#NoMoreMonths

I pledge my vote for the candidate who will end the absurd practice of “____ Month.” Pick a day, fine. But don’t pretend that there are no more than 12 things that should be honored. And if you have multiple “____ Months” at the same time, how is that an honor?!

And while you’re at it, let’s review the criteria for lowering the flag to half-mast. It’s been down so many times during the last year that it is starting to lose its meaning. It’s becoming like the American Flag is the one country flag that never makes it to the top of the pole. I respect the sorrow and grief that an affected family or community feels. But national mourning is only significant if it is special, not routine.

I contributed this headline to the Babylon Bee forum:  “Congress to increase number of months to 18 to accommodate more identity celebrations”.  Or something like that.

100% agree about the flag at half mast.  I don’t even bother to find out anymore about why the flags are at half mast.

I’ve always had the suspicion that some people are overly eager to lower the American flag, even if only half-way.

National mourning is a bizarre concept from the get-go. I reckon we should dip the flag for dead presidents and Memorial Day and call it good.

Yes. My usual early morning bicycle ride takes me past three enormous American flags, at Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, and a car dealer. Sometimes over the last couple of years it seems like they’ve spent more time at half-mast than they have at the top of the pole. The latest was for the one year anniversary of the deaths of the students in Uvalde – not even to mark a current death. [I know that may sound disrespectful of the families that lost their children a year ago, but to me the lowering of the American flag is to be a rare tribute, not a general event anytime we feel sad.] The half-mast flag is getting so common that people might start feeling dissed if the flag isn’t lowered for their occasion.
