January 6 Committee Isn’t Reading the Room

The January 6th Committee has hired a professional media propagandist to add some Zing! Zang! Pazowie! to their televised proceedings on the very serious and not at all political work they are doing to “get to the truth” of the incidents on January 6th of 2021 at the US Capitol.

Congress’ committee to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol and then-President Donald Trump‘s role in it (known as the Jan. 6 committee) has tapped former ABC News president James Goldston to produce a primetime special dedicated to the hearing. According to AxiosMike Allen, Goldston has been “busily producing Thursday’s 8 p.m. ET hearing as if it were a blockbuster investigative special.”

Interesting that their tireless, relentless pursuit of “the truth” has not included asking a single protester, “Why were you there? Who told you you could go into the Capitol?”  These would seem to be salient questions a comprehensive investigation might ask. But instead, the investigation has been what every reasoning person predicted it would be; a partisan exercise to relitigate Trump’s impeachment. Oh, and push for elimination of the Electoral College to ensure no Republican ever wins the presidency again.

The January 6 Committee Investigation is a big deal to people who hate Trump and love the Deep State and the Status Quo. But it’s never gained traction outside that circle for a very good reason; the events of January 6 have not affected the lives of Americans outside the political class. Americans are contending with gas at $5 a gallon headed to $6. Americans are coping with an inflation rate far higher than the “official figures” claim. (The same dozen eggs that were $1.79 last year are $3.79 now. That is not an 8.5% inflation rate.)  Americans are coping with an outbreak of violent crime not seen since the 1990s. Public schools have become centers for indoctrination into racialist and sexually deviant ideologies. These issues matter more, no matter how many professional news jockeys the January 6th Committee hires to promote the conclusions of an investigation that were written before it even started. The Executive Summary of the Committee Report can be three words: Orange Man Bad.

The political/media class is horrified that Republican candidates are not being punished for supporting the January 6 protests.

As Congress prepares for a series of televised hearings on the assault starting Thursday, polls show the Republican party is on track to make big gains in midterm elections despite fielding candidates who embrace the false narrative of election fraud that fueled the riot and shun efforts to investigate the attack.

“The fact that it wasn’t a game-changing moment is pretty remarkable,” Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University presidential historian, said. “It’s historically pretty hard to believe.”

This media class was 100% in sympathy with Black Lives Matter and Antifa as they burned and looted their way through predominantly lower-class neighborhoods. A protest at the seat of the national government shocks and befuddles them. This time, it wasn’t “capitalist” businesses being looted, our bourgeoisie neighborhoods being burned.  This was a peasant revolt against their1 ruling class and it would not be tolerated or go unanswered!

Outside the detached and oblivious political/media class there may be an unremarked undercurrent of sympathy to the protesters at the Capitol. The US Government is widely and correctly viewed as corrupt, incompetent, and indifferent to the concerns of the people. This is, after all, a Congress that can come together to send $40 billion to a corrupt foreign country of little strategic interest to the United States, but couldn’t come up with $10 Billion to secure our own border. The January 6th Committee represents only the interests of an insular political class. It’s telling that they have reached out to their brethren in the media class to tell a story that deliberately excludes the concerns of the working class.

They’ll string it out until the mid-terms, then quietly let it die.

With any luck the new majority in 2023 will keep the committee intact and start asking some useful questions, all the while utilizing the same power and authority claimed by the current committee. Turnabout is fair play and all that.

The sole purpose of the Jan. 6 Star Chamber is to “get” and destroy Donald Trump, and anyone close to him who they can get their hands on.  They will not stop until President Donald Trump is behind bars, ruined, or dead.

I agree with the post story above and not reading the room was a great opening title. It wasn’t about Trump the person – it was how he handled the job.  He did many great things while in office, and we can all see, even those with a dimmed light bulb for a brain, can see what happens when an inept administration is in charge.

That being said, I think that both sides of the aisle had dirty hands, and too many “foreign” influences were allowed to drive the last election. It was one big giant mess.  Reading this story this morning did not help:

    https://thehill.com/news/campaign/3513985-email-shows-fake-trump-electors-in-georgia-told-to-conduct-plan-in-secrecy/

Separating truth from lies is all people are after and it seems it’s the hardest job of all.

They can do this with impunity in the Capital, which, as bad as it is, is the last democratic entity in Washington.  They know the broader population doesn’t like it, so are they uninterested in winning the next two elections?  They’re going to steal them and the relevant question is what do we do to restrain the theft and  prepare for it?

Democrats admit that the January 6 investigation was always about the mid-terms. And Cheney and Kinzinger went along with it.

“Jan. 6 Hearings Give Democrats a Chance to Recast Midterm Message,” reads the headline at the New York Times about the hearings—showing absolutely no shame that government resources are being used for blatantly partisan purposes.

“With their control of Congress hanging in the balance, Democrats plan to use made-for-television moments and a carefully choreographed rollout of revelations over the course of six hearings…to persuade voters that the coming midterm elections are a chance to hold Republicans accountable for it,” the report explained.

“When these hearings are over, voters will know how irresponsibly complicit Republicans were in attempting to toss out their vote and just how far Republicans will go to gain power for themselves,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the chairman of the DCCC.

Anat Shenker-Osorio, the founder of ASO Communications, a left-wing political consulting firm, says that the hearings will motivate Democratic base “surge voters” and “swing voters.”

You’d think that such a man would have the courage to stand up for himself. Reading who Adam kinzinger was, really makes me more and more disappointed in who that man is.

That really makes me wonder what is going on in DC that breaks people. What heinous thing did they set him up for and threaten to blackmail him over?

It’s actually to make sure that no Republican ever gets elected. That’s why this committee is talking about abolishing the Electoral College. “What does that have to do with January 6th?” you ask.

    Yes. What, indeed?

This committee is as illegitimate as “president” Biden.

If the J6 dust-up was a “threat to democracy”, why did Nancy Pelosi insist on *not* having National Guard?

    Didn’t Trump offer them up?

I love this line from that article:

Cheney thinks the committee will burn its credibility if it pushes for radical changes like abolishing the Electoral College

    Then there is THIS gem:

The big picture: Disagreements arise whenever proposals are raised such as abolishing the Electoral College, vastly expanding voting rights like same-day registration or tightening the Insurrection Act to make it harder for a president to deploy the military domestically for use on civilians.

As Mollie has said, having Adam Schiff on this committee delegitimizes it 1000%.

Having Republicans who are not selected by the Minority Leader does too

And the democrats are so grateful to these human shield republicans… They redistricted Adam Kinzinger out of his seat. I guess nobody really loves a traitor, even while they’re active in their betrayal.

The question is, why does he continue to dance to their tune? What’s in it for him? Or rather, what do the Democrats have on him? Live boy or dead girl?

Honestly, I think there’s a huge demographic shift going on nationwide, and because the Federal Government lives in this little bubble they’ve created and invited the media in, they’re the absolute last ones to realize that ‘business as usual’ is not a good option any more. I really think that most Democrats and Republicans in Congress or anywhere in Washington seriously don’t see what’s going on.

They’re doing what they usually do, and not realizing that many in America don’t care for what they usually do.

It might have worked if they hadn’t cratered the economy, and been exposed for what they do in schools, etc.

Remember, they have erected fences strung with barbed wire around the capitol.  They might actually know that they’re doing something different nowadays.

Going back, there have been a dozen cities, that each have had a dozen riots more damaging, more injurious and deadly, than the Jan 6 protest. Yet these riots have not had a single hearing – do democrats not care about these cities (that they mostly run)? Investigate the riots out where voters live to engage them. Nobody cares about Washington…

It was 38 cities in total during the May 31st to mid October 2020 season of peaceful protests.

Tens of billions of dollars lost.

Fatalities in the 200 to 400 range.

Dying while someone is hitting you with a baseball bat covered in barbed wire has got to be one of the least pleasant ways to die.

The survivors, that is, family and friends of those who died, had to live with the mockery of the legacy media blathering on about a need for people of color “to mourn.” (Never mind that more than half of those who died were people of color, many of whom died trying to save their storefront.)
