Marching Maoist Morons

I was scrolling through the Instapundit site the other day when this item grabbed my attention: “Biden is trying to enshrine ‘equity’ more deeply as a national policy.”

So I clicked on the link and wound up at the Newneo site, where I found the article of the same name, with contents just as terrible as the title indicated.

It seems that Biden is about to infect the U.S. Government bureaucracy with the full DEI treatment with a new executive order titled “Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities through the Federal Government,” which aims to racialize the executive branch using a three-prong strategy: “…creating internal cadres and power centers through the deployment of “Agency Equity Teams”; funding third-party political activism through grants to “community[-based] organizations”; and here is the most frightening part of this directive, “…weaponizing civil rights law by requiring federal agencies to use artificial intelligence in a manner that advances equity.”

Briefly put, the federal government is going to deputize AI to hunt down wrongthink throughout the executive branch and beyond. There are two other chilling aspects to this statement as well. Both remind this writer of Chinese Communist propaganda from Mao Zedong’s Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and early 1970s.

One is to create “Agency Equity Teams,” which are just Americanized versions of Mao Zedong’s Thought Propaganda Teams. These teams, government-approved gangs mostly made up of fanatical young Red Guards, were dispatched throughout China to terrorize reluctant Chinese into toeing the Maoist line. The other uses the term cadre, the old Communist name for government officials and commissars, the party’s ideological enforcers.

The impact of Mao’s dictates on China’s R&D sector was devastating. Universities were closed for a decade (1967-1977) and hundreds of thousands of scientific researchers were subject to harassment, exiled to the countryside to “learn” from the peasants, imprisoned, and even tortured for being too “bourgeois.” Think of it as America’s “Cancel Culture” times twenty. The only thing that saved China’s scientific research establishment from being permanently crippled was that Mao’s premier, Zhou Enlai, protected China’s early tech sector (nuclear weapons research, rocketry, and early computer research) from the madness that was engulfing China at the time.

Applying these types of antics, even in their mildest form, would wreck productivity at places like the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the FAA, FCC, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, NASA’s JPL, or any other government agency that requires genuine competence. This will play merry hell at DARPA (Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency), the Pentagon’s mad-scientist division, where craziness is a job requirement and conformity is to be despised. It may take a while, but it’s guaranteed that within a few short years, workers at the institutions mentioned above and elsewhere will only be allowed to parrot whatever the approved slogans of the day are. Real work and research will be pushed to the back of a very long bus.

I’m hoping that the current DEI madness won’t last forever. But even if there’s a Republican president in the Oval Office after January 20, 2025, it could still take a long time to heal the damage the Bidenistas’ DEI schemes will have inflicted on America’s R&D and regulatory establishments. And time spent recovering will be time lost when competing with the other major technological powers, especially China.

The president of the financially struggling organization I work for just announced that she will be creating a new position, DEI administrator.  It is not clear yet if this position is at the cabinet rank or at the director level.  The difference is about $50,000 a year in salary and the number of support staff that will be hired.  It will be interesting to see how much equity we will see in the months ahead.

    Salaries and wages

    –President                         $275,000/yr

    –Credentialed staff        Average < $55,000/yr

    –Support staff                  Average < $30, 000/yr

Also candidates for openings now must submit a diversity statement.

This might be a good thing.

The government bureaucracy is not populated with credentialed wanna bees like your local university. For the most part they are unionized rule followers who prize coloring inside the lines. And they like to go home at 5pm.

They are not “radical” in most respects.

Last year Scott Adams was cancelled by 77 newspapers for making fun of DEI in a series of strips. That’s  before the current go round.

Don’t forget  the fact that the recent Omnibus Budget passed by Congress and signed by Biden late last year includes 1.2  BILLION dollars in order to encourage news media and other media to report on equity and CRT issues in  the proper, liberal Left-approved manner.

Too late. All of this has already happened. Buden’s executive order is just formalizing a situation that already exists.

So will Biden demand equity in the NFL?  I mean teams like the Lions and Browns never been to the superbowl. Equity would demand that each team gets “fair share” of the superbowl appearances.

Here’s the big one that’s going to get us to Idiocracy:

“Both neurodivergent and neurotypical people are part of neurodiversity. Neurodivergent people have brain function that is different from what is considered common or neurotypical by Western medicine. This is problematic in that it sets neurotypical people up as “normal” and neurodivergent people as “abnormal,” but it is currently the way neurodivergence is understood.  ”

so… professions that once required high-performing , high-functioning individuals defining the minimal level of competence will, I bet in twenty years, be swapped out for the kids who skated by without doing their homework.

after that, it’s a 24-7 Soma and Adderall party!
