Some of the Worst Democrat Congresspeople
…and their Republican challengers.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9). This woman is so clueless that she thought Ben Bernanke was a former chairman of Goldman Sachs, rather than the then-current Chairman of the Federal Reserve She was at the time a member of the House Budget Committee. Here are her current committee assignments.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). Following the 9/11 attacks, she had this to say about Osama bin Laden:
He’s been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities, and the people are extremely grateful.
Michelle Malkin, from 2009: “I’ll never forget interviewing her many years ago when I worked for the Seattle Times editorial board. We were talking about federal entitlement spending. I asked her about FICA taxes. She didn’t know what I was talking about; when I said “payroll taxes,” she still had a frozen blank look on her face.”
Murray has also shown herself to be a nasty bigot. When lobbying against a contract award for an Air Force tanker plane to Northrop Grumman, she said:
I have stood on the line in Everett, Wash., where we have thousands of workers who go to work every day to build these planes. I would challenge anybody to tell me that they’ve stood on a line in Alabama and seen anybody building anything.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-9). I first became aware of this reprehensible individual after seeing the incredibly arrogant letter that she wrote to textile entrepreneur Kathleen Fasanella (of the blog Fashion Incubator) in response to Kathleen’s attempts to call attention to the harm being done to many small manufacturers by the ill-thought-out CPSIA legislation.
There are plenty of other reasons to dislike Schakowsky. When Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to subpoena White House documents relating to the Solyndra bankruptcy scandal, she compared them to “birthers.” She has described Tea Party members as “radical hostage-takers.” And in an attempt to defend Obama’s suppression of the Keystone Pipeline project, that “Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs, and investing in green technologies will produce that and more.”
Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs?
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT). On at least two occasions, he misstated his military service record, saying or implying that he served in Vietnam–which he didn’t. He is in favor of social media throttling views of which he disapproves … at least as far as Covid-19 goes, but I doubt these speech-suppression beliefs are limited to or will stay limited to that domain. An investment fund managed by his wife’s family bought over $250,000 worth of Intel stock, three weeks prior to voting for a bill to subsidize semiconductor manufacturers.
The above doesn’t claim to be a comprehensive list of bad Dem congresspeople; just some whose bad attributes have struck me especially strongly. I’m sure there are many more who could be added to the list.
Here are the Republican challengers of the above Representatives and Senators, with links to their campaign websites.
vs. Marcy Kaptur: J R Majewski
vs. Patty Murray: Tiffany Smiley
vs. Jan Schakowsky: Max Rice
vs. Richard Blumenthal: Leora Levy

Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of the many foul people who are the “useful idiot foot soldiers” of the left – they aren’t top tier at anything but boy are they repugnant. Thanks for highlighting this.
This is a great list. One small quibble. Patty Murray is the Senator from the State of Washington.
Murray may not know that either . . .
Gary….thanks, fixed.
The major-contributor lists for these people are interesting:
Kaptur
Murray
Schakowsky
Blumenthal
Tomorrow, either Carolyn Maloney or Gerald Nadler leaves Congress.
Red Jan S. is a terrible person. But Il-9 is heavily D and it’s a real long shot to defeat her.
Marcy Kaptur: Toledo is big on fossils. The only reason she was elected is because Lud Ashley was ousted in the Reagan landslide in 1980. Ashley was a fossil who was praised by both GHW Bush (college buddy) and Ted Kennedy. He used to drive around in a red pickup truck…man of the people, dontchaknow. He was in office for 25 years before losing to Ed Weber, a one-termer. The Toledo democrats looked long and hard before selecting Kaptur, who was felt to appeal to both the large union membership in Toledo and the Polish neighborhood whence she came.
Toledoans by and large do what they’ve always done. They vote the way the union tells them, whichever union it is. Now that the district has been redrawn, perhaps Kaptur will be ousted, but I doubt it.
Jan Schakowsky: a communist with a felon for a husband. Ever since she succeeded Sid Yates (another fossil), her district has been tweaked to make it an even more guaranteed blue district. Five Thirty Eight has it at D+38. You want a gerrymander? Here ya go,
However, Max Rice is the real reason the commie will win. He is proof that the republican party in suburban Chicago is absolutely moribund.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Max Rice.
Here’s another one, though a challenger rather than an incumbent Congressperson: Mandela Barnes
(Wisconsin-Senate) Running against Ron Johnson
I’m visiting the Seattle area at the moment, and Patty Murray is scared enough to already be running fear porn ads on local TV stations. She looks into the camera and intones solemnly, “Nothing less than our democracy is at stake.” Sigh……
A textbook example of “win-win” . . .
I’m one of Jan’s 9th District hostages as well.
My favorite Schakowsky magic trick was using the Chicago (D) syndicate to finagle having hubby Bob Creamer take the entire rap for a check kiting scheme, which included a Federal Tax evasion charge, using the ill gotten gains to finance her first Congressional campaign for the (D) Primary… (since the general is always a (D) done deal win in the 9th).
The Schakowsky/Creamers pretended ditzy little wife Jan knew nothing about any Federal felonies which quite obviously benefited Jan, and some how Bob secretly stole the cash without Jan’s knowledge and then Bob took the fall for the felonies and did 5 months in Federal Prison in Terre Haute, IN.
So crime does pay as Schakowsky/Creamer’s little Fall Guy scheme worked out pretty well given Jan has kept the IL 9th Dirstrict Congessional seat since 1998.
Yes. It is very difficult to underestimate Patty’s intelligence, as she demonstrates daily.
As John Kass says, it’s The Chicago Way. I guarantee you most of her constituents have no idea who Creamer is and the rest couldn’t care less.
Put a (D) in front of their name in Chicago and it’s a win.
I’ve always assumed most traditional (D)’s had no idea what a communist Lefty nut wagon Jan Schakowsky actually is, however, in the last decade or so it appears I’ve been wrong all along, the IL-9th district obviously has a sizable majority of wokey Leftist true believers.
Once they extended the district down into Rogers Park, Edgewater and Uptown after 2010 its blueness was guaranteed. Everything north of Evanston used to be in the 10th district. And if anything, the population of Evanston has only gone hyper-woke in the last ten years… normal people have moved away.
I believe I’d put Murray at the top of the list. I see all those Democratic photo ops and she’s always standing off to the side with that same dumb look on her face.
And she’s been in the Senate since 1992. Go figure.
Yeah, the whole “Mom in tennis shoes” bit was cute. Made it sound like just a regular citizen stepping up to do her part, but 30 years in and what you have is an all out swamp rat.
It always impresses me when someone so incredibly unimpressive goes on to have a successful political career.
You look at someone like a Patti Murray, a Tony Evers, or a Debbie Stabenow who appear to have essentially no resume, no political charisma or likability, or really any credentials to fall back upon whatsoever …. and you think, if someone so unimpressive can become a successful politician then there is hope for every unimpressive young person out there today doing essentially nothing to impress anybody.
Check out my post Flipping Congressional Districts, Part 9.
For OH-9 Marcy Kaptur, it’s never been close historically:
That said, the voter turnout is low for this district, and it might be possible to recruit new voters.
The NRCC *has* targeted this congressional district.
For Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-9):
That congressional district has been D since 1929. And her hubby is a dem party guy.
Tor Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT):
By my calculations that’s the second most expensive congressional district to flip. ‘Not happening.
I mean, you could flip 25 other congressional districts for the cost to flip this one.
The closest challenger was Frank Venner, a TV news personality on the local NBC affiliate. In 2012, her challenger was Joe the Plumber. That’s Toledo.
Quite possibly. However Murray is legitimately terrible.
If only they could both lose…
Actually they both could lose, just not at the same time, in the primary.
Oh yeah, lots more.
So… why do you think that is?
