Great Gig in the Sky
I recorded a piano version of this [edit: This is me playing Pink Floyd’s song “The Great Gig in the Sky,” from their earth-shattering 1972 album “The Dark Side of the Moon”]. Caution: The mastering is not mastered, so it’s a little fat, and while the attack at 1:39 or so sounds GREAT, it may be louder than you’re looking for. There are other flaws, but that’s fine. I’m happy enough.

We cannot embed audio at Ricochet (can you imagine the hosting costs once everybody decides to “self-host” podcasts in the general media folder?), so I’m linking to my moribund site, Lobster Forest. I also cross-link from there and will at some point cross-post, with priority given to posting here. But here is where the eyeballs are — and now ears!

Really nice. I didn’t know you played.
That’s beautiful! Who knew you had such talent. I enjoyed listening to it.
Thanks, ladies! Here are a couple more which are originals of mine:
Some stuff in an early stage (months ago, it’s different now):

Edited OP to clarify that the song title song is Pink Floyd — I didn’t write it. But I did write (if you call it that) the ones in comment #3.
Very nice BDB. I envy those musically inclined. Lot’s of work but lot’s of fun too, I’d imagine.
Nice.
Thank you! Absolutely about the work, but every stage is fun. I recommend it at any age. Playing an instrument is like controlling an access point to a different universe — which turns out to be internal.
I’m nobody’s musician — I can’t read staff and don’t care to. But I love it!
Thanks! I suppose it depends upon whom you ask whether I play or not. Do you know the original? One of my favorites — the whole album is just magnificent. Life-long learning kind of album.
Nice, man! Couldn’t resist singing along.
I handled the “I am not frightened of dying” part okay, but when I tried the Clare Torry I think I dislocated my left lung.
It happens. Press on!
Thank you. Believe me, I enjoyed playing it, in my limited style.
Well done. Both grandsons are taking lessons.
A tasty tune nicely cooked.
If I can imitate Gilmour’s Jedson close enough, maybe I’ll try to overlay the slide guitar on a new track. Doubt I’ll be able to, but it would be fun.
@bdb– you just made my day with that wonderful piece! Really enjoyed that!
Nice!
Gives me evil genius thoughts about a Ricochet virtual Christmas concert. I know we have some serious musicians around here (RushBabe and Ray, and Midge, when she was still around), and then there are those of us who tinker just for fun.
Cool!
The Italian pianist Massimo Bucci has some great piano arrangements of prog-rock classics. Here’s his rendition of “Firth of Fifth”:
Glad to hear it. Uh, so to speak.
Aw. Something went wrong at about 3:00. Or is it me.Reloaded page; it was me.
