.
I’m so looking forward to this!
Hope he wasn’t eating during the interview. Mamet can be lovably clueless in an artsy-genius kind of way, explaining his tendency to give radio interviews while chewing. At least it sounds like chewing.
Looking forward to the interview. As a primer, here’s Andrew Ferguson’s great piece on Mamet’s conversion from a couple years ago.
Nice!
What on Earth is Mamet doing with his left hand?
Tsk, tsk – to the pure, all things are pure. Titus 1, 15
Peter, I know we have to let you go, but one last question: what’s it like? You have interviewed so many amazing people over the years. Whats it like to be that guy?
That looks like a good interview. Yeah, the interview. It looks like a good one. The interview. Looking forward to hearing it. The interview. Looks good.
What’s it like? Humbling. Every person I interview–every last one of them–knows more than I do. All the guests just have such fascinating minds.
Every time I listen to the podcast I think “How are those people so dang smart?” Well except for Rob. No, including Rob! Not really. I’m kidding!
Ok, anyway, so you are saying there are people even smarter than you? Man…

GK — Not to worry; the Uncommon Knowledge episodes are freely available as YouTube videos from the Hoover.org web site. Enjoy!
Can. Not. Wait.
By the way, if you’re excessively humbled by the minds of those you interview, please let me buy you lunch the next time you’re in Los Angeles. You’ll feel much better about your mind, and I’ll get to be a gawking fan and demand your autograph.
Wow. That is excellent to hear.
That picture looks somewhat romantic. Maybe it’s the restaurant.
On a more serious note, though, I’ve heard Mamet in bite-size amounts on radio and so I’m looking forward to getting the full flavor of his commentary at length and without interruption.
In my next life, I want to come back and do what Peter does.
Looking forward to the interview.
