What Rainbows Really Represent
Just your friendly reminder this first day of June that rainbows are wonderful things and according to Scripture a great promise. It’s not about race or sexuality.
From the book of Genesis chapter 9:
13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
Don’t let the world take away something God made for our good.
Thank you, and amen!
Yes, and compare the beauty of God’s rainbow to the hideous confusion of colors presented in corporate propaganda:
One of my favorite pieces of music is Benjamin Britten’s Noyes Fludde (Noah’s Flood) based on a 15th century Mystery Play. It’s short, has lots of great tunes and is usually performed in churches, as instructed by the composer. At the end of the opera God, following the biblical story, promises never to destroy the earth again with water. As a token of his pledge a large rainbow is usually unfurled. Well – you can see the problem. In most mainline churches the temptation will be too great to resist: hoist the LGBTQ colors! And I suspect Britten, who was gay, would find that appalling.
I wish I had some stickers depicting the animals leaving the Ark. Perhaps ones that include the Gen 9.16 reference. Then I could affix the stickers to the various rainbow displays. [Inspired by the Biden gas pump stickers.]
Oh dear. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people thought that such animal stickers implied support for — um — animal-attracted persons.
That flag’s gonna need another stripe.
“God gave Noah the rainbow sign. No more water the fire next time“
Thank you. And, as Moira Greyland has repeatedly reminded her friends on FB: Pride is what turned angels into demons.
Pride gets the month of June.
What about greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth?
Looks like the virtues are getting crowded out.
Thanks. I had not seen that one. We love Studio C around here.
