The Seinfeld Republican Party
If you were counting on the Republican Party to retake the House next year (overcoming extreme and unapologetic gerrymandering by Democrats in every Democrat-controlled state and phony “nonpartisan” redistricting commissions stacked with Democrat operatives) and retake the Senate despite competitive seats in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Arizona being decided by the same junk-mail ballot processes as 2020) and maybe you were counting on that GOP Congress to turn things around after President Brandon’s first two spectacularly dreadful years… Well, don’t.
Mitch McConnell has told colleagues and donors Senate Republicans won’t release a legislative agenda before next year’s midterms, according to people who’ve attended private meetings with the minority leader.
They aren’t going to secure the borders. They aren’t going to repeal and replace Obamacare. And they most definitely are not going to control spending or repeal any of Biden’s spending. McConnell says his strategy is for Senate Republicans to promise nothing, and let the House Republicans do the heavy work of setting the agenda. We saw how this worked out under Obama. The Republican Senate only passed House legislation when they knew Obama would veto it. Such will likely by the fate of the “Parents Bill of Rights” House Republicans are touting. Meanwhile, they cut budget deals that gave Obama everything he asked for and more.
Like Seinfeld, the Republicans are a party about nothing. Republicans have finally wised up that the only way to avoid accountability for breaking promises and betraying voters is to not make any promises in the first place.

So your position is that Trump has been healthy for the Republican Party? Let’s look at the 4 Republican Presidents who were twice nominated, and to make it easy, let’s look at the overall popular vote. Trump lost by 10 million votes. Both Bush’s won by some 3 million votes. And Reagan won by 25 million votes. It is only due to the Electoral College that Trump won in 2016.

Insults against Ricochet members can be grounds for suspension.[redacted for rudeness]
You conveniently left out that George W. Bush lost the popular vote in 2000.
These are net figures. W lost his first popular vote and HW lost the second popular vote. But they netted out at about 3 million votes each.
I also thought of Buckley’s Boy Scout.
In other words, you are manipulating figures in order to fit your narrative.
Well, it looks like some of my special friends decided to drop in and to transform an otherwise good post about the future of the Republican Party into personal attacks. What a pity.
You’re accurate, but I’ll bet that Gary won’t like what you said.
The only part that’s about you is the pushback you receive. The thread was going fine.
When I simply pointed out facts about redistricting, several people saw fit to attack me personally. That is a hijack of the otherwise fine post. This is compounded by the fact that this post is in the Main Feed and thus we are airing our dirty laundry for the world to see. I don’t think that that is a good thing.
You knew what this post was about when you came in here. Command the tide not to rise and get wet.
EDIT: You’re not alone in culpability. But defending NeverTrumpers against Trump supporters ain’t my business.
Are you saying that I should not comment on any issues? I respectfully decline to be cancelled.
What ever happened to saying that I disagree with what you say, but will defend to my death your right to say it. I am the canary in the coal mine at Ricochet.
Counselor, you have no shortage of well-written posts. My issue is not that you engage in the push and shove, but that ye doth protest about it at times. Look at your front page post collection (IIRC), compare it to others, and perhaps reconsider claims that you are somehow “cancelled” by the efforts of your detractors, among whom I sometimes number.
I just commented on how I am pleased about Jussie Smollett being convicted only to have someone argue about a satirical suggestion that folks upset about the Capitol Breach riots should start a “go fund me” campaign.
It feels like if I were to comment about apples, someone who criticize me for being prejudiced against oranges. Give me a break.
No breaks for you!
Yes, yours is a tough road. You can wear it proudly as a badge and remind us of it from time to time.
That would be measured in months or years, @garyrobbins, not minutes or seconds. Just to clarify expectations.
There is nothing that can be done about this. It would cause a depression.
You are against the orange man, after all.
;)
Clearly, Trump never had the House and Senate (and most of the Executive Branch). The corporatists and statists are firmly in control and will take a lot of work to dislodge them.
The GOP needed a new coalition. If you can remember way back to 2012, the DNC had built a permanent winning coalition. He single-handedly changed to the GOP coalition to pull in working class folks, Hispanics, and men that don’t vote (all races). This is a winning coalition and will dominate in honest elections.
You might think that some variation of Mitt Romney can appeal to a enough Karens to win, but that ship has sailed. Karen likes lockdowns and CRT and abortion access as much as she likes her “Iced White Mocha”.
“Working class people, Hispanics, and men that don’t vote.” – Or, as Hillary and the Never-Trumpers think of them, deplorables.
One recurring theme you see among NeverTrumpers like French, Kristol and the entire crew of the Bulwark, and most recently David Brooks is their scathing contempt for the working class. Also demonstrated by Kevin Williamson, of course. They don’t want those dirty deplorables as part of their coalition. They want to win over suburban wine moms.
By the way, “No breaks for you!” was a Seinfeld reference (remember the OP?) which nobody got. I’m not yelling at you.
No soup for you!
