Wipe Your Feet, Mr. President

Back in the day, photographers enjoyed capturing Barack Obama with his feet on the furniture.

Conservative commentators rushed to compare Obama to Reagan, who famously always wore a jacket and tie whenever he was in the Oval Office.  Of course, those on the other side of the aisle dug through the photo archives to show other presidents with their feet up, including George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and Gerald Ford.  But consult your favorite search engine and the volume of Obama photos outstrips them all.

Obama was at the White House Tuesday.  I don’t know why, and I don’t really care. This time, however, he wasn’t photographed with his feet on the furniture, he had his feet on Joe Biden.

The pundits are all saying the same thing, that Joe is addled, slow, unwanted, ignored.  I saw something different.  I saw an arrogant and narcissistic former President egged on by everyone else in the room.

Still putting his feet where they don’t belong.  Wipe your feet, Mr. President.  You’re making a mess.  And Joe, if you don’t want to be treated like a doormat, get up off the floor.

If it were anyone but Joe, I’d feel a little sorry for him. He is being completely ignored in the presence of a Celebrity. In fact, Joe doesn’t seem at all sure of what is going on there or where he is.

I don’t like this because I respect and cherish our country.

Obama never did, and frankly Biden is sadly, profoundly. overwhelmed, and unqualified.

To quote Dr. Bastiat: we’re screwed

Obama was overwhelmed and unqualified too, but compared to Biden he looks like Trump.

I don’t like this, but I understand your perspective.

That said, without the least bit of racism, Obama wasn’t qualified to shine Trump’s shoes.

Probably the two dumbest presidents in the history of the U.S. But one came from Harvard and is black so likely gets graded higher. But even he knew how stupid Slow Joe was. What a country.  Just 2 years, 7 months to go. If we make it that far.

Maybe it’s because Obama is still the real President?   There was an interview with the ‘former’ President where he said that he wouldn’t miss the formalities of being President but if he could stay at home in his sweatpants while making  the decisions  and controlling the titular President like a video game character he’d be up for that.

    Not far from the truth?

One problem with asking Obama to wipe his feet, is that he tends to wipe his feet on the Constitution.

If I was President, I would never put my feet up on that desk . . .

I recall the comparisons made between Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan in terms of the respect they showed for the Oval Office and its use. I doubt that Clinton would have put his foot up on the desk in that manner. There must be a special circle of Hell for someone so lacking in respect for tradition, but, somehow, I am unsurprised.

Barack Obama was groomed and ushered into the White House with a minimum of preparation in the terms that all of it previous inhabitants had gotten. Having done almost nothing to earn the office, he had little or no respect for it or for the nation he was supposed to lead. His total lack of humility may have been seen by some as good quality leadership, but I have always believed that humility is an essential asset of real leaders. Even Trump, for all of his bluster, had a touch of humility. Obama’s arrogance is a product of a life that was spent having the way cleared for him by unseen forces. He never struggled, never had to do much of anything to gain advancement, and, so, he had no respect for those he stepped over on his way to the top. In that picture while he stands with his foot on the Resolute Desk, Biden is seen in the background looking, at least to me, more than a little uncomfortable at the sight.

I don’t like Joe Biden. He is, unquestionably, a creature of the swamp slime, but I suspect that he, at the very least, respects the office he serves in and inhabits, even in his current addled state. He tries to to maintain some minimal level of dignity appropriate to his office. Obama seemed to feel that it was his due. He, apparently, still does. His peacock display in that little celebration while The President wandered around nearly unacknowledged demonstrated clearly how little respect he had and still has for the office he once held.

All true, but I don’t think either Obama or Biden really wanted to do the job, they just wanted the title.  As you say, Obama never really had to work hard in his life, including college and the White House.  Biden is pretty much the same, even if he has some vaporous notion that the office he holds is actually important.
