The Missing Debate — Omnibus killed the House GOP’s First Year

Remember all the omnibus talk from December and January?

That’s why this session of Congress does not feature any conversation about spending.  Recall that McConnell rescued the Democrats’ ONE POINT SEVEN TRILLION DOLLAR spending orgy by refusing to let it die — he performed CPR on a dead bill to make sure that this new Republican House majority would not get a chance to vote on the money.

Why would he do that?  Because of the slimness of the majority.  The same reason that McCarthy had to give up some ground for the speakership.  With a narrow majority, the leadership needs every vote, which means concessions.  Which means behaving like a conservative, or the crunchycons walk away from your bill.

There’s no talk of budget priorities, of returning to regular order, of shutdowns, none of it.  McConnell gave the Democrats a blank check, so that Republicans could not limit the spending — especially not conservative Republicans.

I know that some here pooh-pooh the idea of a GOP war against the Tea Party.  Call this exhibit #97.

I spit. The post linked above has a list of people to spit at.

Yes, those Senators voting for that Omnibust Spending bill are horrible.   They intentionally kneecapped an incoming House that was more conservative and less communist.   The good news is that the debt ceiling debate offers a chance to claw back some of the crazy spending commitments.  We should all engage in this new fight.  For example it is not estimated that the “green” incentives in the Inflation Re-ignition Act will cost $1.1 Trillion instead of the forecasted $300B.   Shut that crap down.

McConnell supporters bring up the judiciary and that is great. It’s just a bandage covering the damage he has done by waging war on the Tea Party.

The next war will be the debt limit. It should not increase.

The play will be to lower interest rates as Powell pivots. This will be the signal for a stock market crash within 6 months. A financial crisis ensues as small regional banks fail.. Then Yellen can spend a few trillion dollars rapidly if the debt limit has been raised.

    Don’t raise the debt limit.

It’s a lot more important for Congress to address the finances of the nation than for them to pass any other new laws. Don’t we have enough already?

That is the really frustrating part that stings.  Republicans have to find a way to defuse the debt ceiling bomb because the democrats will continue to use it as a cudgel until they do.

Not sure they will.  I think the Democrats want to show dominance and rub the establishment republican’s face in it a bit.  They want to make sure going into the next election the establishment remembers they are meant to be the junior partners in the relationship.

I am sure at the moment they expect to get something.  I just don’t think the Dems are going to give them any, so yes it will be an embarrassment as will the groveling for some kind of face saving scraps.

There is so much dead wood – brown-nosing, useless, lying generals and equipment – that should be put out to be scrapped and sold off, there is no reason to increase the military budget. Use the savings for new programs that actually work.

In sports that have a great statistic called Wins Against Replacement.  It is basically how many wins a team gets by having that particular player instead of average player for that position.   Is McConnell really that much better on judges than a typical GOP Senator?   He doesn’t nominate anyone, he just holds votes.   I contend that any typical GOP Senator in the role of Majority leader would have done at least as good a job of holding confirmation votes.   So, let’s have no further talk about ‘meh judges and evaluate McConnell based on how he helped/corrupted the country.

Hang On is correct ; the Debt Limit is the next big War

The Pubs in the House have to stand fast. On this one issue they have leverage. Really big leverage.

The financial crisis is not over. A second bank run is forming , Commercial Real Estate is in real trouble along with hundreds of billions in loans financing them and then there is the unbelievable problem of hundreds of trillions in derivatives that have gone bad. You read that right- Trilllions.

At the center of this crisis was the Trillions in QE which caused it all. But behind QE was the FED all too willing to finance the Woke spending, and at the real root was the enormous spending by the UniParty.
The current budget is spending over $2Trillion (8% of GDP) over what we can ever afford so must cut $2  Trillion out of the budget thus year. That’s right $2Trillion or I am afraid the whole economy is going to collapse horribly.
The Petro Dollar is collapsing and the idea of the Dollar as the World ‘s Reserve Currency which allowed us to print so much money is under a brutal attack. Many of the BRICS (even France) are now paying for their oil with Yuan. No way can we print another 2, 3 or 4 Trillion this year to pay for the egregious Uni Party spending.

We interrupt the Next Big War to bring you this “RESTRICT” Bill, which will spell the end of free speech.  Think it’s bad?  It’s worse than that.  I haven’t had a chance to sit down and look at it — it’s awful enough from what bits I have seen.

There’s no way it’s Constitutional, but that is NO LONGER A DEFENSE.  Our inventive Supreme Court will let this thing fly with a mere haircut, and it needs burning.

The war in Ukraine is not a big deal the way this is, and this is not just another in a line of (admittedly disastrous) spending increases.  This is a bill to end free speech, to grant the government wide and vicious powers of policing speech (and any digital communications, like banking), with “adversaries of the United States” to be determined not by Congress, but by some flunkies in Homeland Security or the intel community.

This is the government throwing off its pretense at rights and liberty — this guts the First Amendment and replaces it with “as the Secretary may determine,” and “not to exceed twenty years or one million dollars” throughout.

This is big and its about to happen in the name of banning TikTok.

Why?  The government hates competition.  We are their serfs to command, not China’s.

But BDB, all those Mitch McConnell handpicked “constitutionalist” justices like Roberts, Barret, and Kavanaugh would surely standfast against this egregious assault on the Constitution, just like they did against the ridiculous treatment of the J6 defendants and the egregious treatment – oh wait they didn’t do anything!ehhhhj?
