Notre Dame Cathedral Gets Disney Makeover
Some plans have leaked for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral (you know, the one that was hit by a devastating fire that in no way symbolized anything). They call for removing confessional boxes, altars, and classical sculptures and replacing them with a light show of scriptures projected on the walls, modern art murals with more sounds and light to create “emotional spaces,” a “discovery trail” of 14 themed chapels with an emphasis on Africa and Asia, and an environmentally-themed chapel. I am not making this up.
Some critics see this as desecration of a sacred space. On the other hand, if the goal is to gut the place of items of religious significance and replace them with trendy performance art, a lecture on diversity, and an altar to Gaia, I think they’ve absolutely nailed the Roman Catholic Church in the 21st Century.

Yecch!
And that applies both to the proposals for Notre Dame, and the Daily Mail web site. Both are disgusting.
I’m sure Pope Francis, along with his Purple Vatican Mafia, will bless this new approach. So it must be done.
We wouldn’t want memories of the true Catholic faith and it’s sacraments to deface our new Disneyfied Notre Dame. Too many tourists will object to all that religious stuff you see.
I was thinking the same thing about Francis. I would be very surprised if he disapproves, and shocked if he intervened to stop it.
Is nothing sacred?
Notre Dame can be changed at will, but just try to remove the great historical landmark of Pittsburgh’s Liberty Tunnels Fanhouse, or even repurpose it and get a big roadblock from Environmental Procedures. It is the centerpiece of @she ‘s old neighborhood. Even talking about changes in a DOT meeting (not a public meeting) subsequently required a supplemental agreement to be made with the design consultant and a study to be submitted for Environmental Review. I was there. This is not something that gets to the news papers.
Glad I saw it multiple times before they ruined it. Idiots did the same thing to the exterior of the Louvre. I. M. Pei has much to answer for.
I saw the news article and it made me sick to my stomach.
I think you nailed it . . .
There have been some disastrous architectural decisions over the years concerning both Catholic and Protestant churches. Cathedrals, and churches that have beautiful traditional exteriors, and then the interiors have all the warmth, and charm of a former East German railway station waiting room.
That doesn’t count the mega-churches that are no more than an auditorium to entertain worshippers in the same atmosphere featured in “America’s Got Talent”, or “American Idol”.
I live in a converted church, with big stained glass windows. The church I attend can best be described as “functional,” and the interior is colored a “Good Lord what were they thinking” shade of green. I understand the impulse to keep a place of worship modest, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be pretty.
I’m sure I’m out-moded, but I will never attend a church that features a guitar.
It’s the Lavender Mafia. Purple is sacred.
Wait until the elite plebes learn that the geometry and architecture itself is sectarian and sacred. These people didn’t erect thousands of tons of stone for the heck of it.
You can’t trust anyone anymore.
This is loosely connected under the tent of religion but specifically moral compromise to Marxism. I almost posted that the Salvation Army was being reported as asking white donors this season to “Repent” for their Systematic Racism a few days ago, then it seems more has happened; they got pushback and half apologized. Now there is grassroots reaction as the story spreads:
