Quote of the Day: Perhaps
‘Do something everyday that you don’t want to, this is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your duty without pain.’ – Mark Twain.
‘Believe you can and you’re halfway there.’ – Theodore Roosevelt.
‘The only man who never makes mistakes is the man who never does anything.’ – ibid.
Perhaps the release of pain when doing something we don’t want to is in the choosing to do it. Perhaps half the difficulty is lifted in choosing to believe we can do something. Perhaps a lot of the rest can be removed in choosing to not let the mistakes we naturally make along the way sting so much.[1]
Perhaps.

“Everyone should eat a live frog first thing every morning, to insure that nothing worse will happen to you all day.”–Mark Twain
It’s good Twaining.*
*: Though the frog might object.
This goes directly with my belief that every young person needs to have at least one really crappy job, so they can spend the rest of their lives being happy they don’t have to do that anymore.
Any of my boys was likely to respond to a suggestion that they take on an unpleasant task with “Do something you hate. It’ll build character.” Which was a pretty good paraphrase of what they’d heard their old man tell them a great many times, when sending them out to find a wandering cow or fix the fence on a miserable day.
Every one of them is a fine worker today. Not a one of them raises livestock.
Yeah. She said upon emerging (for just a moment) from the unplesant task of priming the bathroom walls prior to the finish coat of paint.
Character-building indeed.

If the frog didn’t object that would worry me.
