I Won’t Be at the NYC Bar Crawl … Serious FOMA

Back in 2016, I attended a Ricochet meetup in NYC. It was one of the first independent adult things I had done in about five months because this guy was taking up all of my time, and even more from my wife. I had a fabulous time and even got a picture with Rob, which for both our sakes, I will not repost. I did make a note of how much fun I had in this post.

Now, not only is Ricochet hosting a bar crawl, but James will be there as well!! And I can’t make it. (gnashing of teeth.)

Instead of meeting my podcast heroes, I will be coaching a little league game. This guy again. Which proves time really does fly. Hope everyone has a ball.

Hard to think of a better “excuse” for not making it.

We’ll miss you, Fightin’! But priorities… your boy’s got one heck of a Philly-fighting smile, and we’re glad you’ll be with him when hits his next homer.

    Next time!

Had I known that the Las Vegas meet up that had ricochet illuminaries at it was going to be such a one time thing and never ever be repeated I would have done everything I could to attend. It was I figured oh this might be something that happens once a year. Obviously it wasn’t. Meet ups have been almost exclusively the province of members.

I’d love to attend,  but fly to NYC? There is no way.

Should have gone to LV though. Would have if I had understood how separated the celebrities would become from the site.

@roblong has talked about Charleston before.  That would be a great place for a Meetup, and maybe we could lure him down here to SC . . .

Years ago we nearly had @roblong at a Philly meetup (of which there were two) but it fell thru last minute. I have not recovered. These events are truly a lot of fun. If anyone is on the fence, make the effort- you will find it worth your while.

    That I could do.

The problem is, the powers that be live in the ritzy coasts and we are in flyover country. Even worse, the deep south.

I cannot afford to take time off from my practice and then pay to fly up there. I work for a living. No swaning for me.

I am super jealous as well. I live in the  South. No way I’m going to NYC right now. I hope to meet these guys in person. Bring Peter Robinson too. That guy has a great voice. Wonder what mic he’s using?

Not to make you envious, but you totally, totally, missed out.

@jameslileks regaled us with amusing stories about foreign airports, and, (like the good WASP that he is),  @roblong  was apologetic about things he couldn’t possibly control (such as the rain forcing us off the outdoor deck & relocating us to the indoor bar).

… Imagine someone trying to organize a meeting of “Reason Magazine” libertarians, old fogies from “Ricochet”, and Young Fogies from “America’s Future”. Clearly, @roblong ‘s  experience as a showrunner served as good preparation  for this evening,  trying to organize a gaggle of wandering ducklings.

… Thank you, Rob; and thank you Ricochet.

I imagine we can wait another half decade for the next one maybe it will happen some place at a time I get to it.

I think on one of the podcasts I heard a mention about a Ricochet Meetup next month, not in New York. I can’t remember quite where, though

Well at least so far, L.A. doesn’t seem to be as bad as San Francisco.

It’s giving it a run for its money!  But I agree that it’s not quite as crazy. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s because there are more families with kids in LA.   Same with Seattle and Portland.  There just aren’t hardly any kids there anymore, so the govt isn’t catering to families and doesn’t feel a need to clean up the streets for a voting public of mostly childless adults.
