I Kinda Like McCarthy

I’m starting to like McCarthy. I was adamantly against him as speaker (although I didn’t see an alternative). I thought he was a corrupt, spineless RINO.

But I kind of like his style. He’s not very flashy, so he doesn’t stand out. But he’s effective (got just enough Republicans to vote for a debt ceiling increase and spending cuts) and persistent (didn’t give up after 15 rounds of speaker votes).

I like how he canceled Rashida Tlaib’s nasty anti-Israel rally and substituted a bipartisan one of his own. He didn’t scream and holler or make a scene. He just tweeted out a simple message, and, boom, her event is canceled. Same way when he spoke after the meeting with Biden about the debt limit — he wasn’t particularly eloquent but he was clear that the Republicans have done their part and now it will be the Dems’ fault if there is a default.

Who knows whether he would have a spine if he didn’t need the Freedom Caucus on his side? But so far, he’s been quietly effective.

As with Trump in 2016, I didn’t support him in the primaries, but I’m glad he won.

I truly appreciate your awareness and effort to post these small moments.  They should be commonplace, and commonsense.

But in today’s upside down world, we tout them as victories.

    That is sad and terrifying.

I agree with you. But he needs to get the J6 videos in the hands of many journalists ASAP. One night of showing them on Tucker and Schumer went crazy. Let’s see if it was a Fedsurrection.

I wrote a post when we knew that McCarthy could be the leader of the house that I thought McCarthy could turn it around. It seemed like everyone gave me raspberries and were very skeptical. Raspberries back atcha!

It seems as though the leadership fight in January was good. It was messy at the time but is probably saving fights now. It let him know where his caucus stood and set some expectations. Agree that he’s better than I expected.

My opinion (admittedly without a lot of evidence) is that McCarthy is a genuine conservative but spineless, so the leadership fight in January was particularly useful because it substituted the spine of Chip Roy for that of McCarthy.

So not all Republicans are totally useless all of the time?  Who knew?

To be fair, there was years more evidence to support their side, than yours.  It’s turned out well so far, but that wasn’t especially predictable.

    aka, “lucky guess.”

Ha! Not so! It was my brilliant analysis.

    Seriously, it’s all lucky guessing.

Last I heard they were made available to all media, with Tucker being first. Looks like Rupert Murdoch shut down the 2nd and additional nights of Tucker showing the videos. No one else seems to have had an interest in showing them.

If Tucker still has them, he could be showing them now.

I would suppose they were Fox’ property.

But if they’re public records, they’re not anyone’s property.  That was the main problem with them not being released before.

I agree with you. At first I thought he’d be just another Republican squish, but he’s been quite effective –so far. Here’s hoping he keeps it up!
