Deck Us All with Boston Charlie
I can’t do a better Christmas wish than to steal this Walt Kelly card:
Published in General
Merry Christmas, Douglas.
Fantagraphics is reprinting all the Pogo newspaper cartoons, in high quality hardback editions with commentary. Eight volumes so far.
I loved the Sunday Pogo as a kid. Not really for the story but the artwork was fabulous and it was great to look at.
The lettering was clever, too, with different fonts to suit particular characters.
And I’ve got ’em all. Edited by Mark Evanier with introductions by various talented people who were influenced by Pogo.
I am not familiar with Pogo, but the leader of our church men’s choral ensemble had us sing the first verse of “Deck Us All With Boston Charlie” when we sang Christmas songs for a women’s luncheon (mostly older women).
I love Pogo and often use expressions I learned from the Pogo comics.
Merry Christmas and Rowrbazzle to you!
Same. A favorite at our house for decades was:
“Behold! How the Dog spruces up the welcome!”
[as the huge bloodhound flattens someone to give the face a proper tongue lapping]
Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year, Doug.
I think of you whenever the spouse kicks the DVD player in gear and we sit back to enjoy the Nero Wolfe series.
Kelly? Hm. Churchy is a girl’s name.
the best pogo line – “We have met the enemy and he is us”
Short for Churchill. Full name is Churchy la Femme.
