Party of Government Threatens Government Shutdown
Things come to a head this week on Capitol Hill as Congress considers hard infrastructure, soft infrastructure, reconciliation, the debt ceiling, and the tantalizing prospect of a government shutdown. Speaking of which, how awesome would a government shutdown be when every governing institution in Washington is controlled by the Party of Government™? Naturally Democrats would blame such an outcome on the minority party – would that Republicans were so competent!
At this point I half expect Pelosi to simply wash her hands and advise her coalition to vote their conscience – if any.
In politics it’s said that you must pound your opponents’ weak tooth. The problem facing Democrats is that they seem to have developed a case of political gum disease. Republicans have so many issues to exploit, but which ones resonate in voters’ minds? The economy? Immigration? The fact that men can’t get pregnant? (If I were a GOP consultant advising Republican candidates trying to unseat Democrats in purple districts, I’d call on them to challenge their opponents to answer these three questions: Can men get pregnant? Can men breastfeed? Is “birthing people” a thing?) As for the economy, the only bright spot is that popcorn futures are soaring on the strength of BLM’s threat of violence in the face of vaccine mandates.
Regarding the coronavirus pandemic Biden insists that he’s following the science, but when it comes to booster shots it’s clear that the science is struggling to keep up with him.
Lockdown culture also presents political opportunities for republicans: make Democrats own it. Everyone knows Democrats would love nothing more than to impose Australia-style restrictions. Remind voters that there’s only one thing standing between them and that nation of poor saps who are currently under house arrest: the second amendment.
Think hard: when was the last time Democrats won a news cycle? Maybe it can all be chalked up to our vicious, anti-Democrat corporate media. Add to this the majority of Americans who believe Biden is in an “advanced state of mental decline” – according to a 1977 poll. Personally I think all this talk of Biden’s mental decline is vastly overstated once you consider his baseline.

Provoked by a recent interview of Boris Johnson by Savannah “Doink” Guthrie. She was desperate to get Boris to attack Trump. It was beyond pathetic.
It seems that the Democrats are pushing to see how far they can go before there is substantial pushback. It still looks pretty squishy from here.
Is winning a news cycle anything like winning a new bicycle? Bicycles and bicycle parts and accessories have been in very short supply since covid got underway. I might be interested in a new road bicycle with aluminum frame and carbon fork, but even if the bicycle itself is free there is a lot of expensive care and feeding that goes into one.
Now I have to look for this online, of course.
My wife works for the government. They are scrambling for the coming shutdown. The hate coming from the government workers for the Republicans is intense since this is their fault.
Why do they fear government shutdowns? They should be looking forward to the paid vacations at taxpayer expense. They should be thanking Republicans.
This is another way Democrats create a permanent voter base — create more government jobs.
Money is very important, but secondary. The main thing is that we owe them love, honor, and obedience.
While I think those of us who think the government needs to spend less and do less are fully in favor of a shut-down, remember what happened during the Obama years when there were shutdowns. Obama made sure that the average (non-government employed) American felt it deeply. Closed parks, put barriers around public installations, not only closed off Mount Rushmore, but prevented people from pulling over to the side of the road to view it from a distance. Heck, I’m surprised he didn’t hire Christo to cover it in pink fabric.
The worst, most prominent offense was when he blocked off the veterans’ memorials in Washington.
It was clearly retaliatory and vindictive.
And you know that Obama’s going to do the same thing this time.
Except, after 18 months of lock-downs and shut-downs, I think people are even less likely to put up with this nonsense. If Obama tries this again, look for even more civil disobedience.
They got civil disobedience last time. They tried to keep Honor Flight participants from seeing the WWII Monument away with bike racks chained together. These guys stormed the beaches of Normandy! If the Germans couldn’t stop them, what makes the Park Service think they can?
At the level my wife works they tend to work pay check to pay check. They will get paid but it is after the shutdown is over and they do not have the cushion in their finances so there is real hardship to many. Some will pick up side jobs, maybe lawn service or cleaning or whoring. But these things are sold hard in the government as caused by Republicans and is why the average government worker hates the GOP and actively works against the GOPs goals.
Yes, also at the lower levels the government actively hires many with disabilities and health problems. They have an elaborate rating systems and the more you have wrong with your or the more minority statuses you have or other government work gives you a better chance at a government post or promotion.
Honest work for a change.

Nothing against your wife personally, but as a self-employed person I often go months in-between my pay checks, and those are not paid vacations. I don’t have much sympathy for government workers.
