The Real Problem Is: We are Losing
Anyone on the right can look back at the last 50 years and see the long string of losses to the left. They have set the agenda and they have set the direction. A Republican made nice with China and took us off the gold standard. While Reagan won the Cold War and cut taxes, everything else on the domestic front went the Left’s way. Bush and Clinton both raised taxes. Deficit spending has been the way of the nation in almost every year I have been alive. We no longer need any sort of war to spend and spend. Each President of the last generation more than doubled the previous president’s debt.
The Left controls all the big companies, all the universities, and thanks to the administrative state, they write all the new rules that are effectively laws. From Sea to Shining Sea, the Left has moved from victory to victory, and the Right goes from defeat to defeat. I will admit we have made progress on guns, but that looks to be a lot less safe a win for the Right, than say Obamacare was for the Left.
Who do I blame? Conservatism, Inc. for signing on to the Globalism vision. We are now dependent on China, an avowed enemy, for too many vital goods and services. We have gone from a nation of manufacturing to a nation of service employees. We are losing the Republic and we are losing against China, which will soon eclipse us in every way possible. I expect my children will be my age in a world dominated by China.
Of course the people at Conservatism, Inc. will long be dead.

This I think could gain political clout with a student debt jubilee (or re-enstatement of student loan bankruptcy) and moving student loans back to the private sector (no more federal backed loans or guaranteed loans).
You are both right. However, things can get much much worse ( and they will ) and eventually the end times will come ( and they will ). Not for me to know , and God seems to operate on his own timescale.
That’s why I am generally uninterested in arguments about creation or Revelation. Beginnings and Endings are all clouded in mystery and I’m perfectly fine with that.
Walter Williams frequently raked Reagan over the coals for this.
yep
While their descendants will still be wealthy from the inheritances brought about by selling the rest of us down the river.
I’m more inclined to blame the progressive’s long march through the institutions, but if the stabbed-in-the-back idea is a boat-floater, fine. I think you overestimate China, which is currently experiencing multiple self-administered groin kicks, and lacks the systemic flexibility to respond wisely. It’s all about Xi now. The illusion of the Possible China is falling away.
You think your kids will listen to Chinese music? Watch Chinese TV shows? Play Wolf Warrior video games? Want to spend a vacation there? Can you name any nation that wants Chinese culture to replace its own?
That last part was me, not Bryan.
We’re already eating Chinese food. (And listening to KPop [banned in China?].)
But seriously, nobody wants another nation’s culture to replace their own.
I really wish somebody would tell me what is wrong with that David Stockman video I tell everybody to watch. Most Republicans hate him, but he seems pretty on target to me.
I posted 2-3 years ago attempting to make a relevant right of center agenda but nobody on the right wants to do stuff.
We don’t have to pay for neo-neo-nazism, when what we really want is engineers and scientists.
States could enforce anti-discrimination laws against woke corporations.
States could pass more aggressive voucher programs
We desperately need to reform copyright laws relative to the modern internet.
We did every single thing wrong in the face of automation and globalized trade. It’s way too late to respond to this with textbook libertarian free trade. It’s a very thorny topic and I think the answers are probably found in Steve Bannon interviews.
I loathe talking about the electorate like so many do, but this is an opportunity.

I’d say “Yes, they do.” At least among my peers.
We can see with our own eyes the denial of actual, physical reality that the trans/”gender fluidity” folks push on us. They demand we say the lie is actually the truth. I thin Henry has an excellent point though: most of us were brought up to be polite, so we refrain from pointing out that the man who says he’s a woman is actually a man, no matter how much mutilation he undergoes.
WILL THERE BE A QUIZ? lol
Launch of the Rainbow honours the achievements and contributions of McGill University’s 2SLGBTQIA+ students. The acronym 2SLGBTQIA+ refers to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Two-Spirit, Intersex, and Asexual peoples, as well as those who identify as pansexual, questioning, non-binary, and other gender and sexual minorities.
Recognizing the importance of intersectionality, the Subcommittee on Queer People is committed to an organizing process and event that foregrounds the voices and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ people who are most marginalized, both in society and within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, including 2SLGBTQIA+ people who are racialized, Indigenous, Black, trans, women, non-binary, and persons with disabilities.

We were the only major bottom up country on earth and that is what created the modern world. The top can’t run matters except in their own interest. They have to compromise with others at the top and they have to pretend about the rest. The naive liberal but sincere belief in human perfectibility drives it but it hasn’t ever existed and won’t. Our founders purposely choose to run matters from the bottom up and that created the modern world. Centralization is natural, it’s what happens and it will return the world to decline and while the Chinese are good at running matters top down, they too will rot and decline but not until they have helped us destroy ourselves. We can fix it but only by pulling out, as a minimum having a credible threat to do so, leaving Washington to run the rest.
I can name some Americans who think it’s an awesome idea.
Southern border disagrees.
This 10% believes in Conservatism, but not in Donald John Trump. I will vote for any Republican (other than Donald John Trump) over any Democrat, but any Democrat over Donald John Trump. The mounting evidence of Donald John Trump trying to steal the election and his efforts to pressure the DoJ, and local officials disqualify Donald John Trump.
The Republican Party and Conservatism is so much more than just one person.
It is now clear that Biden has been co-opted by the Progressives. He could have triangulated like Bill Clinton; he hasn’t. What a disappointment.
I’m guessing you’re not keeping up with the news. The garbage you cite — lies about “trying to steal the election” or “efforts to pressure the DOJ” has just been officially debunked.
Of course, we already knew this, but now it’s official.
You could pitch the Principles First platform here.
Also notice the prior discussion about this topic, what is conservatism?
Everything Moves Towards Communism All Of The Time™
@jameslileks You are attributing to me in a quote something I did not say. I have a real problem with that. I did not accuse anyone of “selling the rest of us down the river”. Can you actually respond to me, and not add a line? Is that not important to someone in the news business? Sure, it sounds like I am going with “Stabbed-in-the-back” with that line, but, I did not say that! .
I think that Conservatism, Inc. has been incompetent in stopping the progressive’s long march through the institutions. In no way is that “Stabbed-in-the-back”, but hey, whatever argument floats your boat and lets you be utterly and totally dismissive of my point, I guess all is fair. I get that you are a witty man, but for God’s sake, at least quote me correctly, not make stuff up that I did not say!
We can disagree on China. China is eating our lunch around the world. I don’t think that China culture is going to just roll over ours as China. What I see happening is the China authoritarianism has already won over the elites in this nation. We now live where conservatives are seen as more of a threat of the nation than actual terrorists. Very Chinese. I believe China is in the process of moving us from an American unipolar world to a bipolar one, with them at the other side. Right this moment we are a generation away from being able to produce vital things in this nation (like circuit boards) because we have followed a globalism path.
I am happy to disagree with you on something, but I’ll be damned if I take it lying down when you quote me and literally put words in my mouth.
That is the minority report of the Republicans. That is not an official debunking.
Not official. A different point of view.
The very same non-Trump Republicans you claimed a few comments back to support.
With all the money being printed and incomprehensible spending- I could get behind some type of arbitration on reducing/settling student loans where:
1) loan isn’t fully forgiven
2) that institution producing graduates with lots of debt and dismal job prospects have current and future Federal loans to those institutions reduced by that forgiven amount. Those departments or majors (women’s studies and black studies) with high default rates get penalized.
3) a portion of these funds and university/college endowments are available for retraining of borrower.
I could envision something similar with high school funding and HS drop outs or students eventually earning a GED.
BIG Education needs it’s wings clipped severely.
And Biden telling the DoJ/FBI/etc to go after parents who are unhappy with their school boards, nothing to worry about, right Gary? Because at least it’s not Trump.
It’s NOW clear? Some of us have known that for a long time. Where were YOU?
In other words, any Republican who tries to debunk the Democrats’ narrative about President Trump will be dismissed by you, because clinging to the Democrats’ anti-Trump narrative is the only thing that keeps you going.
Even Senate fixture Chuck Grassley (first elected in 1980) is now too Trumpy for Gary.
Which kind of makes you wonder . . . is Gary really a Republican?
Gary might like to say “it’s now become clear…” but a lot of us have known for a long time…
Yikes! A debt jubilee is a moral hazard and that makes it anti-conservative. It is like having working class folks bail out hedge funds, when they make bad bets.
I think the way to fix higher education is to only have government loans for education that the market demands. The BLS has data and most of the job demand does not require a 4year degree.
