California Mother of 2 Beheaded

This unfortunate woman didn’t foolishly travel to one of those tragic regions of the middle east. She was on the sidewalk, near her own home, in the middle of the day:

A woman was beheaded Thursday in San Carlos, KRON4 has confirmed. She was killed in the area of Laurel Street and Magnolia Avenue at 11:50 a.m.

The woman was beheaded by a man with a sword. The suspect, an adult male, was detained and has since been placed under arrest for murder, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was 27 years old, KRON4 confirmed through a source. Authorities said the woman had two children; their ages were not disclosed.

San Mateo County authorities say the suspect and victim knew each other, and this incident is believed to be an isolated incident.

Isolated incident? Doesn’t that make you feel better? The perpetrator rarely beheads women.

All these isolated incidents are really starting to stack up. It seems that every major city is achieving new records in homicides, carjacking, and robbery. Criminals are so brazen, they even livestream their crimes on the internet. They have no fear of arrest, no fear of punishment … no fear of god, man or reason.

UPDATE: Jose Solano Landaeta, a former boyfriend of the dead mother, was arrested by police shortly after the incident for homicide, the victim has been identified by her family as Karina Castro.

One prominent example is actress Rebecca Schaeffer who was killed by a guy who she had never met until the day he killed her.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what is being discussed Here unless Yer advocating that women should have kids with losers and stalkers so that the losers and stalkers don’t kill Them.

Just the opposite. I was pointing out that avoiding having kids with stalkers, even never having met them, doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t end up killing.

Again; that has nothing to do with this story or thread.

Actually it does.  It’s a response to earlier comments about the lack of wisdom of women who get involved with crazy men.  My point is that not getting involved is no guarantee.

I may be straying too close to victim-blaming,

That’s where I was going with My comment above.

If You play with a lion and the lion mauls You to death, You bear some responsibility for Yer own demise.

Maybe it was a leopard, who changed its spots.

Of course, sometimes rebuffing those crazies leads to murder too. But it does seem less frequent.

“rebuffing a crazy” does not create a child.

Is this the sleep with dogs get fleas discussion?

No, it’s the don’t mate with primates discussion.

I did not intend to imply that not getting involved with crazy and/or evil men was a guarantee of safety. I was trying to say only that getting involved with crazy and/or evil men seems to increase the possibilities of bad outcomes.

But back to the actions of our evildoer. I presume that the law is clear in California that it prohibits intentionally killing an adult human. A court had apparently specifically ordered this particular man to stay away from this particular woman.  Yet he gets close enough to her to kill her with a sword.

Why should I have any confidence that I will be safer because I’m in an area signed or otherwise designated as a “weapon (or gun) free zone”? Why should I feel safer just because another law is passed restricting the possession of weapons? A specific order to this particular man did not stop this man from doing what was prohibited by that specific order (getting near the woman). What makes anyone think a sign or other designation prohibiting weapons would have stopped him from carrying that sword? Why does anyone think that a general law against, say, psychiatric patients possessing deadly weapons would have stopped him from carrying that sword?

Our evildoer here apparently has psychiatric issues and his behavior varied depending on the state of his medications. So maybe the situation would have been less likely to occur if some of the resources used for policing had instead been used to deal with his psychiatric issues. But how as a practical matter would such a use ensure that he stayed current on his medications and treatments? How much social services, psychological counseling, psychiatric intervention, and other alternatives need to be provided to successfully reduce the need for policing? Will the use of force be required to ensure the people at whom such alternatives are directed actually benefit from them?

With respect to the perpetration of a heinous crime of this magnitude, which is easier on the children’s psyche, a crime committed by a terrorist (s) or by a ‘family’ member?

Humans are primates themselves. What else do you suggest humans mate with?

Yes, this is my shocked face…

Completely predictable as soon as the media wouldnt publish any biographical data on the suspect.  I am still surprised he’s not a mostly peaceful be header. Perhaps there is hope yet that he’ll be punished  for ‘cultural appropriation’…

It’s a sad day when LatinX PoCs culturally appropriate from Arabian-Americans.

It was a multi-cultural appropriation. Apparently he used a samurai sword.

It’s time for common-sense sword control, starting with a ban on assault swords!

Yes.  Any sword with an edge as well as a point, and a handle with “guards” are already tightly controlled in England, and should be outlawed in the US.

Also, so-called assault kitchen knives.  And also assault salt shakers.
