Excellent Hillsdale Online Courses

You can take online courses from Hillsdale College for free. They were recently promoted on a podcast on Ricochet. They consist of 10-12 lessons, about 30 minutes each, taught by their professors. There is a quiz at the end, so you can see if you got the material. Obviously they don’t cover all the material of the college course in the online course, but you can order the course books if you want a deeper dive. Best of all they are FREE!

I’ve done Introduction to Genesis, and now I’m doing Rise and Fall of the Roman Republic. Most of the courses are about history, literature, government, and Bible. They have 37 courses up now, and I think they plan to put all their core curriculum online for free.

I especially liked their courses on the racial history of America and both the Constitution courses,  Basic Economics, as well as the course describing the evolution of Congress. The only one I didn’t finish was the one on Genesis, because it took a Christian understanding (which differs in many ways from a Jewish understanding). I don’t begrudge them that approach; it is a Christian college, after all, and we are great fans of theirs. I highly recommend their curriculum, too.

I’m curious what you disagreed with about their interpretation of Genesis. I don’t recall that it was strongly Christian, but I’m sure there is stuff you would notice that I don’t.

I appreciate the recommendations – I’ll have to check those out next.

I saw it a long time ago. I don’t remember if the professor said anything about original sin, but Jews don’t believe in that. It could have been something like that.

    Thanks – that makes sense.
