Where My Mental Health Peeps At?

Here’s a mentally ill woman coming unhinged and experiencing some sort of catharsis. In public. Assume that a room full of fellow professionals agree that this woman is mentally ill, and you all are just haggling over specifics. What diagnoses would come to mind based on this video, which of course you would then seek to either rule in or rule out?

I have made some assumptions of my own — first, that this is a plain vanilla woman, always been female, etc.  No funny business there.  I also assume for our purposes here that this woman does not have some remarkable family association with the trans issue (such as having produced trans offspring, or such). So the craze in this woman is entirely induced by the politics of the time.

Fascinating that an issue so ludicrous can take such a grip on some people.  At least with global stasis absolutists, we can understand their irrational fears that the planet might change from year to year; that stuff is scary.  But trans?  Really?

It’s a sickness just to go off like this in public, never you mind actually participating in the fad.

This seems related (in my opinion) to some kind of sickness or common component of many sicknesses in which people really fail to see themselves.  It seems that they go through life without an internal “observer”, or at least without a competent one, so they never get the feedback that they need when they need it.

I am thinking of the world-famous People of Wal-Mart types, who seem to visit here from an island of utter non-self-awareness, showing up in your underwear, or in “revealing” nightwear at 450 lbs. on a Tuesday afternoon, or in some earnestly worn spastic outfit which over 90% of Americans would surely view as a Halloween costume.

There is something literally broken in people who dress in otherworldly fashion, or who become morbidly obese, or covered in tattoos, or mutilated by bizarre piercings and slashings, and of course genital mutilation and male/female confusion.  At some level, it’s the same piece that’s broken in all of these people.

I presume that there are depression and coping mechanisms that propel the unfortunate into increasingly eccentric behavior, but that’s just a layman’s rough-fit working theory.

I literally ask: what’s wrong with these people?  The effect is a surprisingly similar “failure to thrive,” which is part of where I get off calling it all illness.

Feel free to address as much or as little of this as you care to.  I’ve rambled, and it’s not as though I’ve tried writing this befuddlement down before.  The question about the lady in the video is really restricted to the bizarre experience she is going through in the video.  What is that?

Someone at twitchy had this to say:

Like other crazy white liberal women, Cavanaugh is very very very privileged. And likely very very very bored and believes she must fight for the little people so she has something to do. We can’t help but think of the deranged Chardonnay Mafia here in Virginia, a group of wealthy, middle-aged, crazy white women who felt so useless in their privilege they decided to become social justice warriors.

If @She is right, and I think She clearly is, then this is all a more logical and reasonable display than any mental illness.  If your plan is to disrupt a legislative body for the entire course of its convening and the only way to do this is to filibuster (which she had been reported and quoted as doing) then you must keep talking every time you can for as long as you can, and what you say doesn’t matter, but only that you are taking up time with your talking.  And I think for all of us, if we are not going to read aloud War and Peace over and over, we run out of reasonable things to say.

And if the message of her chant roughly corresponds to her ulterior purpose in filibustering to fill the hours with talk, this is all rather reasonable.  Unsightly, but reasonable.

    Finally, this.

Thanks.  What she’s doing isn’t some sort of one-off shouty response due to a mental wiring fault.  This woman obviously has her priorities completely bass-ackwards; she has bought into, and is following, an arranged and clearly-defined agenda which aligns with her warped world view.

Her degree of mental illness might best be measured by–if only such a thing could happen–her inability to recognize reality when it hits her in the face.

Hate, compounded by spite, multiplied by resentment, overlaid by jealousy, narcissism, and self-love.

I think that about covers it.

There are a great many filibusters which feature nothing like this.

True enough, I did not know she was performing a filibuster at the time, so it was not the exemplar I thought it might be.  But obviously there is a performative aspect — she’s at a podium with a microphone.  It doesn’t have to be bad-robot-mowing-the-roses malfunction in order to be so far out of the ordinary, and so intentionally annoying, that sanity and civilization have no place for it, and struggle to even name it.  That the whole thing is a performance doesn’t disqualify it from being utterly batsquirt insane.

    Batsquirt?  :) –> thinking –> ;}

I think the most accurate technical term here is idiocy.  I just was watching Joe Rogan talking about men in women’s MMA, and he (though being sympathetic to transsexuality) thought the whole acceptance of men fighting women was idiocy, too.  And when those in power and calling the shots are idiots, it flows downhill.

This woman is just swept away in the flow.  And if she’s an idiot, this behavior is in reasonable conformity with her base idiocy.

If you want to make a mental illness out of it, her chosen behavior seems in conformity with a juvenile temper tantrum, and this is mostly a matter of childhood discipline.

There’s plenty of evidence to suggest that the left considers unhinged temper tantrums to be an effective marketing tactic.  Perhaps because it displays passion.  And this clip *did* go viral.

The third viral is both good and bad. As long as you please your guys it doesn’t matter if you annoy the people who weren’t going to be in your court anyway.

Maybe I post this on F’book or similar and write that the senator in question is bizarre and embarrassing. My insane in-writes that she is brave and we need to support LGB&c and posts cringey memes to that effect. Many friends and family weigh in, including our young nieces and nephews who are primed for social justice and aren’t really that into decorum.

In the grand scheme of things, it moves us all left.

In cases like this, and maybe depending on where they’re posted, maybe so.  But when police-misconduct videos “go viral” I don’t think many of the viewers are thinking “Yay, cops!  Go, cops!  Beat that handcuffed ‘suspect’ senseless!  And don’t forget to tase his nuts!”

Dr. Bastiat: This is getting worse quickly.  Young people are becoming less tolerant of others.  They’re being trained to do so.  At this point, they’re required to do so.

    Maybe @drbastiat has it right.

While ‘manias’ have appeared episodically throughout history, they have become more frequent and widespread since the dawn of the Internet. The technology is NOT merely surveillance. It would be dangerous enough if it was. But it actively changes the behavior of its targets. Facebook Instagram TikTok et al provide a constant loop of surveillance – analysis – behavior modification designed to make ooodles of money by selling things for advertisers. But that loop can manipulate behaviors beyond which toothpaste or shoes to buy. They manipulated a presidential election in 2020. I believe the “trans” phenomenon is another example.

A random thought – “these” people have just too much time on their hands. They should have some demanding something like survival that requires their ongoing attention and some hard physical work. They should be too tired at the end of the day to plan such shenanigans.

I keep thinking that some of these young people had helicopter parents. The parents over-supervised their play time. Dirt was feared, so  playing at a playground was out.

Kindergarten and early grammar school classes were organized around a principle of rewarding everyone, no matter how badly they did at anything.

Teacher to 10 year old: “Yes, Tiffany, you flunked spelling again. But you did write your name correctly, so here’s a prize!”

A generation earlier, Tiffany would have been evaluated. Was she dyslexic?  Was their some type of learning difficulty which needed to be discovered and then worked out? Were both her eyesight and hearing okay?

But the ” give a prize for everyone” concept made a teacher’s job easier. No discussions with the principal, or school nurse. Just open a drawer and hand the girl the dollar store, shiny hair barrette, and case closed.

Even worse, the parents who raised their kids according to “tiger mom” philosophy and required their offspring to study hard and attain goals, well,  their kids now work as execs at woke companies that totally support the  Machaela’s of the world.

Now we in society are paying the price.
