Scratch a Leftie, Find a Lizard…
Back in the day (early 1980s) when Mr. She’s and my love was young; when I was a fledgling IT support chick, and he was an assistant professor of English; when the only house we could afford had a scenic view out the bedroom window of the exhaust vents from Pittsburgh’s Liberty Tunnels; when the neighbors consisted of motorcycle gangs (mostly righteous), drug dealers (not-so-much) and dog-fighters (the scum of the earth); we had very little money and could not afford much in the way of entertainment. And so we found what we could for free, up to, and including, what was on offer on network television. We and the kids enjoyed, among others: The A-Team, T.J. Hooker (Shatner in what might have been his first post-Star Trek engagement), Hunter, and Miami Vice.
But pride of place, at least for a couple of years, might have been given to the campy-from-the-start, rather over-the-top even for the time, 1983 television series “V.”
Lizards have emigrated, from another galaxy, and arrived on earth. They look exactly like us, and, as the episodes progress, they become more and more integrated into our culture and society. They need something from us, and so they become more friendly and accommodating, and are widely accepted, until a small group of “Resistance” fighters figure out what’s going on, and form a bulwark (apologies) against the encroaching occupation and supremacy of the “V”isitors.
Truth be told, I don’t remember a hell of a lot of the plot. There was an exceptionally good and kind male lizard, a vituperatively evil Queen SheLizard (Diana), and a girl who gave birth to a half-human/half-lizard baby. I can’t remember what happened to it, or if the series (mercifully) was canceled before we could find out.
What I do remember, and what became a metaphor for my family from that point forward was the definitive test for lizardness. Simply wound a creature, and see what color it bleeds.
Lizards bleed green. (A metaphor there, methinks.)
Today, we have the horrifying events in Waukesha, WI. A matter on which (one might think) we can all agree.
And yet.
Here’s this woman–an Illinois Democrat party operative–and what she had to say about it:
What an absolutely disgusting excuse for a human being.
I see she’s resigned her commission with the Democrat party. Not a moment too soon.
You don’t need to inflict a lethal wound. All you need to do is scratch a bit. And remember.
Lizards (on whichever side–and there are some on both) ALWAYS bleed green.
Watch out.

It its really tribalism.
Human beings instinctively don’t want to hurt fellow humans and feel pain when fellow humans are hurt by others. The catch is, for most of history, “human” mean “our tribe” and those other beings over there who look sort of like us, clearly are not.
The Left has embraced tribalism, and thus, this sort of thing is reasonable to them. Saying they are like aliens is very apt.
At least in the 2009 reboot the lizards had a hot leader-Morena_Baccarin
Yes, I watched that too, for old times sake. Seriously muddling. Formerly evil QueenVisitorBee Diana was (IIRC) Morena Baccarin’s mother.
V was originally a two-part miniseries that got a sequel miniseries the next year, and then picked up as a full series for two seasons.
The original miniseries was really good.
The rest? Not so much.
I remember them showing that half-lizard baby, and the nice guy lizard was played by Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Yes. Willie! That was him. Or “he” as the grammar nazis might more properly have it.
The current grammar Nazis would insist upon the singular “them.”
Man, I was expecting something about EThompson, aka the Lizzard aka Ricochet’s (and Ratburger’s!) Cruella de Ville.
It’s ironic that the only reason Mary can be so incredibly heartless on Twitter is that the Right is not like the Left. She doesn’t have to worry about them doxxing her.
Jane Badler as Diana was perfectly acceptable to me at the time, I have to say.
Even her cameo as Morena’s mother in the reboot showed that evil lizard women only get more alluring with age IMHO.
There are a lot of people whose political activism is inextricably tied to the pleasure they get out of being able to act cruelly while feeling virtuous. See my post Conformity, Cruelty, and Political Activism.
See also Milan Kundera on Circle Dancing.
For someone who believes in karma, she is oblivious about what is circling around to bite her in the behind based on her vile comments.
Jane Badler was MORE than acceptable for me at the time, I don’t have to say, but do.
FWIW, between Star Trek and T.J. Hooker, Shatner had another series that only lasted half a season, Barbary Coast, which Jr. High me thought was great. The Shat and Robert Culp played a Treasury Agents in Old West San Francisco. It was kind of an updated Wild, Wild West without the gadgets, but Bill had the Airtimes Gordon role of the Master of Disguise. I thought it was great and I’m not about to look it up on Youtube to see how wrong I was.
In one respect, at least, Lizards are just like Vultures:
Ah, wisdom detector buzzing. “YouTube: We’ll Crush Your Childhood Memories”
I remember the original miniseries, and have long thought that “carnivorous space lizard pretending to be a human being” was a good explanation for Clinton, Pelosi, Schiff, and many others.
IIRC the show had some Earth humans who knew what the “visitors” were and collaborated for protection and goodies.
Of course you are not making any claims about the Establishment GOP.
Crimenutely. Mary Lemanski has responded to the blowback from her deranged Tweets. As follows (edited for CoC):
OMG. She’s blaming her mother for her poor choices and the fact that she’s exposed herself as a nasty [expletive] (“rhymes with rich,” to quote a former First Lady of the United States).
At what point does a person stop blaming his or her personal circumstances for appalling behavior–be it immoral, cruel, mean-spirited, indecent, vicious, or anything else–step up to the mark, suck it up, and start behaving like an adult?
I guess, never, if you’re part of the Lizard Community.
It’s called “accountability,” Mary. Something you’re very insistent that others should live up to in their lives. You should try it yourself, sometime.
PS–looks like that entire Twitter account has been deleted, and she’s started a new one. “Never Mind.”
That is modern America.
Even though I only watched a couple episodes of the show, I happen to recall the baby was named Starchild. I know this because I have an aunt who named her only child after that character. I kid you not, I have a cousin named Starchild.
As to Mary Lemanski, haven’t Illinois Democrats been blaming violence in their state on neighboring states for years? I guess she has really taken her disapproval of Wisconsin to extremes.
This is much less shocking than…
…this.
Whoa.
I remember at the time, the male lead (Mark Singer?) was interviewed and he said that 1/3rd of any population resists, 1/3rd goes along to get along, and 1/3rd collaborates. I’m not sure how very accurate the sound bite was but is sounds close enough.
That is accurate as far as the American Revolution goes.
