Quote of the Day: Golden Eggs

“In short, killing the goose that lays the golden egg is a viable political strategy, so long as the goose does not die before the next election and no one traces the politicians’ fingerprints on the murder weapon.” – Thomas Sowell

Sowell wrote this many years ago — in the 1990s as I recall.  The goose was still alive. Now? If not dead, it is dying. If it is not dead by November, it will be soon afterward. The ordered, safe life we have enjoyed since the fall of the Soviet Union is coming to a close.

Until this Administration ends we will be subject to runaway inflation, supply chain collapses, and shortages of all sorts of goods. Tampons and baby formula are just the beginning. Other, unexpected critical shortages are likely to follow.  This will be accompanied by high crime and the end of civil society.  Those running the country are too interested in what they can skim off for themselves to care about keeping the country running. The same thing is true in many major cities, especially those with Democrats in the Governor’s chair.

Will the November election change things?  Some, but not enough. The national government will still be in the hands of grifters and looters. (Thanks Never-Trumpers! You’ve bound us to a government by organized crime.) Even if we get the reddest of red waves, we are unlikely to be able to remove the current administration until January 20, 2025.

So prepare for a two-year siege of adversity — really three years, because it will take at least a year to undo the damage done. Stock up on food and medicine to protect against interruptions. Keep your assets liquid. Learn how to use firearms if you do not already know. Do what you can to put your local government — state, county, city, and school district — into sane hands. (It is even happening in San Francisco.) If possible move to a red state (or the reddest area you can in your blue state).

I am not saying quit your job, go off the grid, and prepare for doomsday. We need to do what we can to preserve civilization.  Running and hiding will not do that. What I am saying is you will need to develop the resiliency necessary to participate in that struggle. The old order is ending. What the new order will become depends on what we do.

I’m missing something. “The ordered, safe life we have enjoyed since the fall of the Soviet Union is coming to a close.” Seriously? Have you forgotten a little event commonly referred to as “9/11”. The calm of the 90s collapsed at that point and I would argue we’ve been on a steep decline towards anarchy ever since.

In my world it was the election of George W that brought out a great deal of craziness in the folks I know. The refusal to accept him as President was quite fierce. In the wake of 9/11 that abated for a time.  But only for a time, in some cases less than a couple of weeks.

I used to laugh at people who said stuff like this.

I don’t laugh as much anymore.

I agree with this. I’ve been writing for a few years that I think that the era of Western Civilization is probably already over. What comes next may be horrible, it may be great, or it may be something in between. But I think we’re beyond the point of trying to save what we had. It’s time to build what comes next.

I can’t believe I’m writing stuff like this. But it’s getting harder and harder to believe that we can salvage our civilization. We just spent 100 years trying to destroy it, and it appears that we’ve succeeded.

It’s time to build what comes next.

As usual, I hope I’m wrong about all this. And I hope that Seawriter is over-reacting.

I don’t think we are. But I sure hope so…

Interesting that you included a pic of Saul Alinsky……he was a favorite of O and Hillary – and O’s people are scattered all over the current administration as well as the WEF….

Alinsky? Common leftist trash. Behind him is the Zebra Lounge! Started out as a speakeasy in 1929.

I’ve been there. Liquor was legal then.

    I wasn’t.

The question is whether they can steal the next election. This country can’t be run from above, at least not as a super wealthy complex, middle class society and these people don’t understand that fact, and it is a fact.   All societies that have ever existed die as the top  rots, but they were’t, except for Greece, middle class places,  and we’ll reach our end faster than Greece.  Maybe  China’s attempt to dominate us will wake us up, but that’s unlikely for a variety of reasons.

I do not understand. On the one hand we are supposed to applaud no GMO food. On the other hand, we are supposed to eat meat that is synthetic?

It isn’t about the technology of genetically modifying organisms, or synthesizing meat, or any other “controversial” products. It is about control. Over you. Denial of your own choices in a free economy.

I still do not understand, Uncle Phil (Ha!), what did I do to make them dislike me so much? All I want is to be free.

I know the natural disposition of conservatism is to be pessimistic, so once again I am going off the reservation. I remember the Clinton administration changed direction when Republicans beat the pants off Democrats and ushered in Newt Gingrich’s Contract With America. Bill Clinton did not become a conservative, but he throttled back on the progressivism. Now I grant you, Joe Biden is a lot dumber than Bill Clinton. But Biden’s career has demonstrated than he is willing to change direction again and again, so I think a Republican blowout could change the administration’s course for the better.

Biden has nothing to do with it.

It is amazing what passes for optimism these days ;)
