Adam Kinzinger Beclowns Himself

From the moment Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger enthusiastically offered Nancy Pelosi his services in support of her hyper-partisan show trial (the January 6th Committee),  he has drifted ever further to the left, renounced his previous “principled conservative” positions, and metaphorically forsaken his Republican wingtips for a big red floppy pair of progressive clown shoes.

His effusive praise of the perjurer, Cassidy Hutchinson, is but one recent example. “Cassidy Hutchinson is one of the most brave and honorable people I know,” he gushed. Meanwhile, the brave and honorable Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony has been solidly debunked. The salacious story of Trump grabbing the wheel of the presidential limo was completely made up, she did not write the note she claimed to have written, she claimed to have had a conversation with another staffer who wasn’t even at the White House that day, and Trump did not order the removal of magnetometers outside his Ellipse rally to let in more of the crowd.  One can only guess that perjury and the admission of hearsay evidence are now congruent with the “rule of law” Kinzinger and his fellow Anti-Trumpers have been prattling on about.

Oh, and today, he denounced those who believed that faith might have a role in Government as “the Christian Taliban.” “We must oppose the Christian Taliban. I say this as a Christian,” he twitted. “Christian Taliban” is usually the sort of characterization of people of faith used by left-wing whack jobs. It’s possible to disagree with people who would like to see more faith in Government without using inflammatory language like “Christian Taliban.” So, why did he go there? Does he really think Lauren Boebert and other Christians want to stone women to death for adultery and throw homosexuals from the tops of tall buildings?

Also, a couple of weeks ago, he endorsed gun control. (And he also voted for the GOP’s gun control bill.)

And he’s become sufficiently left-wing to get invited to lefty late-night chat shows, where he promised that the hearings would be followed by more hearings, and then a final report, and then more hearings.

Kinzinger noted that the investigation will continue with a few more hearings and that the ultimate report released by the committee may call for an additional hearing or two. But he also left the door open for more hearings to be added

The man sure loves his hearings. He’s like a Dollar Store Trey Gowdy, who himself was a 5 Below Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

So, what’s really going on here? Since his new Democrat friends gerrymandered him out of his district, is he just showing his true colors and dropping the conservative charade? What about the rumors that he fancies a run for the Senate, or the governorship of Illinois? (Fat chance.) And is he gliding gradually to the left to try and pick off some suburban AWFLs?  He’s either showing us the real beliefs he kept hidden before, or he is changing his positions out of political expediency. Either way, so much for principles.

Or maybe Trump-hatred just baked his brain.

    Oh Bryan.

Aside from the fever swamps of the Right, Cassidy Hutchinson is fully seen as a credible witness whose testimony must be rebutted by sworn testimony, or it stands.   The genius of the January 6th Committee is that their most compelling witnesses are Republicans, many of them former members of the Trump Administration.

American Politics is played between the 40 yard lines.  Both the Wokesters and Trumpsters don’t realize this.  In 2018, the Trumpsters were thumped.  In 2020, Trump was thumped, while Republicans statewide won in Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin.  In 2022, the Wokesters will be thumped.  But the Wokesters being thumped will not mean Trump has been accepted.

At this point, more Republicans identify as “Regular Republicans” instead of “Trump Republicans.”  Expect that trend to continue.  DeSantis now beats Trump in New Hampshire, and as New Hampshire goes, so goes the nation.

While I have referred to the Trump Cult of Personality, I have never referred to Trump followers as cultists.

    You are confusing two notions.

There are religious cults, and their followers are cultists.

Then there are political cults of personality, ranging from dictators like Hitler, Stalin and Mao, down to the Obama Cult of Personality.  Trump is much closer to the Obama Cult of Personality, than the first three people mentioned.  And people who are extreme Obama or Trump followers are not “cultists.”

This is from Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality:

cult of personality, or a cult of the leader,[1] is the result of an effort which is made to create an idealized and heroic image of a leader by a government, often through unquestioning flattery and praise. Historically, it has developed through techniques of mass media, propaganda, the big liefake newsspectaclethe arts, patriotism, and government-organized demonstrations and rallies. A cult of personality is similar to apotheosis, except that it is established by modern social engineering techniques, usually by the state or the party in one-party states and dominant-party states. A cult of personality often accompanies the leader of a totalitarian or authoritarian countries. It can also be seen in some monarchiestheocracies, and failed democracies.

You do yourself no favors by clinging to an obviously fake testimony. It’s okay to say “Yeah, I hate Trump and want him to burn in hell, but this girl’s story is clearly false.” I give you permission to stand before the congregation and announce “I reject Pelosi and all her works,” while retaining your anti-Trumpism. Raskin absolutely, totally, dodged taking the opportunity for any defense of what they were doing.

I think the second to the latest VDH podcast has a really good description of what the committee is doing. The GOP needs to pay them back.

I doubt you actually know what a cult of personality is. Explain it to me.

This is from Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality:

A cult of personality, or a cult of the leader,[1] is the result of an effort which is made to create an idealized and heroic image of a leader by a government, often through unquestioning flattery and praise. Historically, it has developed through techniques of mass media, propaganda, the big lie, fake news, spectacle, the arts, patriotism, and government-organized demonstrations and rallies. A cult of personality is similar to apotheosis, except that it is established by modern social engineering techniques, usually by the state or the party in one-party states and dominant-party states. A cult of personality often accompanies the leader of a totalitarian or authoritarian countries. It can also be seen in some monarchies, theocracies, and failed democracies.

Now do irony and how it is a core trait of the dissident right.

*don’t think I didn’t notice that you still hid behind other people’s opinions and views in order to tell me you know what that is.

Hey, I am getting ready to drive 300+ miles to visit with my mother for a week after going to church. I just don’t have time for an extended conversation to explain a political cult of personality, other than to say that I have never called Trump supporters, including my sainted mother and my physician brother, “cultists.”

Trump doesn’t have a cult of personality. That requires state propaganda, which doesn’t exist. The only thing that you can point to that demonstrates a promotion of hero worship originates in a culture laced with memes and irony.

The only thing you have saying that there is this personality cult is your preferred pundits saying so without demonstration. And because you are chronically incapable of critical thinking skills, you swallow it as fact without thinking maybe they haven’t made their case.

Assertions without support are not facts just because you got tricked into believing them.

Cassidy Hutchinson is fully seen as a credible witness

She’s not a credible witness because she didn’t “witness” anything she spoke about.
