Young Professional Athlete’s Reaction to Vaccine

I watched the following video posted by Kyle Warner, a professional mountain bike racer from Utah who has won numerous races and awards. He is obviously very physically fit, and displays a very positive outlook and spirit. He makes his living in the racing world, as well as providing instruction through online videos. He describes, in the following video, not feeling right after the second COVID vaccination injection. About two weeks after, he began to experience heart issues that sent him to the emergency room. The doctor on staff told him he was not having heart issues, but an anxiety attack. He was made to sit in the waiting room for several hours and also told to make an appointment with a psychiatrist.

He left, and continued to have the same heart issues, along with other symptoms that he did not have before, such as arthritic pain.  He is 29 years old.  He was in a grocery store when he had another episode and went to a different hospital, where he was indeed diagnosed with myocarditis.  This is one reaction that has been reported by many.  He decided to get the vaccine in order to be able to travel, both domestically and internationally to compete, and now he struggles with an escalating heart rate with little movement, arthritic-like pain concentrated on past injury areas, and has had to stop competing for now.  Interestingly, he was given Ivermectin, one of the anti-viral drugs that have been discouraged by the medical profession due to pressure from the CDC, and the government. He said that medicine brought his symptoms down almost immediately.

When he shared his story online, others shared their stories, with some remedies that have helped them, which he has tried and he talks about.  He remains positive, amazingly, and is trying to regain his health and life back.  The Biden administration’s vaccine mandates have caused many to lose their employment, including front-line workers in law enforcement, the medical profession, border patrol, and pressure on large companies to demand vaccination.  My sister-in-law, a home healthcare nurse, was encouraged, but declined the shot. It was still an option.  It’s been two years since COVID hit the world, and she has remained healthy, even while treating COVID patients. She is tested weekly and there have been no issues. Now they have to be vaccinated – no longer a choice.

I write this because people are being forced to do something they do not want to do with their own bodies.  The side effects are not being tracked, alternative thought and certain medications have been withheld in some cases, and never before has any drug been ordered by any government, especially in a free society, under these conditions.  The side effects are not fully known, but they are coming to light.  Yet, these drug companies are not held responsible if someone has a reaction.  You cannot sue, like with other medications that have caused reactions, and have even been removed from the market, due to even less side effects.

Tracking and health passes are another story that carries as much concern as these adverse reactions that are going un-reported or banned.  Those who have had COVID, and now carry natural immunity, are also being forced to get the shot in some circumstances. This information is all the more troubling now that the new goal is to inoculate children, who hold the lowest risk of all.  It’s a terrible virus, and the treatments that have been discovered to work, are not being given priority.  The U.K. has even had success with a COVID pill that is given as treatment.

It is beyond bizarre when we hear world leaders say that the only way we can feel “safe” is for the entire world to be inoculated. Most people are not anti-vaxxers, a stupid label that has been slapped on those who question this particular vaccine, and this false label has caused division in our country and the world.  Most have received many vaccines throughout their lives, including starting at the grade-school level.   We should be able to talk about this and have a national, civil discussion on any forum without censorship, and a reliable side-effects tracking system should be in place by now.

Whenever someone opposed to mandates refers to a story like this, the opposition says, “Well, it’s merely anecdotal evidence of a problem.  The statistics show the vaccine is okay.”

The issue I have with this goes back to (I believe) Stalin, who said, “One death is a tragedy.  A million deaths is a statistic.”

Granted, I feel for individuals who’ve lost a love one to COVID.  However, despite the large number of deaths, I think it’s time we get society and this country back to normal.  If people decide they don’t want to take the vaccine and risk becoming an anecdotal story to their loved ones and a statistic to the government, then leave people alone.  Let them make their own decisions like adults.

This is the problem.  I can decide to take the vaccine and be responsible for making that decision.  I got the moderna in March and April by my choice.

To me such an anecdote is unfortunate but not at all persuasive.  There will always be a few bad reactions, or suspected reactions.  It doesn’t deter me.

We live in a free country.  Mandates from dictators are not the American way.  If you don’t want to take a vaccine, that’s your business.  If you get the disease for failure to take the vaccine, that’s your problem.  If I get a bad reaction because I took the vaccine, that’s my problem.

It is not supposed to be the government’s problem.

We used to understand freedom.  They are intentionally erasing the entire concept.

    POST HOC ERGO PROPTER HOC

Now, I’m still not close to convinced that COVID is a big enough problem that vaccination must be made mandatory.  I’m also not convinced that it was necessary for the Trump administration to waive the normal FDA drug approval requirements in order to get vaccines to market as quickly as possible.  From all the statistics I’ve seen, the death rate in 2020 simply wasn’t far enough above baseline for me to consider it a genuine crisis.  Rather, the increase in mortality for 2020 seems comparable to the 1968 Hong Kong Flu.

That being said, I need much better statistical evidence before I’m persuaded that the vaccines are actively dangerous.  Data is not simply the plural of anecdote, and even accurate statistics can be misinterpreted.  For example, did you know that in 2019 more than twice as many people got polio from the polio vaccine (361) than did those who got it from the polio virus “in the wild” (175)?  Does that make the polio vaccine more dangerous than polio?  No, because without the vaccine the total number of people getting polio would be way higher than just 536 people per year worldwide.

Just to start with, I’d need to see statistics about how many athletes get myocartitis in a normal year, and how that number compares to the past two years.  When I was in my 20s I had two friends, both high-performance athletes, who died of sudden cardiac arrest. This is something that happens not completely infrequently among young athletes.

(In fact, now that I think of it, both my friends were competitive BMX and mountain bike cyclists.  Maybe its competitive off-road cycling that should be banned?)

In short, I agree that the establishment has nurtured an unnecessary panic about COVID that isn’t supported by the statistics about the disease, but the solution is not to create a competing panic about the vaccine without supporting statistics.

Yes I remember that one. I remember Pres George Bush 41 rolling up his sleeves and encouraging everyone to get it – I did. But it was never a mandate or a reason to not travel or lose your employment.

    a) That’s not a supporting statistic.

    b) At the time, did conservative journalists praise the FDA for protecting American lives or did they criticize the FDA for being too cautious?

I find that right-wing journalism has a tendency to flip-flop back and forth on how it reports on the FDA depending on things like which party is in power in Washington and/or how their viewers/readers feel about a particular disease at any particular moment.

Thought experiment: If Donald Trump was still president, how would the right-wing media be reporting on the vaccine?  He was praised to the hilt by the right-wing press for “cutting through the red tape” to get the vaccines developed and approved ahead of schedule and demonized by the left-wing press for “putting American lives at risk”, and then once the White House changed hands the tone of the reporting flip-flopped completely.

I don’t often criticize our side, but the way these vaccine stories in particular (and health stories in general) are reported by both sides over time really sticks in my craw.

The difference is that President Trump would allow, encourage and stimulate alternate options.  You want ivermectin? go for it. Rendesivir, Heck Yes!  Inhale Peroxide or bleach,  Why not! (just kidding for you few who might be paying attention…) Would he create a mandate for pokes and Masks?  No way in hades.  The media would attack him as they did every day, and occasionally someone would stick up for him, as they occasionally did.

By the way does such a thing exist anymore that deserves to be called  “right wing media”?

It’s kinda brilliant though, isn’t it?  Get the conservative president to have the vaccine created quickly – something the Left could never do – and then replace him with a Leftist president who will insist everyone must take it:  something the Right would never do.

Trump did the best he could with what information and resources we had at the time. That included restricting travel from China while Nancy Pelosi called it racist and walked the streets of Chinatown. He tried to pull every sector together, regardless of politics, to work together to provide relief, including competing companies and corporations. We could not get accurate, honest information out of China, and still can’t. He cut through the red tape and provided supplies to anyone that asked, even though Bill Gates and others war-gamed a potentially lethal pandemic two months earlier – called Event 201.

    https://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/news/center-news/2019/2019-10-15-event201.html

This was a regular event, and those that should have prepared our country better, didn’t. Even hospitals and local governments had to dust off their emergency plans and were very short of supplies.  With all the big names at this event, why was no one prepared?

If Trump was president, he would not mandate vaccines, and would not block any treatment, including experimental, if it worked. He would also not allow our country to fall into an economic tailspin, or beg OPEC for oil, or allow a supply chain crisis. For any faults you may have with his presidency, I believe he would have made options available, while supporting those critical workers (and all workers) who would not have to choose between a shot and their livelihood.

I lost the ability to smell and taste, so food, which was important to us, has lost my interest.  My wife still has superior taste and smell so I have to try to cook.  Im 82 so felt I had to get the vaccine, but I don’t know.  My grandchildren will not.  They will gradually develop immunities as they grow up and this and other diseases constantly attack them.    If the Federal government Democrats and some state governors insist, we have to fight and if we can’t win, we have to fight at the local and city level.   If we can’t win without personal cost, we have to help each other and if we lose the next elections we have to form a new Republic.   These people are totalitarian and their totalitarian state  won’t be turned over.  It’s final, even without the Chinese.

Very interesting update on the vaccine mandate:

“A federal appeals court suspended the Biden administration’s new vaccine requirement for private companies, delivering a major blow for one of the White House’s signature attempts to increase the number of vaccinations to corral the pandemic.  The decision was issued by a panel of three judges appointed by Republican presidents in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The judges wrote that there was “cause to believe there are grave statutory and constitutional issues with the mandate,” staying the order while the court assesses it in more depth.”      from The Wash. I suspect it won’t help people in some companies.  Just like universities created kangaroo courts based solely on a “dear colleague” letter and no law whatsoever, government contractors see the handwriting on the wall and they will enforce the diktats of the white house handlers regardless of what any court says.  The court may say it can’t be required, but the contractors know it still will be if they want contracts.

We need a critical mass of companies to tell the White House to pound sand.

This White House is deliberately destroying the country and harming the people, physically, economically, materially, and psychologically. No matter how unpopular it is they forge ahead. A million dollars each for immigrant families? That’s sure to anger every citizen, but nope, China Joe says he’s all on board. Shutting down more pipelines up north just when we need heating oil for the winter? Who cares if people can’t afford to heat their homes and they freeze to death. China Joe says shut ‘er down!

Systematic destruction of the country. Even China Joe isn’t so stupid. So obviously whoever is actually running the country wants every left-wing wish granted regardless of what the citizens thinks, and whoever it is knows they’ll never face consequences.
