Tom Brady to Retire from NFL (Update: Or Is He?)

After 22 seasons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and former New England Patriots) quarterback Tom Brady is retiring, according to ESPN.

He has won seven Super Bowl rings, the most by any single player in NFL history. He also holds the records for the most touchdown passes (624) and the most passing yards (84,250). This season, he was the leader in both touchdowns and passing yards.

Earlier in the week, appearing on his “Let’s Go” podcast with host Jim Gray, Brady used the word “satisfied” to describe his NFL career, which caught the attention of many who know a man who rarely was satisfied with his achievements. Brady cited his family’s desires as a heavy factor in his upcoming decision.

“I said this a few years ago, it’s what relationships are all about,” Brady said on the podcast. “It’s not always what I want. It’s what we want as a family. And I’m going to spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what’s next.”

Update: Then again, maybe he’s sticking around…

I don’t pay much attention to the NFL, but one would have to live in a cave to be unaware of Brady. Lots of people call him the Greatest-Of-All-Time, maybe with justification. Out of morbid curiosity I followed some of the comments made when his retirement was announced. I was surprised at all the negative comments bordering on hatred that, I suppose, come from petty, snot-licking losers who have never achieved anything at all in their lives. Those comments reminded me of the memes about Brady. One in particular stands out.

Question: How do you sleep knowing how many people hate you?

    Answer: Naked. With a supermodel.

I hope he stays until he’s physically not able to.  He won’t be happy if he leaves early.

    Just my two cents.

There has to be some satisfaction in leaving on your own terms. He retired from the game at the top of his game. The game didn’t “retire” him.

I believe that Brady is due some bucks from the Bucs in early February.  I doubt he wants to officially retire at least until then.

Tom Brady Autobiography Highlights The Highs And Highs Of Being Tom Brady

    12/09/11 4:00PM

FOXBOROUGH, MA—A new autobiography by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at the ups and even greater ups of being the three-time Super Bowl champion, sources confirmed Friday. “From the highest highs of winning two NFL MVP awards and marrying a Brazilian supermodel, to the more moderate highs of being a record-setting quarterback for the University of Michigan, this memoir is very personal and doesn’t hold back,” said Bryce Joplin, a representative from the book’s publisher, Hyperion, adding that Tom Brady: A Life Of Joy And Painlessness goes on sale Tuesday. “On the one hand, readers will see the side of Tom they already know from the football field—a good-looking millionaire who is constantly winning—but on the other, they’ll finally learn who Tom is off the field: a constant winner who is also a good-looking millionaire.” Brady was not available for comment, as he was eating filet mignon at the best steakhouse in Boston while waiting for a call concerning a $20 million endorsement deal with Rolex.
