The COVID 19
@oldbathos, in a recent post at the COVID-19 Trackers group, points out that obesity may be the biggest comorbidity for the Wuhan Virus. Here is the graph from that entry:
Over half of the people who are critically ill from the Wuhan Virus are obese (BMI of 30+) despite being only about 30% of the population.
The title of my post refers of course to the number of pounds that the average American has gained while being forced to remain at home due to the measures put in place to control the spread of the virus. Closing parks and gyms was probably the idiotic and counterproductive policy of all the idiotic and counterproductive polices forced on us by the public heath fascists.

I was thinking someone already did a post on this so I started looking. It was Deeble’s post. Truth or satire. You be the judge.
I’ve really gotta lose some weight.
You and me both.
We undoubtedly have the stupidest public health officials on the planet. I already included in one of my comments on another thread that our public health policies, including the vaccine mandate, have caused greater harm to the healthy population (those who likely would survive a bout with Covid-19 without enduring health problems) than the overall benefits provided those who needed help because of the threat posed by the virus. We can be sure that those at the top of this control structure know this and have supported these policies because of the increased control over the people that results.
For those not in the category of elderly, many have obtained their high Covid threat status because of behaviors that contribute to obesity. In addition to the lockdown on exercise facilities mentioned there has been little visible public health programs devoted to getting people to adopt healthier behaviors.
Because I really like my bacon and eggs most mornings I just got back from my daily walk (today 3 miles without a mask).
Obesity is also associated with hypertension & diabetes-and thereby coronary artery disease-as well as with sleep apnea etc. it probably isn’t just obesity in & itself- it carrys a lot of baggage with it. Many codependent variables that bode poorly for sepsis. Moreover, problems like sleep apnea lead to pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure- bad things to have when you get viral pneumonia. Some theorize a large number of adipose cells (+/- more ACE receptors) make COVID worse-but separating all the associated problems isn’t easy. No need to mention obesity is also associated with age- another risk factor for poor outcomes.
Isn’t the theory that obesity is the pathway to those other chronic bad health conditions?
Also, obesity is associated with low vitamin D levels. Good Vitamin D levels are associated with a good immune system. In obese persons the Vitamin D gets tied up in body fat in unusable form.
Bob! Bacon and eggs are health food! Enjoy. It’s the doughnuts that will getcha. And of course, keep walking.

If this seems too good to be true, take a look at photos of average people your age in the 50’s and 60’s when people ate bacon and eggs without worry and compare them to people in your neighborhood.
I know. I was just trying to get to some of those who think it’s not. I’m working on my 84th healthy year and I eat sausage, too. Often with grits and toast with butter and jam. Plus some orange juice. My favorite meal.
Everything! In moderation.
Somebody needs to do a big study on dietary (and by inference metabolic) differences in COVID outcome. Does it help explain why some (mostly rich) countries got hammered much more than some poor countries? I still want to know why Peru Bolivia and Ecuador had so much much more Lambda variant than anyplace else. Something distinctive about the cuisine or just the genetic/exposure history luck of the draw?
The post does capture the mild irony of a lockdown policy that not only was never going to work but probably teed up a few more people for a bad outcome.
Which is better: “I want it all! In moderation, of course.” Or “I want a moderate amount of things to eat immoderately.”
My opinion, the first.
Yes.
There’s always both. Occasionally, of course.
Eventually, their policies will induce weight loss. I expect ‘23 and ‘24 I should start seeing results from my communism induced diet.
Being funny are we?
It’s the carbs that get ya.
